  1. Is it just me, or does ESPN and other critics discount what McCarney has done at North Texas. I remember McCarney mentioning in a interview that "there are right ways to create a winning program and a wrong way." I feel like McCarney could of won earlier in his career at North Texas if he had just taken players who could just play even if they didn't have the right attitude and cheapen the success of the program. Instead he cut those players that had bad attitudes and didn't want to put int the work. McCarney chooses players who are the best and who have their heart in the right place with the team and the game. Mean Green family. I feel like McCarney has set up North Texas to win for a long period of time. Yes, the seniors left... but McCarney said that those seniors left a legacy, ones that the younger guys will want to fulfill. He told us at the caravan that the boys have a chip on their shoulder that the program's success is just a "flash in the pan", and the boys are ready to prove them wrong. I hope we see that come SMU time.

  2. Most of you know that the UNT Alumni Association is expanding our involvement and we are making progress. 4. I love that we have great exposure, tv, etc. But by football season, I'm done with summer. Think there's something about evening games that make it a more fun atmosphere. And I'd even happy for a 7:30 pm kickoff to get the temp down a little bit. Don't mind some days games, bout I was really hoping for an evening game with SMU.

  6. I don't know. Whenever you play one of the military academies on a National Holiday or a military/armed forces related bowl, and you're not the service academy, you're automatically the "bad guy". Even if people don't have an opinion at that particular school/team, a non-affiliated fan is going to root for the academy.

  7. 2015 DT per his hudl 6'1, 300 lbs, 5.04 40, 4.60 shuttle, 31" vertical, 415 LB bench, 775 LB squat. Not sure what's legal to link or not so I'll let you smart people do that. Kid is a monster!

  8. 6'2" 192 lb safety from Skyline. We have offered. Also holds offers from UCLA, Wisconsin, Washington State, and Memphis. Surprising that we offered him almost 3 months after we offered 3 of his teammates. His body fits the mold of the outside linebackers we've been recruiting lately. Probably a safety in college, but something to consider. 10. I have a challenge for you all. You've probably seen the Keep Austin Weird shirts: You've probably also seen the Keep Denton Beard shirts: As a showing of solidarity and focus on beating UT on August 30th, I challenge you to put down that razor and let those beards grow until game day. I mean really, who has time for shaving when our focus should be preparing for the kickoff to the 2014 season. I propose we get our beards started no later than May 30th. 3 months of growth should look pretty dang good. When people ask you about your change in facial follicles, use the opportunity to spread the word of your support for the Mean Green. Tell your friends, alert the media, spread the word... Let's win the challenge of Beard vs. Weird. Note: Ladies, please show your support by pushing the men in your life to participate in this challenge. Don't change your own grooming habits...really not needed.

  13. macro voting = cheating? maybe manually revoting = cheating? Not on this one. The DMN needs to figure out that you can't hold it against a fanbase for repeat votes if you're going to include a "return to poll" link that resets the selection. Aren't these types of submissions/polls a coding 101 subject in school?

  15. Kinda a jerk?!?!? I gotta step up my game. Need more murmurs of "there's that A-hole" when I show up at UNT events. Always puts a smile on my face. And you gotta lot of room to talk. California hippy. On a serious note, it is funny how many people take the Internet so seriously. I mean, I am a French model, after all.

  19. Just focusing on the lost starters is not a good indication of how a team will be. Other teams lose starters also. Rice loses just as much talent, so why aren't they considered rebuilding? What if you are returning starters, from a horrible team? UNT returned starters last year, but that didn't help preseason expectations because the team was sorry. Bringing back EXPERIENCE for the starters that are lost is the key. Why are some acting like we are replacing the starters with unknowns or ones who have never played. Jimm has experience. Byrd is a starter lost, but that position is not an issue. Kidsey is listed as a starter. He has some experience. We lost Trice, but Warner has played before and was predicted to play a lot before his injury. That is experience coming in. Lincoln has experience and actually started in the past. A player to watch is Blake Bean. I was told he could play. A minor injury probably prevented him from starting, but looks to get a lot of playing time for us. He started for Buffalo, so he has D1 experience on a winning bowl eligible team.

  21. As for the potential comparison to La Tech's disappointing season following 2012, the biggest difference in the two programs is our coaching staff and system are intact….they lost a boat load of players and then brought in a new coach, staff and system. that's a tough combo... I feel good about the system and buy in that is in place here.

  31. Just to add to this, I DID NOT play football at UNT, just a proud alumni, but however I am making the jump from tiny Honey Grove HS to coaching varsity safeties at Harker Heights HS near Killeen, TX. As always, I will do my best to direct studs to the great UNT.

  32. In 2013, in a seson where both Rice and UH were bowl participants (i.e., they were both good), the annual Bayou Bucket game was played at Reliant Stadium, a place that fits over 70,000 people, and resides in the SAME TOWN as both universities. The ANNOUNCED CROWD was less than half of capacity, just over 34k. Keep in mind, these two teams play each other every year, had been in the same conference for many, many years, and share the same coverage from the local press, unlike UNT and SMU in every single way. Yet this idiot thinks its says A LOT about both programs (SMU and UNT) that it might not be a sellout at our place. I'd venture a wager that a game at the Cotton Bowl between SMU and UNT would fill the damn place more than half and it seats 92k. I know it was a troll post--and a bad one, since only I have responded to it, but my goodness, even after a long layoff from posting, you still suck at this...

  33. I'm glad to see Chris Orr getting other offers. If he decides on UNT it won't be because it was the only offer he had. It would also have the connotation that the offer was given because of his brother. Chris is certainly capable in his own right. The Wisconsin offer punctuates the fact that he is FBS material.

  36. USA Today has them ranked in their preseason poll. Should beating a team that was in the preseason rankings--but was never ranked once after they actually started playing games--count as beating a ranked opponent?

  45. Several observations: How are we still adding players? I know the number of schollies available change daily under the Benford regime. Could someone who cares much more than I tell us where we currently stand? Hurry, before it changes again. Benford still taking about improving rebounding. Too bad he never actually does it. Bring the phrase "talk is cheap" to a whole new level. No talk about improving defense. Guess we have given up there. Noticed Benford talked about the 6' 7" JUCO already having a well rounded game. Good thing, cause no future development will happen at UNT. At least Benford recognizes one of his many weaknesses. Progress?
