  1. All of this arguing could of been avoided if only the kid workings at Kinko's was put in charge of mailing out tickets instead of the Athletic Department.

  2. An oft repeated phrase for many an experience for Mean Green fans. Maybe we could incorporate this into some type of cheer or chant.

  6. I'll try to keep this in mind when I am standing in the UNT Will Call line New Year's Day morning watching an 80 year old lady fumble through various shoe boxes full of tickets that she set-up on a folding card table in some dark corner of the Cotton Bowl. I'm sure there will be a cozy County fair feeling to the whole thing.

  8. I'm in the same boat, I was told on 12/17 when I bought them that they would be mailed to me via the USPS. When I called them yesterday to find out what happened they told me I would now have to pick them up. So now I can either spend an hour and a half driving to Denton/Omni and back or skip tailgating to stand in the Will Call line on game day. All of this could of been avoided with a 47 cent stamp if the ticket office would of mailed them like they told me they would. I would email RV and I'm sure he will make it right for you. P.S. I really thought our program was far enough along where we could handle something as simple as mailing tickets. I understand why everyone wants to sweep this under the rug or point fingers as someone else (FedEx), but this program is not going to move forward unless we hold people accountable for incompetence.

  9. There is no joy in Mudville! I just called the ticket office and my only option is to go to Will Call on game day to get my tickets (apparently along with hundreds of others). I'm sorry but this is total crap. I was supposed to have paid an additional $10 for Fed Ex delivery but that option was never explained to me. I mistakenly thought that the extra $5 per ticket was for that purpose but it turns out that's just a processing fee. They also said that they couldn't use USPS because the university is technically closed. My health makes it a real chore to do this anyway but I'll try to get one of my younger family members to stand in line for us. If that should fail I won't be there. I would've probably gotten better service through any of the discount tickets. Sorry, for the rant. I probably shouldn't be posting while I'm still pissed. Just wanted to prepare any others that have this predicament. You may not come away pleased.

  11. this is about the third time over the last week or so where you've decided to make reference of the fact that I don't attend games...you know, because I live, according to google maps, 1,641 miles from the UNT campus and I recently had to let my Cesena pilot go (good help is hard to find, no?). the implication, at least that I'm taking (feel free to correct if I'm wrong), is that my distance in some way invalidates my opinion that UNT made a poor hire as men's basketball coach and rather than admitting their mistake, biting the bullet as many athletic departments will do, this schedule was constructed in concert between head coach and AD to put 7-5 lipstick on this dirty, smelly pig and pass it off to those not paying attention as something other than swine. Does my distance in fact lessen or even invalidate my opinion? Because, before you say yes, let me remind you that I could with a bit of effort crawl through the archives of this site and find plenty of examples of you supporting, validating and dare I say championing my opinion when I praised our program, urged patience and pragmatism and support and defended JJ against often far injust criticism. All things I did from 1,641 miles away while not attending games. I like you Mark...I do...I think you're a noble man and your heart is certainly in the right place. But the references you continue to make remind me more of those echoed by some on here for whom I do not share a similar respect. You're better than that...at least I want to think so. Now...allow me to leave you with an anecdote to help you gain an understanding of where many of us are coming from. There's this restaurant in New Haven...let's call it Eli's...now I started going to Eli's when I first moved up here and it quickly became my favorite restaurant in town. It wasn't high-end food...no James Beard awards or Michelin Stars...but it was quality, consistant food in an atmosphere I was comfortable. I got to know the owners and might even call them friends...I got to know the staff and the chef and came to really appreciate the work that went into their restaurant. About...oh...a year and a half ago, though, the head chef left to start his own restaurant in another state...everyone was supportive of the move because we know just how hard he worked to help build Eli's and how owning his own place was his dream. After that chaef left, they of course hired a new guy...and I of course continued to dine there, though I started to notice a few issues...minor at first...I'd order sweet potato fries and end up with a side-salad...I'd order a rare steak and end up with well-done...minor annoyances, but still note-worthy. Then one time about a year ago, I ordered a simple hamburger. It came out as two patties of meat surrounding one piece of bread. The next time, I ordered a chicken caesar. I was served hunks of play-do over diced, green-crayoned styrofoam. My next trip I saw "un-cooked egg and poultry smoothie" on the specials board and walked right out. It became readily apparent to me that the person my friends hired as chef really had zero concept of food, let alone any idea of how to cook. I explained my issues with the owners, but all they did was urge patience and my continued patronage. But I, and anybody with half-a palette, wanted change. Now how should I affect change, Mark? Should I continue to dine or is my and other's non-patronage the proper message?

  13. Gee, I wonder if competency in the athletic department has any bearing on people's willingness to buy season tickets or attend games. Nah, that's just crazy.
    4 points
  14. Nope...what would make Coach Mac more likely to leave would be the continuance of empty seats at Apogee for home games. There is a pretty easy solution to that situation. But, like I've said before...everyone needs to learn how to win.

  17. Please look away and pretend everything is OK. If anyone else mentions this incident immediately challenge their loyalty to the program. If that doesn't work, blame FedEx. It is not the Athletic Department's fault, they are trying as hard as they can. Just be happy that we are going to a bowl game, even though you may not be able to watch the bowl game because you will not be able to get your tickets in time due to the ticket shell game.

  18. Just. Wow. Maybe it's a challenge marketing strategy. You know, where you make it a challenge for people to pick up a product for which they have already paid? I here it was all the rage in the old USSR. Mind boggling at a whole new level.

  20. After multiple phone tries and getting "the office is closed for the Christmas holidays" recording over and over, I finally got through to my second human today. This gal was very nice and found my tickets in the will call pile. Will call is easy to deal with. The second gal was much better than the Jason (or something that started with a J) who said he would call me back "right away" but didn't actually do anything. If you can't look up my tickets and don't plan on calling me back, just tell me you are too busy and ask me to call back later. Yes, I will be annoyed but less annoyed than being lied to. I'm hoping Coleman will have some sort of explanation for why the FexEx service that was promised didn't work but right now fixing the problem is more important. I will write him after the bowl game and ask what happened and what's being done to fix it for the future. It's sad that the University has taken what should have been a positive feeling and instead angered a number of it's most loyal fans. I don't have club seats but I have been a $1000 a year Mean Green club member since 95 or 96. Mistakes happen and that's understandable but how you try - and in this case IF you try - to correct them shows the quality of service.

  21. I picked up on Coach Mac's annoyance with our lack of attendance a long time ago. And he is right to be annoyed.Especially since he's done such a great job of changing the culture of the football team. It's (lack of attendance) the core issue that caused us to lose Coach Mac's mentor some 30+ years ago. Kram1 says our fan base needs to learn how to be winners. I agree with that, but that "learning" that Kram1 talks about doesn't happen in a vacuum. People learn either from reactive situations like getting a speeding ticket, or getting you ass whipped by showing up in a biker bar dressed like a preppie. OR they learn in a proactive way like at Texas A&M with their fish camp and subsequent yell practices etc. But for someone to learn in the proactive way, they need to have it presented to them over, and over, and over etc etc. At A&M, they teach their fan base in their pro-active way by having a plan and by having someone to show up consistently to teach/reinforce this plan....aka their traditions. And back to Mac appearing to be annoyed with our lack of attendance. What I would say to him about that is "well, it's a good thing that we didn't have a sell-out, with lots of first time fans, for the UTSA game".

  22. I'm afraid this is what's going to end up costing us Coach Mac. Not this specific incident, but the overall incompetence. There's likely more things that we never see that will begin to frustrate him until he finally has enough. I hope this isn't the case, but usually where there's smoke, there's fire.

  25. I became concerned about our tickets after I read some of the comments that had been posted earlier in the day. I called the ticket office and spoke to a fellow there. He apologized for the problem and is sending them to me overnight by Fed Ex. There will be no cost to me for that shipment. On a side note, I asked if I needed to be present to sign for the tickets when they were delivered. My wife's family is having their Christmas event tomorrow afternoon and I was hoping for a positive response so that I would have an excuse to skip that wonderful affair. Unfortunately, the answer was that I did not have to be present for the tickets to be left at our house. Oh, well.......it was worth a shot.

  29. Here is the information from meangreensports.com: Schedule, Locations For Heart of Dallas Bowl Ticket Will-Call Set Tickets Purchased Through North Texas Available At Apogee Until Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. Dec. 27, 2013 Here's the schedule and locations to pickup tickets to the New Year's Day Heart of Dallas Bowl purchased through the North Texas Athletic Ticket Office: • Tickets will be available for pickup at the Apogee Stadium will-call window until 3 p.m. on Monday, December 30. • Will-call will then move to the lobby of the Omni Hotel in Dallas, and will be open Monday, Dec. 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. • On Jan. 1, any remaining tickets purchased through North Texas will be available at the Cotton Bowl will-call window at Gate E. This article was posted on the official website yesterday, however, when I contacted the ticket office about an hour ago I was told that the tickets WOULD NOT be available at the Omni on Monday and the will-call window will be at Gate J. I don't understand why this is such a problem for the Athletic department to get right.

  30. In today's Dallas Morning News all eight people (Chuck Carlton, Tim Cowlishaw, Corby Davidson, Kate Hairpoulos, Emily Jones, Bill Nichols, Kevin Sherrington and Brett Vito) picked North Texas to win straight up. Seven of the eight picked us to win against the 6.5 point spread. The only one to pick UNLV against the spread was our own Brett Vito.

  31. Guys,I had same problem. However,my tickets were picked up by a friend who was getting his as well. Lets just chalk this up to "ticket office overload". Rick is doing his best to clean up the situation, and I am sure we won't have this issue in the future.

  36. Seems everyone needs to learn how to win....teams, fans and administration. Hopefully, this is the first of a long bowl run. Very few folks in the administration have ever experienced a bowl game and the fewer days between selection and games than in the past. Plus, the Mean Green fan base seems to be turning out in greater numbers than what our season experience would have indicated. Then, you add the Fed Ex fiasco.... Learning experiences all around for all concerned. Pretty darn bumpy road this time...let's hope next year brings another bowl and that the learning curve for everyone is not a steep one. Winning brings new challenges...at least they are associated with increased demand and increased support. The ticketing process seems to have broken down a good bit, but also seems folks are doing what they can to try to alleviate the situation. Looks like "all hands on deck" at the ticket office. Hopefully next year's bowl run-up for the Mean Green will go much more smoothly for all concerned. Learning to win is not easy it seems...

  38. I am attending the New Year's event at the Tower Club and would be happy to pick up your tickets for you...could meet you at the pre-game tailgate to hand them over. Just PM me with your cell and I'll get you mine as well....we can let the AD know that I am picking up for you. Would this help at all? Happy to help...goes for anyone else as well who might have problems with any of the options presented. Mean Green Nation can work this out together. Let me know GrayEagle...or anyone else needing help. I will also be in town (Denton) on the 31st and could run by the ticket office for you...if we could somehow let them know I am picking up for you...

  39. And....#3 Ohio State takes on the power of La-Monroe and pulls out a 71-31 win! And...#19 North Carolina "escapes" Northern Ky 75-60. I guess these guys are just trying to pad their RPI's by taking on these powerhouse teams? I'll bet all their fans stayed away from these marquee games so they could support the players. Edit: Oh, I forgot the :-) at the end. That makes it just a joke and everyone should just see it as funny, right? HeHe!

I always thought Colt was one our our more interesting players and his family was wonderful people to have too. From barefoot skiing champion in high school to Mean Green linebacker, it's no surprise he's also an excellent bow hunter and had a good bow season this year. Nice job Colt. Rick

  43. One does not have to travel to the actual location of a game to consume it, although CMJ has done that before in Hot Springs, and I believe another west coast tourney location. Food, cannot be piped through the airwaves or series of tiny tubes called the internets. This is a fan that probably keeps up with the team more than most that live in the area and attend games. His opinion is credible. I agree that constantly bemoaning the sad fact that we aren't making much progress doesn't do much good here. I have only attended half the games to this point. Unfortunately, one of those was the SFA game. There was a time when I wouldn't have missed one. It isn't fun. But, my money for season tickets is still green, and they still took it. I am of the mind that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say it at all. And it's what I practice, both in reference to the program/team and to others on this board. But, I don't know if that necessarily works as a good business model to run a website on, or even a way to stay connected and invested in a program/team. If I didn't care at all, it would be very difficult for me to notice if things have turned around. It's amazing to me that although some here may complain about the current state, they keep donating and checking in and coming back for more, when they know they are only going to get hamburgers with doo doo as the meat served up by some very good waiters who are hopefully getting more than their share of the profits and tips.
