I was in there a few months ago and it looked like it was going out of business. Crap everywhere, roof was falling apart, old, crummy, nasty, etc. I guess the new ownership has completely remodeled it, because it's bright, new, clean, and not cluttered at all. Also, they have amazing and cheap apparel. Grabbed these two beauties: The Scrappy one has that on the back. It's really awesome, I'm impressed with how clean and new it is. Also, the hours aren't useless like they used to be. Thought many who on here thought it'd be closing would like to know it's not! Also, only UNT stuff...with a teeny bit of TWU.4 points

Love to see that, but based on recent history, I am not ready to think us better than Tulsa, Rice and even LaTech until we beat them on the field. First things first though, beat Tulane.4 points

My kid refuses to set foot in a Hooters. She says, and I quote, "They're missing two things -- a brass pole and good food." What are the odds Eastside shows the game? Incidentally, speaking of places who used to host watching parties, then started to patently refuse, I drove by what appears to be the boarded up, no signs shell of a building that used to be Fox and Hound in Lewisville yesterday. I laughed and laughed.3 points

Don't get me wrong, they P5 still want their Washington General around, but some conferecnes as a whole may not even be able to meet the requirements of full cost of scholarship and stipend for all athletes and deal with the increase in staff budgets sue to changes in recruiting.. This has and always will be about $$. I ma not sure that the MAC or SunBelt can afford the changes as a whole (outside of a few specific teams) there are several private schools that are already teetering on the edge and their scholarship costs make the accounting in thier AD much more difficult. This is the exact reason why I was so much in agreement that UNT had to make the CUSA move when they did and I feel even more strongly about it after seeing the CUSA vote as a conference to accept any potential full cost of tuition changes. At some point you got to spend money to make money and the real way to drive the profile of a burgeoning university is through media exposure. Athletics is one of the few ways to regularly get positive press. Time to accept the fact that if you want it, you got to pay for it.3 points

True, but I think that they will likely keep the other conferences around. They have proven reluctant to kick the crap out of each other for a full 12 game slate. I think that they want to have some games against teams that they view as lower in order to keep their win totals up and their fans happy.3 points

I hope we do get into the Beef O' Brady Bowl. Having already played in the Salad Bowl (1948), we would only need a Potato Bowl to make a complete meal.3 points

A big part of me really wants to see North Texas play in the Cotton Bowl this season. First thing first, lets take care of Tulane.3 points

Ultimately we're all in the same hole. Whether we're Texas State, UNT, SMU - we're all Texans on the outside looking in. I've got no problem talking about other Texas teams on our board - we don't need to be a-holes who are only paying attention to our team. The only way we get anywhere is by working together - UNT and SMU have figured that out (conferences aside - SMU would have no boosters left if they allowed us in the some conference). As far as Mac vs. Fran - Texas State was willing to take a BIG risk hiring him. We already had problems on the horizon with the NCAA (grad rates, etc.) which Mac has done an AWESOME job addressing. And as far as RV - Four conference championships, two dances, baseball and a new stadium makes him the most successful AD in our history.Sometimes even the greatest have down years, but RV has taken us quite far from where we were.3 points

Oh yeah positivity was at an all time high at the end of the Bush regime as we were losing 700,000 jobs a month and almost every bank on the US was having major problems. Let's not forget about the Iraq war lie. The stock market crash, record high deficits, public distrust. Man if we could only get back to those great times in our contry's history.3 points

UNT comes off of a bye week healthy and hungry after the comeback win VS Ball St and "hanging with" Georgia for 2 1/2 quarters. The Mean Green defense continues to swarm, hitting hard & forcing turnovers. They'll make their kicker look like a Lou Groza winner... which he is, kicking long FG's due to somewhat-effective-but-stalled drives. Offense needs to move the ball effectively using that up-tempo, balanced attack that seems to be working so well. Run game needs to improve. I think this 4-2-5 defense can be run upon. I just don't think Tulane has seen a defense like ours yet. The best one they've seen is Syracuse, which held them to 17. North Texas: 31 Tulane: 16 Statement game. Lots of celebrating in the quarter for the lucky Mean Green fans who make the trip.2 points

Jacob was substitute teaching Social Studies and Political Science at my daughter's Jr High in Flower Mound this past week. He wore his North Texas Basketball shirt on Friday and reminded all the students to try to make a few games this season. The students really liked him.2 points

Don't discount what your own coach is doing. Fran's system is VERY one deminsional unless you have all the right pieces... and if you don't, he still runs it anyways (see USM, PVA&M, and Tech) Fortunately, I think we've found our own Johnny Manziel that fits perfectly in our system - he's a dual threat 3A state champ out of Stephenville who has a beautiful throw, yet is very quick on his feet. Once Fran burned his redshirt on Sat, the whole atmosphere changed. The offense "got it" and we dominated most of the game. Btw - really enjoyed watching y'all agaisnt Georgia... pulling for you the rest of the way!2 points

At some point we need to start counting on the success of North Texas being what makes or breaks us, not hoping we “suck less” than the other Texas schools.2 points

Hmmm....Texas State is 3-1 They beat Southern Miss 22-15 Southern Miss lost their other 3 games 56-13, 24-3, & 60-7. They beat Prarie View A & M 28-3. Prarie Veiw A&M ............well they beat Prarie View A&M They lost to Texas Tech 33-7. Tech was ranked 25th at the time. They beat Wyoming 42-21. A good home win. After reading some of the posts, I'm surprised they're not ranked. (JOKE) Apples to apples: Fran went 4-8 last year with #20 L Tech the only ranked team they played. (lost to UTSA) Mac also went 4-8 playing #3 LSU & #15 K St. We played 6 bowl teams plus an 8-4 M.Tenn.(5 of the 7 on the road) The grass always seems greener over someone else's septic tank. Coach Fran is a good coach. So is Coach Mac.2 points

How about working within the current guidelines and making changes for next year? Alumni Association members can enter the pavilion and be served. Limit it to two beers if needed for liability purposes. Open up the side doors, let folks pull up a lawn chair and a cooler, sit outside, have speakers set up to broadcast the show to those, have a roving reporter solicit questions from the unwashed masses in the lawnchairs, etc... Alumni association members would get a couple of beers, cool fans, restrooms and television to sweeten the pot for going in to pavilion. This could also be used as a recruitment tool for the association.2 points

I am sure if it involves alcohol immediately prior to people getting in their cars will be a tough sell. That's why beer sales stop in the 7th inning/3rd quarter. But still an idea worth pursuing. Even if alcohol is not involved.2 points

10/5/13 will determine the future of this program,. If we win, 10/12 will determine the fate of this program. If we win, then 10/19 will determine the fate of this program. Don't set yourself up for a huge letdown. There is every possibility that we start conference 0-2, bad that would be disastrous for so many reasons. Just freakin win in 6 days and worry about the rest when the time comes.2 points

For one Obama has been in office for 5 years, not 8. Actually, America has gone from losing 700,000 jobs a month to gaining about 200,000 per month. The Iraq war? You think Obama started that war really? The stock market? From 7,000 to over 15,000. Deficits cut by hundreds of billions. But keep watching Faux News.2 points

Ok.... I know this isn't the board to post that we're going.... but I am so stinking excited for this game and getting our first conference WIN. We have never been to New Orleans, so I'm kind of unsure on how this is going to go.... for me. But- in any case, my husband reminded me this evening that I may be the drunk girl at the game with #19 on my back & screaming "Joe Montana sucks!" We shall see.... For all you doubters out there.... I have never seen a group of players that want to kill this game more than our mean green right now! Some of you forget that we have also had 2 weeks to prepare for this. See you on Bourbon st! :-) Edit: I should probably add that hookers have been spotted near our hotel (according to recent reviews that I happened to miss).... if you do not see me... consider this my S.O.S..... And no... we don't like hookers.1 point

Am trying to avoid this topic in a public forum. You and I discussed this in private before a recent Coach Mac Show. Alcohol would be a challenge for a number of reasons, but will be discussed in the overall discussion of this idea...and, yes, we will be discussing it with the appropriate people. In reality...doubtful that it would happen this season, but I never like to say or work on a never proposition, so it will be in the discussions. The cost of a keg is hardly an issue, but thanks for the offer.1 point

Did all you good folks read "Cliff Notes" on every required reading novel to keep from reading more than a paragraph (or two or three) from all those great, uh, classics? Brevity seems to make some of your's pant legs go crazy; you know, like, uh, Chris Matthews? Do you only go to churches where the minister only has 10 minute sermons, too? (I am being tongue in cheek for those who don't know it).1 point

Yep...it is always "they" could do this or that. That, my hard working friend, is one of the biggest challenges we have at UNT these days...too many people suggest things others should do and then just sit back and complain that nothing happens while sitting back and waiting for "they" to do it. "They" does get tired of all the talk with so little support. Takes a dedicated "they"...again, as you very well know. Like Churchill said...never have so many owed so much to so few......."they" are way too few at UNT these days. You know exactly what I mean. But, yes...pictures on the big board would be great. I am happy to work to get this contest on if anyone is willing to help. Cannot be a one person show. Could be way fun and could be an annual event if folks like it and participate....just a thought.1 point
