  1. Baylor? That's in Waco right...that place where you go pee between Dallas and Austin.

  3. Since we had thread discussing some random Baylor fan's lack of knowledge I thought I just start one describing my experience wearing Mean Green gear while in the Chicago area this weekend. I sit at O'Hare waiting for our return flight with a bit Mean Green grin on my face. I had no less than six people come up to me in Chicago and in Indiana ( went there for a family function this weekend) and want to talk Mean Green. Two grads and three folks who knew of Coach Mac and wanted to talk a bit of UNT football. Then there was the guy who saw the shirt and thought "North Texas" was out near El Paso! Hey, can't win 'em all. I can tell you that it NEVER fails...whether in the US somewhere or as recently as in Costa Rica, when I wear my Mean Green Gear (which is pretty darn often on my trips) I always have people come up and want to talk UNT...no, not always athletics, but UNT. Really makes me proud of being a member of the Mean Green Nation. BTW ... One guy was right across the street from DePaul University in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago (yes, I was in that area going to The Wieners Circle Hot Dogs...if you know about this place, you know...if not goggle it you will laugh your rear off...unless folks having some fun...yes fun...with "racial" things and salty language...the dogs are great...the routine is unique to say the least). The guy was doing grad work at DePaul after undergrad at UNT. Wonder if I had been wearing Baylor stuff if anyone would have cared? Doubtful!

  5. Connectivity and signal strength? Blah. The only reason you should need your device at a game is if you want to snap a picture. Maybe to let friends know where you're sitting, unless you're a blogger or journalist. Other than that...concerts, meetings, classes, work, football games...why do you need to Facebook and Twitter every second? "I was the first to post it online." Great. You're missing half of your life so you can let your friends know something that everyone else will say in 8 seconds anyway. Maybe if you were living that other half of your life instead of playing around on your phone, you'd experience more interesting things and not be another phone clone. News flash: most of what you're checking out is just as uninteresting as what you're posting. So you're missing out on your life for the opportunity to be constantly connected to basically NOTHING. I'm not opposed to social networking and technological advancement, but if it's a priority over experiencing what's really happening, your individual experiences in life will be greatly diminished.

  6. I gotta say a word about Kokjohn Long Snapping lessons. Yesterday afternoon my F5 took a long snapping lesson from Troy Kokjohn and we had a blast. Troy and his dad Kevin are the consummate professionals. They are extremely accommodating and the lessons are very affordable. They video tape you before and after each part of the progression, go over them with you and then send those video's to you for future reference. Most interesting to me was the fact that since Troy has seen it all he tells you different aspects of the skill learned only through battle that you would never think of. This was very cool to see and hear about. We had a great time and recommend Troy to anyone interested in learning one of the most interesting and challenging parts of the game from the best. Troy's phone number is:972-824-3001. His email is: troy.m.kokjohn@gmail.com And his website is: LongSnapperLessons.com Rick

  9. If we don't run a play action pass on the first offensive play from scrimmage against Idaho, I may just retreat to the bar in the club level and not check back in until halftime. Set the F'n tone for the season.

  10. Don't run to the same spot even after a long gain, unless it's infrequently enough for noone to expect it. Or, get them to expect it, then play action pass.

  11. Just be sure whoever goes to the Square that you skip the antique place or whatever it's called that's on the East side. They will literally scream at you for "soliciting" and threaten to call the cops. I made it a point to tell them it was a gift from UNT and they continued yelling. I also made it a point to spread the word that they were not only not UNT friendly but also complete a-holes. If somebody does try again and gets the same results be sure to let others know again. If you don't want a poster that's fine but if you're going to act all crazy any time anybody from UNT comes in, then maybe we should make sure everybody connected to UNT knows to avoid your rathole since you're obviously too good for the University that pretty much made the whole town what it is.

  13. My folks sent my brother and I money for expenses, but we had to pay tuition. I think we appreciated it more, though I am not gonna say I didn't have a semester or two where I goofed off a lot (girlfriends will do that to you!). I guess that comes with the territory of college life, even if it is your money on the line. I do think at the end of the day I appreciated college more because I paid for it though.

  15. I'm not the one that feels like my school is too good to start a rivalry with certain Texas schools, so I don't even see what your point is with this. Besides UTEP fans are actually receptive to a rivalry with us...same UT system, colors, hand sign and similar demographics. You can't say the same for you and Rice.

  16. Yeah, I agree that academics and baseball teams are perfect determinants of football rivalries.

  17. While this is a sad sight to see... imagine watching this and there's no Apogee across the street. I'm negative about a lot of things regarding our FB situation and hate the series of events (and people) that have hampered our progress over the years, but I am so grateful to not be watching this with our FB suffering the same fate as UTA. That would make watching this almost unbearable.

  19. Your now, some of these replies remind me of a certain Tom Cruise movie line...You want the truth...you can't stand the truth! Some of you folks would not know the truth ...or believe anything that is not of a negative nature...if hit hit you square in the nose. Who ever the FOOL was that gave me -1for letting folks know the story is so typical of the many so-called UNT fans these days..always looking for the negative. Too bad...sad and generally negative people always want something to be negative for some reason and it always seems to be the same folks. Every notice that? The info I posted is EXACTLY how it happened. Believe it...don't believe it, your call...it's just the facts. Heck, why should that matter to the "usual suspects"? Ha!

  20. No surprise here...the surprise would be if the NCAA would not have investigated something while Little Johnny Football was still technically in college. Hey..he's not doing anything that the rest of us did not do in college, right? Don't know about you but I never even thought about selling my autograph? Ha! You think maybe that was because I got no closer to the playing field (in athletics) :-) than the stands! This kid is heading for trouble and it has as much to do with his family as his talent and associated overblown sense of entitlement.

  21. Yeah, because your fans have been gracious hosts. lol You attack my school, I'll attack back. I had no problem with UNT fans when I initially signed up until I saw numerous fans claim theyre "too good" to have UTSA as a rival. Nothing I've said so far is false, you guys may think you're relevant and important in the state of Texas (lol at comparing yourself to the Steelers) but nobody else does. Unfortunately the truth hurts and that's why I'm getting all this backlash.

  23. Gota agree with Screaming Eagle. If it is your money on the line you are going to take it more seriously. I saw that happen at a specialization school. I paid out of my pocket to go there. I worked my butt off and studied hard in a difficult place (Ft. Lauderdale, FL during Spring Break). I didn't have the money to go to the beach every weekend. End result - I finished high in the class and got my certificate. There were several people there on someone else's money (government or parents mostly) who failed to get the certificate. UNTFan23 I congratulate you on your accomplishments. You got the degree even though someone else paid the tuition. The draw back to working while going to school is you have to balance study and work. I would like to see if there is a study to see what the trend is.

  24. Thus far ya'll are on par with Collin County Community College. So chill out. FYI, my buddies who are UTEP grads aren't receptive to anything with you. Stop coming here all butt hurt as well. You have a new program. People are going to bust your balls. If you want to talk football, cool. If you want to talk about your upcoming national showdown with Alabama. I am sure there is a thread for that on ya'lls board.

  25. I distinctly remember telling you to shut your piehole. No more D&D for you. Seriously though, did a group of North Texas grads pull a train on your wife/sister (same person) to cause such resentment?

  26. Hey UTSA is a conference mate, therefore a rival. Wait till you actually win a few fb division games before you buy those national championship tickets.
    1 point
  27. 1) Damn good timing since the conferences you named had to replace members moving up a level. Plus...you're in SA. Growing fast, no competition, TV money... 2) Did I mention you're in San Antonio? 3) Michigan football was around for a long time before losing to Appy State. Regardless of this game (and let's face it, the last decade) we do have a decent history. Not Michigan level history, and not recent, but we know we're the poster child for "decent mid major who's still a mid major". But again, we do have history, whereas UTSA is a fairly unknown variable, having not fully competed at this level at any point in its brief period of competition. As to the post showing our recent record, yup, we know. But go back a bit farther and it gets better. Farther than that, and it starts to get really good. But there's no real comparison here, as there isn't relevant data on UTSA until the season that is about to start. As you pointed out that UTSA has a decent business program, let me use a business model approach here, as if selling the idea to potential shareholders. "We feel that with the same resources and ability conveyed against low-level competition, a few months of fine-tuning with a bit of new blood should make us instantly competitive at a higher level." It's a really ballsy claim, and some people may go for it, but it's also one that runs the risk of sounding over-confident. But you may want to get used to something North Texans hear a lot of...maybe, or maybe not, we'll see. Personally, I wouldn't mind if all of our geographically close competition provided us with a whole slate of in-state and adjacent-state rivals. To have La Tech, Rice, UTSA, and UTEP all become exciting, well-attended games wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Excitement, attendance, media coverage, season ticket sales, etc. are all part of the same gestalt and building a conference where we all benefit from that is precisely the reason we have conferences in the first place, n'est-ce pas?

  30. We've got a deal working with Taco Bell that is going to make fried chicken go completely out of style in the area of sports promotions. Then we have the Tums people who are going to work with us, too, in what will be one heckuva' winning combination of a deal for all our fans. (The Porta' Potty folks have been talking to our AD, too, just in case there is a dire need....know what I mean, Vern)? Bring on those Road Runners! GMG!

  31. He's not the only one. It's just that there's little substantive conversion to comment on. There's a lot of bickering back and forth about things that can't be proven yet. Mildly entertaining though. Looking forward to making this game.

  33. A very serious case of the high-lighted in bold statement of yours could have been made toward TCU their last 25 years in the SWC. In fact, many of your older alums had all but given it all up. The day the SWC imploded was a very, very sad day in Fort Worth because the Big 12 was basically telling TCU...."why don't yall go join about 5 conferences in less than 10 years and we might consider you then. So I guess as far as North Texas is concerned all the things you seem to want to happen to our athletic program are just not going to happen at all. 36,000 plus students (which will become over 40K before you can say "rivet") and over 200,000 UNT alums in DFW are going to be as patient about all this as I presume TCU was during their long SWC journey of one losing decade after another. You should have really seen all those empty seats at ACS when UT, TAMU, TTech and Baylor weren't bringing their traveling fans to FW to help TCU pad what would otherwise be pretty pathetic attendance numbers for a Big Time SWC school. Why is this all so important to you anyhow to come over here so much and say (basically) the same ol' things? GMG!

  34. I thought the most interesting and funny part was how many alumni do not even know there is a new stajium.......there were a ton of people saying things like "are they going to have this done before the season starts" or "I am sure whatever replaces this will jack up cost" or "why are they tearing down the stajium are they building a new one" or "why is it being demolished" there are dozens of people that have no clue there is even a new stajium or that Fouts is not still in use....THAT is a disconnect......from the universe no one is scared of the "sleeping giant" and even when north Texas was on their DD roll their big wins were over Baylor and SMU that were at the time two of the worst programs in the history if D1-A football and each was matched with a loss to similar all time horrible teams the next season

  37. -- One big mistake parents make... totally paying for college..... If kids work and contribute then they tend to take college more seriously ... it is now their money being spent. -- Part two .... so many run up a huge debt and partially because of partying and having a good time.. --For most professions, going to a private school is just not worth the price difference... grads from recognized state schools ( not SW South Dakota State) do just as well.. In fact I have known some people who prefer grads from a state schools ... they are more likely to know how to work and don't think people "owe" them and that they should be in charge. --Another consideration.... one year at a local community (if it is a good one) ......Classes are smaller [ not 50-200+ ], profs. that likely know your name, can get help if needed, and at many Mega-universities, the "prof" is a TA with only a BA and maybe teaching his/her first class ever.... [ I was one but had taught one year ] These people would never be allowed to teach a class at a community college, must have graduate degree with 20+ hrs. grad hours in that area. Most in those have taught for years and know how and what to teach... I teach a lot of Aggies, TxTech students plus others in the summer ... they claim our classes are just as tough standardwise but have profs who actually can speak English [ largest complaint I hear about those two places, can't understand those TA profs at Megasize Univ. ] Toss in many profs at Mega Univ are more concerned about publishing and research than teaching.

  39. Medical costs - that is all part of what the company and union negotiate. Pay a little more for medical but get a slightly higher wage or the "credit" from the company to help cover that. Pay less for medical but get lower wage to help compensate. These are ways that contracts get negotiated. Same with paid time off. Same with raises. Same with everything. Hostess – I also seem to remember that management got a huge raise (somewhere along the lines of 200%) and refused to negotiate a decent wage for the workers – professionals I might add. The company is failing and you give yourself a huge raise? I find it very hard for a CEO getting a multi-million dollar “bonus” when the company is hundreds of millions of dollars in the red. There are some good CEOs. Several years ago the CEO of American Airlines refused to take a salary until AA made a profit. Others have done the same but very few. Wildcat strikes – unions don’t do that anymore because it is against the contract. Workers go on a Wildcat strike, the contract is voided, and there is no longer a union. The workers and the company suffer. Anyone who thinks a “strike” is the first line of action knows nothing about unions, companies or negotiations. A strike is the last thing anyone wants and is a last resort, not a first resort. It is much more common for union workers to continue working after the contract expires while negotiations continue. Companies and unions start preparing for the next contract just seconds after the ink dries on the current one. Not all industries are unionized and don’t need to be. The industries that need unions are blue collar, do not require higher education, and have difficult relocation options. Coal miners, airline workers, steel workers are good examples. You don’t need a college degree to do the job. You can walk straight from high school graduation into the coal mine or steel mill. Those are also jobs where if you leave you can’t go across the street to another company. It means selling your house and moving to another city. We are fortunate in Dallas that there are two major airlines headquartered here. But if you work for Delta (Atlanta) or United (Chicago) or Northwest (Minneapolis) and leave a job where you have to work at the headquarters, you are moving to another city. And while you do have to have special certifications for many jobs that are union with the airlines, you can walk immediately from high school graduation to the workforce.

We're not saying he's a terrible person just seems kind of odd considering the "facts" the AD provided us. You can't take forums too personally. Same team Farva.

However, after so many years of disappointment with the AD, I have a feeling that very little time, thought, and effort will be put into this very special milestone. I feel like I will be very underwhelmed, I certainly hope I am proven wrong.
