However, I doubt the movers and shakers of college football care. Louisville crushed Florida tonight. Yeah, that Louisville that was a 15+ point underdog and wasn't given a chance by anybody. Look, you can't decide the best teams by polls, computers, comparing schedules or even the eye test. The big bad SEC got beat by Clemson, Louisville, Northwestern, and Georgia struggled with a Nebraska team that lost it's last game by 40+ points. South Carolina barely beat Michigan and Michigan is ordinary. The SEC is still the best conference top to bottom but champions shouldn't be determined by reputation. Or certainly not by one game. Until there is an eight team playoff, the system is still a joke. It gets proven every year when a team that no one thinks can win a BCS game, wins one. The list is so long it would take too long to type. Instead we get the "experts" wrong......again.5 points

Driving today I caught a segment talking about the Mavs and their woes. The talk turned to the draft and how very weak they thought it was. One of the guys said "a player from NORTH TEXAS (capitalized because they emphasized it) might be the #1 pick!". They apparently have heard this rumor from NBA insiders. This highlighted two things to me. 1)No matter how "weak" this draft class might or might not be, there are people who think Tony is #1 pick worthy. Yep, the same guy who is supposedly too pouty and lazy to run our scheme might be numero uno on draft day. (Not my words, theirs) 2)This absolute dumpster fire of a season has made the thought of one of our guts as the first pick such a joke...and such an indictment on this draft. If JJ were still here, or any competent coach, and we were sitting on a 3,4 or 5 losses instead of staring at a three game blowout loss streak, what could the press from Tony do for us?! Anyone think Tony is gonna speak glowingly of this place after this beating of a season? We will feel the butt pounding from this hiring mistake for a long, long time.5 points

I love the bowl games....yes, i would prefer a playoff system, but it is college football and a better alternative to watching pro. until we get that perfect playoff system...give me bowls...lots of them5 points

Personally, I will continue to follow games (and attend a couple while I'm in town), but I know exactly how you feel. Furthermore, your attitude is probably right in tune with most of our fans/alumni/students. And . . . that is the very reason why we need to take immediate action to stop the bleeding. A $1.2 million buyout is cheap compared to the price we will pay over the next decade if our program has to undergo a lengthy rebuilding process.5 points

Ok emmitt, a not embarrassing jj loss from last year. 97-64 to University of Texas Arlington. a not so embarrassing loss to Miss. State, 82-59. A not so embarrassing loss to columbia with an rpi of 187 72-57. OH yeah, and that loss to Tech early in the year who finished the season with a staggering rpi of 240. I am not taking up for Tony Benford, I am just not going to knee jerk and say fire em all, they stink. I am watching the same games you guys are, and I think this Andrew is not being realistic. If these kids can't play, then he better find some that can. He better go find a juco point guard that can shoot. I am just saying that this team might very well be overhyped.... Not what was advertised. Heck yes he is going to come in saying things like "They are scared to play in Denton" and "Our goal is not only to go to the tournament, but to go deep in the tournament". I heard all of these things several times. We were all set up for a big, big let down. It is time to pick ourselves up, be realistic about what we have here, and figure out what we can do to help right the ship. For my part I am going to sit at the games and encourage our players, heckle the refs to the point where they might throw me out of a game, and thank god that my living does not rely on the actions of 18 to 22 year old kids. If at the end of next year we have completely lost it and have gone way backwards, then I will be more critical of Coach Benford, but not in public, not on an internet board. Only in private conversations with whoever wants to listen. It is just nor fair to judge this thing one sided right now, that is all I am saying.4 points

Great, except you ignore that facts that this team is worse in just about every statistical category than they were last year. You ignore the fact that this team is far worse defensively than they were with less talent last year. You ignore the fact that the main players on this team have a year of college experience under their belt and have regressed. You ignore the fact that JJ had a less talented team in the Belt tournament finals last year (something we won't see this year). You ignore the fact that we were never blown out by a conference foe last year, home or away (even though we were far less experienced and far less talented the last 2/3 of conference play). You also ignore the visual evidence of Benford as a bench coach. You ignore Benford getting mad at a player, turning around and looking at the 3 guys that are immediately behind him, scanning the 3 frantically, pointing at one, changing his mind, and sending another in for the player at which his ire is directed (a common occurrence). You ignore non-sensical substitution patterns. You ignore Benford yelling at the players loud enough for the 1st 30 rows to hear. But, other than all that, your right. It's JJs fault.3 points

I think there needs to be a 16 team playoff. If you want to give the Big 5 conferences an advantage let them have 2 teams each in, the other conference champions all get in, and the 16th team is the highest ranked team still on the board.3 points

Heard this guy had a bad death in his family and decided to stay close to home after hs. Transitioned to LB over past year with ex-NYG LB. Wasn't big enough to play DE at this level. Talked to extremely reliable source that says this kid is at a whole new level physically and still as intense as ever and is willing to earn a spot on the mean green. Heard this kid is a beast... The by the way UTA isn't true because the kid is enrolled at UNT and starts class in a week.3 points

I've decided not to post much at all, and really don't look to see when we play or who any longer. This is really sad!!! I always followed UNT games for the last 7 years and purchase premium online membership to watch games over the internet. I've given up, sad to say!!! I'll check in from time to time, but if RV isn't going to do anything then why should I?3 points

Romo is a good QB. But, there have many many good QBs in the league stuck in bad situations team-wise. You have to look at everyone's situation. Dallas, whether we as Cowboy fans like to admit it or not, is going the way of Oakland - a franchise with an owner who stubbornly must be the center of attention, win or lose. He must make all decisions. He cannot let go of what he perceives to be "control" to a real football GM. I can't for the life of my understand why guys like Jerry Jones and Al Davis couldn't just enjoy their wealth, but let people who knew football better make decisions as the league progressed into a baseball-like free agency entity. How anyone can look at the Cowboys offensive line and place blame for whatever failures Dallas has on Romo is beyond me. If you have no run game, it is because your offensive line is not good. Look at Washington, or any team under Shanahan in Denver. You can take any decent back and make them productive with a good offensive line. With the threat of a run game, you open up the pass game. Dallas' run game is a joke. Their offensive line is a joke. And, really, their receiving corp is inconsistent. They gave a huge contract to Miles Austin, which is a terrible albatross now. You simply cannot give out that kind of contract based on one year of production. You can't. Dallas did, and got stuck with it. Dez Bryant...he catches some, he misses some. He'll never be disciplined enough about his game to be a consistent threat. Despite the head cases Randy Moss and Terrell Owens were off the field, they managed many great years on the field. Bryant...it's just not in him. The only consistent part of the Cowboy offense since Tony Romo has been starter has been Jason Witten. It's not enough. Jerry and his boy have done a terrible job of building the team around Tony and Jason. it's a terrible waste of two first rate talents.3 points

After suffering an 18 point loss on the road without CJ, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back at last years team's road losses after losing both CJ and JWill to academics: 01/14/12. At ULM. 68-55 win 01/25/11. At LaLa. 62-64 loss 02/09/11 at FIU. 68-61 win 02/11/11. At FAU. 81-86 OT loss 02/23/11. At UALR. 75-67 win 02/26/11. At Denver. 52-64 loss (with nothing on the line as I recall) Throw in a 2 point home loss to a MTSU team that was much better than the team we just lost to by 18 points. Several things. Notice how we only gave up more than 70 points in one road game, and that game went to OT. So far, the only game we have lost and still held opponents under 70 was St. Louis, by far the best we have played all season. All other losses we have given up 70 plus. This team does not play defense, even with a far superior lineup. That is coaching.2 points

We are the worst shooting team that I've ever had the displeasure of watching at the college level. I shudder to think of what those other 20-30 teams that rank beneath us in field goal percentage must look like. Sheesh. Why, then, did Benford not bring in a single shooter in the offseason?! Obviously we can't shoot the ball. THIS IS NOT A SURPRISE. We knew this last year. Now outside of Overlander, we don't have anyone who even has a decent stroke that'd make you THINK that they could hit a shot. We all witnessed Walton last year. There's too much game film and stats available from last season to prove that he's not the answer as an outside shooter to NOT bring in at least another. We brought in Coleman, Hardwick, TJ Taylor. Coleman looks like a bust so far, but I'll give you that we needed depth at F/C. I have no idea what to make of Hardwick at this point. He looks like he could be a good ball distributor but he rarely plays and certainly doesn't take many outside shots. TJ Taylor cost us Norris....who I can't honestly say would have been the answer to our shooting woes, either. TJ Taylor may turn out to be the second coming of Calvin Watson....or he may never step foot on the floor for us. Either way, our entire fanbase knew we had a team that had few pure shooters. Any professionally paid coach knew that as well. I think, as a fanbase, we assumed that we'd see Benford implement a seriously furious pace on the defensive end of the floor and a jazzed up transition game to offset our shooting troubles. Instead we play poor on-ball defense, are too slow in transition, and play a slowed down motion based half court offense against teams that are largely playing zone. It's all a WTF moment every time I watch this team. If we're going to have trouble shooting the ball, we need to crash the boards and block out like our lives depend on it. But to blame a lack of shooters when we clearly knew this was going to be a problem is giving Benford a pass, impo.2 points

UTA's season is circling the drain. After beating New Mexico State at home by 21 last weekend, we scored a whopping 35 points against Denver the other day, then scored 46 against Boise State last night. Two 15 (or more) point losses at home. We have forgotten how to score. It's obvious we can't shoot the 3, now we can't score from 3 feet away. Looking very much like the bad 80s-90s Mavs teams UNT used to beat by 15 twice a year in the Southland.2 points

I would like to see CUSA and MWC dissolve the Big East and have 2 equally strong conferences. Below is just an idea of what that could look like. With all the conference shakeup going on, I probably forgot a team or two, but this would make for some great competition. MWC - Boise State - San Diego St. - UNLV - Colorado St. - Air Force - Fresno St. - Hawaii - SJSU - Nevada - New Mexico - Utah State - Wyoming - UTEP - SMU - Houston - BYU CUSA - North Texas - Rice - Memphis - ECU - Tulsa - Southern Miss - Tulane - La Tech - Marshall - MTSU - FAU - FIU - UCF - USF - UAB - Old Dominion - UTSA - UNCC2 points

I enjoy the title of this thread. If you are a Cowboys fan, you are a lemming while insinuating that Redskins fans are not. You know, because the Redskins have a long history under Synder of making great decisions and being really successful.2 points

Another blow, Jones was the player that could have done the most to turn this team around. Outside of being the point, he was the best offensive threat on the team.2 points

This team is all around bad! Bad coaching, bad shooting, bad defense, bad rebounding, and inflated egos. I think having shots fall in a nice streak will change all that. Why play defense if we can't score, let's leak out to try and steal a basket, and don't mess up or I'll come out. I'm not happy with the coach as much as with the players.2 points

I voted no, but only for two real reasons: (1) The Big East's television contract probably won't end up being that much better than whatever C-USA renegotiates, and (2) I don't really like yankees and want no association with a part of the country Texas will soon secede from anyway.2 points

I didn't say that It was his fault. What is fault? Is it Rick V.s fault that Mitchell loafs back on defense, and by the admission of NBA scouts in national publications that he is late on offense? Is this Johnny's fault? I am merely saying that there are two kids on this team that Benford recruited. P.J. and Coleman. The rest of this talented bunch are the kids that Johnny brought here. I am merely stating that the team could quite possibly have the same record with the VERY NOTABLE AND embarrassing loss to Alabama School for the blind with Johnny Jones as coach of this team, and we would be calling for his head also. Who would Johnny have beat? Kansas State after the win against Alabama Huntsville, Virginia in their building? St. Louis in their building? Marquette in their building? Did Johnny beat Marquette this year with his LSU team? Based on the rpi's of the teams that we have played this year, and Johnny's ten year history against these typed of RPI's, including his short stint at LSU, we would have the same record as we do now. He has beaten no one at lsu, and lost to Marquette and Boise State???? Just comparing, as you say.1 point

Translation: You think the world revolves around you or Houston. News flash. It doesn't. The man spoke about markets and privates schools. Seriously, your commentary is worthless. Its a new year, go away.1 point

This is what I read as well. I think he is saying to his donors, "Look, C-USA already has Dallas and Houston. Even though it doesn't now have other private schools like us, we'll probably be okay because we're already beating the public schools in C-USA." Remember, though, as I've already said, Tulsa's old money really thinks TU is a basketball school. They would have slobbered at the opportunity to get into the Big East before all of the basketball school left it. Although the MWC has no privates either, they will - in theory - have better hoops programs than the new Big East will. Currently, MWC RPI is #2, Big East #3...C-USA #11, behind the MVC (led by Creighton) and WCC (led by Gonzaga). Adding us, UTSA, and the others isn't going to help C-USA's basketball profile. Sun Belt RPI is currently #21, below even the Southland. These RPI rankings are as of 1/2/13, which, last I checked was today: http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/rpi-ranking/rpi-rating-by-conf1 point

Doesn't help them that so few of the shots are open. Tired of watching pass the ball around 6-7 feet behind the three point line followed by a shot rushed before shot clock violation. Thought coach said we would get out and run...guess he just meant they would get out and run in practice before the game...1 point
