  1. Hi Rick, This is Grant Gilbert. I just want to say thank you. I didn’t go to a small school, a cheap school, or a convenient school. I went to the school of my choice! I made a conscious decision to go to a school that wasn’t a subsidiary of another school, had sports programs to enjoy, had a tradition, and was located where I could be an extremely active member of the alumni association. Those are some reasons why I chose North Texas! I’m proud to be a UNT alum. There is no better time to be a part of the mean green nation than now. Thank you for giving us an awesome stadium, good athletics programs, and now a real chance to get competitive with CUSA. Congrats to Johnny Jones and Karen Aston, but you better stay put, Sir. Thank you

  3. 1. North Texas- No competition. This is like Charlie Sheen vs the world on a who can do more drugs competition 2. Tulane- Trust me- hot AND smart. Rich dads too. and new orleans, who doesnt like it? 3. UNC-Charlotte- had an ex from there, her sorority sisters looked pretty good- decent ladies come out of charlotte 4. Tulsa- OU takes the cake in Oklahoma, but Tulsa has some definite sleeper hotties 5. Rice- 3rd worst in texas in terms of attractiveness, smartness quotient brings em up. Plus they can also party, do my taxes, operate NASA, do public policy, solve hard math problems etc 6. FIU- with 47k students, there's got to be some nice latin ladies. if not,, theres always miami proper 7. UTSA- Cap students who go to UT after a year- YES everyone else- No. 8. Marshall- the only thing thundering in this school is the thighs of the daughters of coal miners 9.ECU- Great football team but if I want something easy on the eyes I drive to Charlotte or Chapel Hill 10. UTEP-you really have to mine for the hotties here 11. UAB- Birmingham is the biggest city in Alabama, so there has to be one 12. Southern Miss- go ahead, find someone who Brett Favre hasnt slept with 13. Louisiana Tech- if you want a girl who looks like Karl Malone, you stop in Ruston

  4. Harry you have to give yourself a huge pat on the back as well. Building community at North Texas was something virtually nonexistent back during the Matt Simon years and your willingness to put in the hard work and I'm sure countless dollars into this website have been another key contributor to this. No question in my mind that this board has been one of the big reasons we see 15K minimum average attendance even in 2-8 football seasons. Kudos to you and all of the staff (is it "staff"?) of GMG.com

  5. If we are going to thank former football players, I would like to thank someone from my Mean Green generation (and my favorite QB ever).....Jordan Case (#8 on your program), who headed up the stadium committee. He is also a significant contributor to the Mean Green Club fund.

  6. I think NT will be very competitive in the CUSA, but the first priority is to finish out the Belt with a bang. Redshirting players for CUSA is crazy, if you want to do better in NT's first year you get them a year of experience. I expect recruiting to get better not worse; there is no reason to give this years recruits another year when in general NT should anticipate getting more advanced recruits.

  12. Trilli was was fired mid-March, 2001: RV was not hired till April 4, 2001 so I don't think he had anything to do with the Trilli situation. Trilli was technically fired by an interim AD, but in all reality; no place but the old NT would he be allowed to stay as long as he did. I also am getting a little fed up with the poor Trilli thing being fired after the funeral of Marcellus Wright. It was indeed a tragic situation but the saddest part of the saga was that Trilli kicked Wright off the team months prior because of his lack of effort. It was not Trilli's fault because no one knew of his condition but overall it was not NT at its best.

  14. In a short amount of time, UNT has a made great strides, which have drastically altered the face of the campus and, in my opinion, greatly improved the overall college experience. Since 1999- when I began- I think of the following: Gateway Center Built Mean Green Village built New Student Rec Center New Business Building Greek Row expanded/Sorority housing built New Dallas Campus & Law School (love it or hate it) Two NCAA Tourney Appearances Four Bowl Appearances New Stadium New Conference (twice) I'm sure there are other things I'm missing... but that's a lot in just 13 years.

  20. idon't consider the lack of another non revenue sport a flaw. if we added mens baseball we probably would have to add at least one other womens sport. the bottom line is that the only sport we have that produces somewhat of a positive is mens football, and i doubt it is that much. our mens basketball program eats up $800,000+ in coaching expentures, draws 4,000 average, of which about 1,500 are students[just a guess], which doesn't leave a lot of income when your base is about 2,500. SMU spends more money and gets less out of it than any university i know, and even they can't afford mens baseball. i can't justify $7 million or so dollars to build a baseball park whose fans will number about the same as our womens basketball attendance, plus the cost of coaches and scholarships.strike 3 for me.

  22. 15 ppg, 10 Assts. last season. From Miami, Fl (played in Ft. Lauderdale) before moving to to Houston. His goal was to lead the SEC in assist his freshman year. Also had a 25 pts 15 assist game while playing a game in New York or Atlanta. Seems to be a better player than the 6-9 Juco guy. (I'd pass on him, btw, from the video I saw and being a 6th man on his Juco team) Not sure I like 5-9/5-10 guards on the college level. Very tiny kid. Maybe Tasty can get Benford on the GMG podcast to get an update on this kid and who he plans to run off. (Of course we need to tell Benford that JJ appeared weekly on the podcast)

  25. I wish The University and the City of Denton would go ahead and reroute Bonnie Brae around the outside of the athletic village closer to I35W and unify the Athletic Village. That would be so much safer, particularly with Denton's anticipated growth to the south and the increased traffic. The land inside the Athletic Village could better be utilized for parking areas and safe pedestrian walkways between facilities. 1 Apogee Stadium 2 North Texas Athletic Center 3 Darrell Dickey Practice Facility 4 Waranch Tennis Facility 5 Denia Rattlesnake Refuge 6 Future Track Facility 7 Future Baseball Complex 8 Lovelace Softball Stadium 9 Soccer Stadium

  31. OK so I found the CUSA bowl tie ins: Autozone Liberty Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Sheraton Hawaii R+L New Orleans Texas Bowl Houston EagleBank Bowl in Washington DC Plus I didn't realize how many games CUSA had on TV. From meangreensports.com The C-USA TV package had nearly 70 football games broadcast nationally or regionally in 2011. The networks were CBS Sports Network, Fox Sports Net, FX, ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, CSS and others. That doesn't include ESPN3 games or other potential television partners. Suffice to say, you won't have any excuses for not being able to watch North Texas anymore.

  37. That is the hazard of hanging around the opponent's board. And you could beat us a hundred times and it is not going to do anything for you. People are still going to go 'Florida WHAT?' It'll work well for your mens' soccer team though. At least you have one!

  38. Until we are able to get a recruiting class or two of C-USA level players I think that we will be middle-of-the-pack. We have a couple of nice players such as Zachary Orr and Marcus Trice but we aren't deep enough yet to challenge for the top. I think that we have some good offensive linemen and Wintrich will have them physically ready to meet the challenge. If we can get a top-notch quarterback then I see us making a run at Tulsa and Southern Miss but La Tech and ECU could also be troublesome and Marshall can't be counted out either. I'm also not too thrilled about red-shirting players. I think that the quality of recruits will improve so play your best players now. The future will take care of itself.

  43. By the time we're officially having CUSA schedules then I fully expect us to be competitive against everybody and have at least a .500+ team. If McCarney is still here and continuing an upward trend we can easy have a 7-8 win season in 2013 in my opinion.

  46. Plumm...I am in 100% agreement with you, but I also think as good a question is...what can the actual fans do to help increase attendance? Well, here are a few ideas: 1) Buy season tickets and actually show up for the games 2) If, for whatever reason, you cannot make it to a game, make darn sure your tickets are in the hands of someone who can attend...do it early...as soon as you know you can't attend. 3) TALK positive about the program to your work associates, friends and neighbors...encourage them to attend a game and perhaps take them to a game 4) Stop complaining about every little so-called slight or problem you have had with the Athletic Dept. over the last ump-teen years. It's getting old and people are tired of hearing about your personal problems...and, those around you and readers of these boards see that stuff and it does no good...take your issues up privately with someone who can actually do something about it...and "get over it" and move on.... 5) Join the Mean green Club and the Alumni Association...put your support where your mouth is and where you say your loyalty lies...it helps. 6) Encourage recent grads to get in the "habit" of donating to their university...they can easily start with a recent grad membership to the Mean green Club for as little as $50. 7) Participate in the Coaches Caravans, attend watch parties when you can, wear your Mean Green Colors in public as often as you feel comfortable...show your pride... OK, I'll stop at seven, but you get the idea...lots we can all do to help, and it is a lot more enjoyable to be positive and help instead of negative and part of the problem. These things will definitely help attendance...you know they will.
