  1. Just an awful post on so many levels.

  2. i took Hank's play by play class as an RTVF major. for guest speakers he brought in George Dunham, Mark Folluowill, Brad Sham, Chuck Cooperstein, Ralph Strangis, Babe Laughenburg and many more... all of them were good at what they do. Jub and Hank are great together and Hank totally knows what he is doing. They are one of the best college pbp guys i have heard. Hank still has time to be an assoc ad, a professor, and do pbp and he does them all with a great passion for UNT. Jub, Hank and Followill all learned from the one and only bill mercer, a legend. They are all great. But Followill is busy with the mavs, the only reason he did pbp for the longhorn network was becuase of the lockout, he isnt their everyday pbp guy. Followill said many great things about UNT. Craig Way visited our class too...other then razzing on him for working for the longhorns, he was a real nice guy with many great things to say about UNT. All im sayin is we should keep Jub and Hank as long as possible.

  3. Kinda like letting the kids know that you want to leave your spouse, but it just didn't work out to end it, so that everyone knows they're part of a family with a bad marriage. On the other hand, i actually hope there's some way this can be something other than the sham of a story it looks like, just for the sake of those needing to believe. No, I don't know why i feel that way. It seems this is simply sad.

  5. UNT is really blessed with quality broadcasters.

  6. There will be nine teams in CUSA when SMU, UCF and Houston depart so only three are needed to return the conference to twelve teams. When negotiating TV contracts, larger TV markets are a better sell so that advertisers are happy. Temple is in the fourth largest TV market and North Texas is in the fifth. La Tech is the better program and would be my choice if there are no complaints from the TV network. FIU is in the large Miami market but is a young program that has had attendance problems until recently. Their on-campus stadium only seats 23,500. FAU, whose market is West Palm Beach, also has little history and attendance problems but at least they have a 30,000 seat stadium on their campus and have had two 20K+ crowds since it opened. CUSA is not an original entry conference so UTSA, who is not a FBS program yet, would not be in their radar. Their target should be the Sun Belt, who will take FCS and new programs.

  7. Chuck works for the Mavericks same as Folly. He mans the B team(radio) behind Folly(tv). People know him on the national level like they know any generic spare on Sporting News Radio.

  8. Wait- Mark Followill sounds like a high school football radio guy to you? Really? And Jub intimidated by Coop?!? REALLY??!? I'm just confused by all of it.

  9. At worst how can we get Followill more involved with his alma mater? Banquets functions Mavs ties, on air mentions.

  13. Let's at least go to this site and vote for NT. When I voted just now (Sat 4:30) La Tech was leading us 75-23

  15. Now do you see why you can't be open with negotiations until they are final? When they fail it's hard to come up with a plausible excuse. Not only are you disappointed and angry but the embarrassment will never go away.

  16. No, for some reason they didn't mention that. They basically talked about his name, how his mother named him "Sir" so he would get respect. They also talked about how he was the leader of Chapel Hill's defensive line, and how it was the D-line that won the game for them.

  17. Look, nothing against Coop... he's carved out a decent career over the years in a tough business... but National? Really? Some college coverage for Westwood One radio is the only non-Texas thing on his resume. Other than that, it's Texas sports radio pbp and lowly rated talk shows. Again, I respect the guy, but this isn't really fair in comparison to the other two guys. I mean, if you want to go early Ticket hosts, your "national" guys are Menefee and... gasp.... Bayless. Jub has the flat out highest rated show in morning drive on the highest rated radio station in the only demo that matters in the DFW market. He's a legend in the making, and most of all, he's as UNT as it gets. "Local, semi-professional" is the biggest reduction imaginable in this case. To say he'd be "intimidated" by Coop when he used to host the show BEFORE Coop's on the same radio station for years (Coop was let go while Jub is dominating almost two decades in) makes no sense. I had no clue Mark had a thing to do with SMU. You sure you're not thinking of Rich Phillips?? Mark has, IMHO, the best voice in local media and is the TV pbp guy for the NBA Champions... Also, a UNT guy. ..."employed because the employers only want to pay Local wage scale" - not on any planet.

  18. Why Hank does a great job as announcer, and I doubt doing play by play takes a whole lot from his other duties. Followill is very good and if you watched UT/NT on the longhorn network at times you would have thought he was working for NT. I do wonder if some of you know that Followill, Dunham do this for living, they get paid. I am sure Dunham does it more because of his love of the university than the more than likely small amount he is paid. However, others may not be willing to spend the time to work for NT when they can get much better compensation elsewhere. Likewise, I doubt NT wants to pay for two outside broadcasters.

  19. UNT has some of the best announcers out of any college in America. I don't really care if people don't know who Hank is.

  20. And now we have mods helping to hijack threads...I thought this was the football thread? Amazing what power will do...some say it might even corrupt...you know, giving others "time outs" on a whim for posting in the wrong thread, but having no fear of retaliation for oneself. Oh, for the shame of it all...Idi Amin lives! Sorry, yes, the opportunity was just too great to pass up....see you on Tony Mitchell day! Oh, dear...did I just become part of the hijacking?????

  21. George and Hank do a good show but Hank is a no one in the DFW market, Hank is the Ass. AD like Lifer said... If you dont know who Mark Followill and Chuck Cooperstein are then you know nothing about sports in the DFW...

  25. We are currently ranked 52nd in Scoring Defense allowing an average of 54.5 ppg. Tulane is tied with Baylor at 27th, allowing 51.9. Gonna be a tough nut to crack Friday night. Rick

  27. Dear Matt, If you're a boy and she's a girl, you might be able to seduce her and then convince her later, over pillow talk, to give UNT athletics a chance. Sometimes, women just need to be tickled in the right areas to understand the importance of it all. If she's not hot enough to seduce, why do you want her at the games anyway? Am I 21st Century enough in my thinking? Love, The Fake Lonnie Finch

  30. I enjoyed sitting, standing, and cheering shoulder to shoulder under the overhang of the club level. With all of us up there, it seemed like a crowded game... until you looked down over the empty rows to the field. GREAT way to end the season and I'm so excited for next year.

  31. I see what you did here... you insinuated that JayDub was a pot head and dead in a gutter, but then you found out he wasn't because he posted in this thread. Clever Clever FireHatMan. I got a 3 day ban for calling someone Chubby one time, but then again I didn't build half of Denton like you did, all great and mighty FHM.

  32. Didn't miss Boomer as much as the stats usually provided on the big screen. With Dunbar going for all those records, it would have been nice to know the status like we have had in ever other home game.

  34. Yep. I'm sure they've fought through the misspelled words, poor grammar, and lack of paragraphs & seen the error of their ways. I love it when DallasGreen pulls a FireFightnRick and pats himself on the back for being a better fan than you...all while making himself look like a complete ass by making generalizations about people.

  35. I just love it when folks tell "other people" what they should and should not do when they have no information regarding the situation, the process involved or the need for volunteers...perhaps those who feel the need to criticize should volunteer to man Boomer the next time it pours down and make sure that it all goes the way they think it should. I am fairly certain that your volunteer help would be fairly well received. Then you could acquire the tent, put up that tent, take care of it and Boomer before and during the game and then dry and clean Boomer properly after the game. Shouldn't take more than 4-5 hours of your time. The Talons probably aren't too hard to get in touch with. Sounds like some here know exactly how it SHOULD have been handled. I look forward to seeing how well you do that next season. I agree with Silver and his "traditions" mantra. Maybe some traditions just need a bit more volunteers to make sure they are handled properly.

  37. Please excuse the length of this final post of many made over two very long seasons. The CH football team has now played 30 games over those past two seasons. Chapel Hill Bulldogs vs. Alvarado Indians – two undefeated teams – played one-another last night and it was quite a game to the complete enjoyment of half of the 22, 748 total fans in attendance. CH won the Class 3-A Division 1 State Championship 20 – 19. For CH it was the 4th of 5 playoff games this year that were not decided until late in the 4th quarter. These were two evenly matched teams that had high-powered offenses coming into the game, and yet the game was a defensive struggle. In the end the game was decided by three Alvarado turnovers (2 fumbles; 1 interception) in the 4th quarter while CH had no turnovers throughout the game. Alvarado was led by running back Wayne Onderdonck who had accumulated approximately 2,800 yards during the season (btw, Alvarado had outscored their opponents prior to this game by a margin of 6 to 1). CH’s defense, for which all three of the Chapel Hill UNT commits play, held Onderdonck to 108 yards on 19 carries, including a 55-yard TD. I have to admit that for this game I watched/enjoyed the team as a whole tonight and paid very little attention to the individual UNT commits. The CH defensive line (certainly including Sir Calvin Wallace who despite being cut-blocked and double-teamed hustled from sideline to sideline chasing down ball carriers) played well, and the linebackers were very active. The offensive numbers for the other two UNT commits: Andrew Tucker – 20 carries for 79 yards and one 11-yard TD Rex Rollins – 10 carries for 32 yards Thanks for reading the CH updates I have sent along the way. Believe me, it has been a great pleasure to have watched this team play for the past two years. Thirty of forty-one players ended their CH career last night. They are a quality, unselfish, group of players who understand the whole concept of TEAM. Add our 2012 commits to CH alum Laramie Lee and UNT has among the best that CH has to offer. This is my last CH game update. -That’s 30-

  38. If the ladies win this game, show well at Texas (if not win?), and don't crap the bed during SBC play, we may have a tough time keeping Aston around. I'm sure some underachieving AQ schools will have their eyes on UNT women's basketball.

  41. To me an education is an education no matter where you get it from.. I think it is foolish to look at someone and judge them or an institution for that matter based on where they graduated and/or what rankings those schools have. Boise State, UNT, SMU, Harvard, Oxford you name it...if you don't have a brain outside of a textbook you probably won't make it in life anyways. I'll be in a conference with Boise State any day of the week.

  48. I remember in 2007 with 5 minutes to go against ASU in the conference tournament, Mark was stating to tell Mavs fans mid-game he was a little distracted by what his alma mater was about to do. He kept mentioning it during the broadcast and it made me incredibly happy to have two TVs going at once.

  49. I'm not crazy about Followill or the shrieking SMU guy from The Ticket. Both sound like high school football game radio people to me. If we're going local, try to get Chuck Cooperstein. Chuck is national. The only problem is that Jub may be intimidated in the presence of an authentic, national Hoo-Ha like Chuck.

  50. Chuck = national. Which of the others - Jub, Followill, or SMU guy - have a national contract? Out of those three, Chuck. Chuck is slick. The other guys are nice local guys for local teams. Get Chuck, he's national...just don't know that we'd pay national. We pay local or nothing, so we get what we have. It's better than some, sure. But, let's not get carried away. I understand many of you listen to sports radio and may have gone to school with the three non-national guys, but that doesn't put them in Chuck's league. Sorry.
