  1. Great article. Regarding the two talon claw/hand sign, it was reported they lost the third claw in a nasty wind turbine accident.

  2. I was there and what I take from this game is that we still have much room for improvement and still won by 14 points. We would have never, ever won this game or the IU game the last 4 years. To win by 14 when we didn't play our best says a lot. I am extremely proud of this team considering we were starting: Thompson: pretty much a freshman. Made smart decisions all night and would have had better numbers if a number of players hadn't dropped throws that hit them in the hands. Lemon: true freshman starting at OG. Y'Barbo: RFr staring at OG Johnson: RFr starting at OT next to Y'Barbo. Stojkovic: True Fr starting at OLB Orr: Soph starting at MLB Wright: Soph starting at OLB: These three are athletic and will be beasts very soon. Orr is all over the place. Wariner: starting CB made some impressive plays last night. The DL outside of AK47 all return next year and are playing well. My point? We are very young and have a very brighjt future. It is like watching your kids grow up, they will do something that has you scratching your head one minute and then jumping for joy the next. This team is fun to watch and will become more consistent over time. Invite a friend and enjoy a great night watching North Texas football in the best stadium around.

  4. I wanted to share a nice experience that my family and I had on Saturday night after the game. We went to eat at Wingstop off University so we can watch the Rangers game without having a lot of people around. Anyways, on our way out, a tall young man getting his drink asked us if we went to the game tonight and we were like "yeah, of course." The young man then said "Thank you for coming and thanks for supporting us." I was actually surprised to hear that and asked him if he was on the team and he said yes. All I said to him was "Great game tonight. Keep up the good work.!" I didn't bother to ask him his name or number since they're all equals in my book. I was just really impressed that he took the time to say thank you. It's experiences like that that make me think that things like this are happening around Denton. Go Mean Green!

  9. I don't think it would be significantly more competitive, but the opponents would still generate more fan interest. Rice, Southern Miss, Tulsa, UTEP, Memphis, Marshall > FAU, FIU, ULM, MUTS, etc. as far as fan interest. It seems it would also blow the doors off the Belt as a basketball conference.

  12. Royce had a great game Saturday. but...I don't understand how he is seen as a great player though. I guess if rarely turning around for the ball or tackling is what we want out of our d-backs, then I guess he's awesome. (bring on the minus's if you must)

  13. I still contend that Stradford is your answer here. Just throw the ball AT him deep 3 or 4 times a game. He doesn't have to catch it, just prove you'll take the shot!!

  14. After paying $20 to park and walking at least a mile at places like OU and UT, I find this discussion hard to believe. Parking at Fouts for $10 and only have to walk about a mile is a bargain in the college football world. You know what? Maybe our fans aren't ready for prime time. By the way, I think the Denton police have done a great job with the crowds.

  15. I tire of such dribble...UNT is not irrelevant any more so than SMU, UTA, etc. The challenge UNT faces is self-made over years and years of apathy by its student body, it administration and the residents of the City of Denton. It is of our very own making and WE can change that. It's not the conference, it's not the schools we play, it's not the record over the last however many games. heck, if it were the conference, how in the world do all the DII and DIII schools get turnout? Do not get me wrong here...I full well understand that having some in-state rivals can and will help attendance, as will winning on a much more consistent basis...BUT, there was absolutely ZERO excuse for the poor showing Saturday night at Apogee from the students and alums alike. It is UNT...it is YOUR University...it was great tailgate weather...it was a fall Saturday evening...It was co-eds in shorts and cowboy boots, it was tequila shots and beer and brats...it was FOOTBALL for gosh sakes. UNT will be as relevant or irrelevant as its own fans and student body make it. Any other "excuse" is just that...and excuse. Irrelevant, my rear end. The "times they are a changing" for UNT...and as has been quoted..."we have met the enemy and he is US".

  16. For peolple wanting to tailgate at the hill, there is a drop off zone off the access road. If youre complaining about a 10 min walk, go to a gym. Who cares, I walk from the rec to the games every week, its not that bad. If youre really complaining about $10 for parking youre just making more of an excuse not to come, seriously its $10, a penny more than a double bacon cheese burger with large fry and sweet tea from whataburger.

  18. It's almost like a young quarterback is learning how to see the whole field while balancing making smart and safe plays on check-downs to keep the game in the hands of the defense. It's a rare thing, but it's just crazy enough to work.

  19. First of all, the walk from Fouts to Apogee is nowhere near a mile. If you can walk around a mall once, then surely you can make it from Fouts to Apogee with no problem. Signage could be better but the signs at exits are controlled by the city and not by UNT. A shuttle would not work in this case because it would take triple the amount of time waiting to board and get across to Apogee than it would to just walk. Considering how many last minute walkup fans that we have, I don't think that would go over well for those that show up at 5:30 for a 6PM kickoff and expect to make it straight over. This being said, our fans need to SUCK IT UP! UNT fans have been spoiled for years and I am sure most would still complain even if we played the football game in their own backyard. You should know what to expect when you come to a sports stadium. A high volume of people will make traffic and parking difficult. There aren't many other options at this point and I think the lots and routes have been near perfected. If you think standing in line for an hour to get on a shuttle bus that would probably only fit around 30 people then you must be crazy. Come early, be prepared, GO MEAN GREEN!

  20. If you are going to a sporting event it is a good idea to make a plan on traffic and parking. I don't want cops answering questions. It's not their job and it holds up traffic. That being said, I agree the signage should be better.

  21. This was fantastic! I couldn't help but smile while reading. My story is somewhat similar in that I didn't really get into North Texas athletics until after I graduated. What changed it for me was finding that group that was hardcore about UNT regardless of how we were doing. For me, it was my colleagues in Admissions. Their enthusiasm was contagious and I was hooked! Now I'm a second year football season ticket holder, first year basketball season ticket holder and lifelong North Texas fan. I can't wait to see our little Mean Green nation grow and infiltrate the world of collegiate athletics. Go Mean Green!

  23. I do. Attendance is always, ALWAYS better for our home OOC games.

  24. The attendance was absolutely the worst part of the evening. I do believe that that was the actual count and did not include season tickets. If this is our fan base then we can forget about another conference. Where were the students? While we need many more Denton townspeople to embrace this program we need our students to lead the way. The two sections that did attend were magnificent but there needed to be at least four times that number. Let me say one positive about student attendance...the band. The band was as lively as I've ever seen them and the sound was great. Tremendous performance. Their pregame concerts also were appreciated.

  25. I had someone at work today tell me that someone invited them last night to sit in their club seats with them, and he enjoyed it so much, he told me he'd be purchasing club seats for next season. Hearing this absolutely made my day. Go Mean Green!

  26. I guess I just don't really care what people wear. Personally, I'd never be seen in a jersey of any kind unless I was actually playing the sport, but I understand other people feel differently about that and that's fine, it's their thing. I always sport clothing that either 1) supports the friend/family I attend the game with, or 2) the home team ,if I haven't any vested interest in the game. Because of this, I've got t-shirts and hats from all sorts of different colleges. I get one every memorable new stadium/sports event I attend. Someday they'll adorn the walls of the Mean Green Man Cave and Sports Bar with corresponding ticket stubs. I just genuinely love the sport. Probably other people do too, which is why they're at the game in the first place. No big deal.

  27. Bataan Death March? Really? I am now a booster with Blue Lot parking but I carried my 5 year old on my shoulders from the stadium all the way to the main library without problems for the first game. If you have small children..be a role model and stay in shape. My friend has tickets to UT games and told me his walk to the game is easily over a mile so not much to complain about. It will definitely be better once the pedestrian bridge is done, until then, be patient and enjoy the walk.

  32. My first time clan I took to the game this weekend had a blast too and it wasn't even the atmosphere of Houston and Indiana. I think that bodes wonderful. They loved the tailgate and rain drama at the end of the night. Of course North Texas has won 2 of their last 3 games so the win was something new too. Confident they will be back! GMG P.S. - our mission should be to bring new folks every single game.

  33. Call me poser if you want. You might have me confused with someone that gives a sh**. I live in New Braunfels and work in San Antonio so I am fairly familiar with these two programs. UTSA is drawing crowds NT would die for. We blame our poor attendance on the teams we play. Have you looked at who UTSA has played and still drawn great crowds? The city of SA is getting behind this team and time will only improve that. They are 2-4 (same as NT), and went 2 OT with a team (USA) that the Suck Belt is considering on elevating. Why not play them now when we have chance to kick their teeth in? From a purely selfish standpoint, I would love to see us play these teams because it would be very easy for me to go to those games. And for those of you still in DFW, wouldn't you like to make a trip to the Alamo Dome and be in a crowd of 30,000+ that we might actually win? Good revenue for the program and winnable at the same time. PS: They sell beer at the Alamo Dome.

  34. I've been lucky in that the person I go with has a blue lot pass, but I wouldn't spend 10 dollars to park at Fouts and walk. That's ridiculous considering where we are as far as a fanbase. I think we should do what OU does, free parking and charge for a shuttle ride. Loop the shuttles down the service road to Bonnie Brae, go under 35 and back up the service road and drop off at the old Raddison lot. Then the bus continues on to NT Blvd and around again. Charge $2 a person for a roundtrip shuttle and issue wristbands to identify who has paid. Pretty simple solution. You can adjust prices as demand increases. Oh, and the Denia "compromise" is ridiculous. Public streets should not be closed. They are called public for a reason.

  35. Great example of why it is so important to attend games. I was SO disappointed with attendance. There really is NO excuse. I don't care how much we've lost in the past, we have over 36k enrolled students and couldn't even get HALF the attendance that TCU got in Ft. Worth, which has about 7k students. Local citizens, UNT STUDENTS, and Alumni all need to realize that showing up really helps these players. They work hard and WANT to win and if more fans show up, that motivates them to work harder. Please PACK the stadium on homecoming and show more allegiance to your OWN university. Let's talk to students who have negative perceptions about UNT athletics and convince them of the importance of supporting UNT's teams. Thanks.

  37. There isn't anything to fix. You have to pay attention to context. The 14 championships was in reference to championships while Fouts was the home of the Mean Green. The video is about moving from the Fouts era to the Apogee era.

  40. It appears each week we have new features in the stadium. The 2nd game saw the installation of the Apogee Stadium sign in the end zone. This week, the sponsor signage went up. What I'd like to see fixed is the "14 conference championships" in our video. We have 24, not 14.

  44. Don't ever fudge with the tailgating. The tailgating incredibly adds to the atmosphere. Even if the games are occasionally letdowns, many fans still have a great day because of tailgating and want to continue to come out to the stadium.

  47. I have a problem with Mac's statement of "God" didn't give him great talent or great size...it seems like Mac goes out of his way to degrade the talent here. Julian is by far the best athlete on the team. He legitimately runs his 40 in the low 4.3s at 6'2 210. He broke the UNT broad jump record by over a foot! He can dunk a basketball by jumping flat-footed. The kid is an absolute freak of an athlete. If this kid was "football smart," he'd play on Sunday's, easily. Julian is a great kid too. I'm very glad that he's a member of the Mean Green and not those scumbags in Dallas. Before the year Mac said we were the smallest and slowest team in division one. Not only is that not true, but we've already played a team in the freaking big ten that was smaller AND slower than we were. It just seems like he's trying to take pressure off himself by misleading the public as to how much talent we have. Just my two cents. Go Mean Green!

  48. The TX/OU game is at 11am. You can't get any better in the central time zone, and there really is no excuse for that ruining attendance. None. Even if you go to the game, you should be able to make it back to Denton for the UNT game. I have to be at a wedding tomorrow night at 6:30. So you can imagine my frustration. This is the only place I can vent about it too. (facebook friends and friends of friends). People... October to the end of the year is off limits for weddings. Period. Don't be selfish, move your wedding, you and your guests will have a better time. Huge weekend for sports fans in this city. What the hell were you thinking.

  49. You are letting me off much too easily.....I like baseball, just not as much as I like UNT. Now, if it were a UNT baseball game that would be another matter in itself...you pick 'em in that regard. But, professional baseball vs UNT? Never even close to a choice having to be made.
