  1. So my friend and I brewed some Oktoberfest for the Sept game to pay tribute to our players, coaches, athletic program and of course the fans. Thought you all would enjoy seeing this. Here is the label. GO MEAN GREEN! JRock

  2. I like how the pole in the middle of the room was made "extra sturdy" to accomodate the added weight of the typical SMU Coed.

  3. Is that supposed to be an invitation? I mean you haven't even taken me out on the "learn about GMG" date yet and you want me to be a part of your debauchery and questionable decisions?! I am a lady you know

  4. Hear through the GB Facebook page that they had 370+ students come out to the first day of summer band. I'm excited to hear how loud they will be in the bowl of the stadium! (please don't turn this into a GB bashing topic, just trying to share some more good news)

  5. I think its very nice. The club like lighting may just be for photo purposes. Had our locker rooms been green or something ilke that we'd love it. Can we please stop all this SMU bashing nonsense and worry about our own damn selves?

  6. Here's your proof. We heard that anonymity was really important to GMG, so this is all you get...

  7. we may have large alumni numbers, but we don't act like it. Let's fill the stadium and turn our potential into action

  10. Guys, I'm sorry to bump this back to the board again but I wanted to thank all, and the verbal well-wishers especially, for the kind remarks. I can't live up to the kudos given but they were humbly appreciated. And to Jim if I can make it to Wednesday, Jessica and I will have completed 54 years of marriage. I'm having some health issues at the moment but I'm hopeful that everything will be under control by September 10 when I'll see you at one of the greater events of my life. Not quite equal to my wedding day or the birth of my children but damn close. I cherish the friendship of those on this board, met or unmet, and hope that we are beginning the greatest era of success in the history of our alma mater.

  11. To paraphrase the old saying. The NCAA was so mad at Miami, they put UCF on probation.

  12. I have always felt that SMU, even when they were winning big (right before the downfall) they didn't really appeal to the "joe six-packs" of the Dallas area. I wasn't surprised when SMU got caught cheating, because, after all, how many of their football players came there because they really thought that they "fit in" with the SMU student/alumni base? The only ones I can think of were the ones that they recruited from Highland Park and/or Richardson. Joe six-pack not only wants a program that can win, but a program where he can buy a t-shirt and realistically pretend that he is one of them. That's certainly how UT makes a good bit of it's money.

  13. Hush you. It sounds better to say we're worried about potential fans than to admit we're really all about ourselves.

  14. Not that I don't see the point being made, but do practice updates really add fans or just further wet the whistle of the diehards? I can't imagine living near a team I don't care about and being sucked in by their training camp/practice stories.

  17. I was there today to do some measuring for Boomer. Officials are considering placing the cannon on either of the two grassy knolls behind the south endzone, but there are concerns that the steps may have been too narrow for the axles to pass through to access this space? They aren't with five inches to spare. I hope this is where it is decided to place it as it is a perfect location because it is elevated to the perfect height with lots of space to manuever around in and far enough back to allow for a great level of safety and clearance. 18. No, he didn't. They always had winning records, and were in the top half of the Big XII. He definitely took them to the next level, but they weren't anywhere close to the bottom of D1 when he took over.

  23. This young man was one of my favorites in last falls work outs. He runs good routes, has great hands, and he usually gets an impressive "yards after catch". If this young man stays healthy, he will make a difference in many of the games this year.

  24. Went to Denton today to get another North Texas ez-up tent. I'm going with the three tent setup this season in honor of the new stadium. Walking across campus I was blown away by how it has evolved in just the ten years since I left. New buildings, new fountains, new signage...same ol' BEAUTIFUL coeds. It got me to thinking about the real impact the new stadium will have. Just imagine the number of people who will come back to campus for the first time in a long time just to see what all the fuss is about concerning the stadium. These people will walk across campus and realize just how much they have missed by staying away!!! Apogee is a draw that will affect and enhance EVERY facet of our fine university just because people will return. The bookstore has a hell of a selection of cool clothing. There is a Nike tracksuit taht I am asking for for my birthday in October. It's only $140 ("only" being sarcasticly stated) I went in an got my tent and a new shirt for my daughter...then about lost my mind!!! I saw some of the "non-traditional" students (read: hippies) allowing their dogs and naked bottomed baby to splash around in the fountains in front of the library. These are the types that we will never reach. These are the ones that caused my uncle to say we will "never see more than 4,000 people in that stadium at any point this season...because I am a member of the vocal minority" at North Texas. My uncle is a lifetime Dentonite and he (along with my grandfather) truly believe that North Texas is and will always be a commuter school for the artsy fartsy types. HERE IS THE SUPER DUPER AWESOME THING THOUGH...we don't need every student to give a rats ass about football! We just need 1/4 of the students to care. And I think we could easily do better than that. You think all 50,000 students as UT care about football? Nope. And they don't need to. I went over to the stadium and talked to Matt Stitsinger. Let me say this for everyone to read and understand. ]THE 24 HOUR TAILGATE IS ON!!!! I was told, by two AD staff members now, that getting there at 6pm Friday is absolutely permissible. Soooooo....who's with me? Who's coming with me? (Cue Jerry Maguire clip) All I can say is, if you get there Friday night, the traffic patterns won't affect you at all. I'm not sayin...I'm just sayin. Besides, how ofent do we open a brand new stadium???? And can I say just one more time, this stadium is...hands down...on par with anything any mid major can show you unless they're using an NFL stadium to play their games.

  26. Substitute the red lights for green and the mustang logo for the SOW and everyone on here would be saying how badass it looks. The fact is that incoming freshmen are going to love that locker-room when they see it for the first time.

  30. The players can market themselves... when in class, show up be attentive, and talk to students about the team. Dan Mccarney does a good job of it and I'd expect a guy whose getting a full scholarship to do the same thing. It's interesting- I had class with a lot of basketball players and they always promoted themselves. Josh White did a great job of it.

  31. McCarney and Bowen should have plenty of insight - both coached against Wilson and Sumlin when they were co-offensive coordinators or offensive coordinators at OU. They were co-offensive coordinators when they beat us like a drum in 2007. McCarney 2002: OU 49, Iowa State 3 (Wilson/Chuck Long, co-offensive coordinators) 2003: OU 53, Iowa State 7 (Wilson/Chuck Long, co-offensive coordinators) 2006: OU 34, Iowa State 6 (Wilson/Sumlin, co-offensive coordinators) Bowen 2008: OU 45, Kansas 31 (Wilson, offensive coordinator) 2009: OU 35, Kansas 13 (Wilson, offensive coordinator) It doesn't look all that great. But, look...it was OU at their prime. OU won the Big 12 title in three of those five seasons (2002, 2006, 2008), played for the national title with two of those teams (2003 and 2008), and went to BCS bowls after each of those seasons. So, it's not like McCarney and Bowen ever caught those guys in a bad year. Add to it that in two of those seasons, the OU offense produced two Heisman Trophy winners (Jason White in 2003 and Sam Bradford in 2008), and you can see the challenge every defensive coordinator had against them. McCarney was the DL coach for the Florida Gator squad the beat Bradford and OU for the title in 2008. And his line made two goal line stands against OU in the first half of that game, that pretty much took the wind out of the Sooners sails. Neither Houston nor Indiana will have the type of athletes OU had in those seasons. And, neither offensive scheme will be new to McCarney or Bowen. That's why I'm particularly interested in these games. Even if we don't win either of them, if we play them close with this young group of players and new coaches, I think we'll be able to safely say we're ready for Sun Belt play.

  32. CBL I like you so here's some hints: Loophole is too smoky. No girl wants smoke in their hair on a date. Michagb hates hugs, so skip from beers to stories. And she loves when you buy her friends drinks too. See how I worked that last part in there? I want to get something out of this message board romance.

  33. I have waited 17 long years for September 10th. Waited through the plauges of crickets, the urine troughs in the unbearably hot bathrooms, the warm Cokes, terrible sightlines, the peeling paint. I know there are many posters who have waited much much longer. Hellfire, there are some that have waited 50+ years. I wonder if when the I am in my seat and I take in the atmosphere. The first rate band on a first rate field. The team touching Spiriki when they run on to the field. When I realize that Apogee is not just an internet board dream. I wonder if there will be a sports-cry. Not sure if I will be able to contain myself. I wonder how many of you feel the same. Disclaimer: It is extremely manly and macho to cry when it is related sports and/or the Mean Green.

  35. I really don't understand these "all or nothing" arguments against Leach. He did great things in the Big XII, broke records with Hal Mumme, recruited Heupel to OU as OC, beat a #1 team as a HC. But because DMac won a national title as a position coach and has a decent record at ISU, Leach is dog poo in comparison? I think both are great, but happen to like that DMac seems to be a bit more of a complete package...what with the defensive skins on the wall, our DC and retaining Chico. But that doesn't mean I think Leach hasn't won anything.

  39. Apprecite the fact the sources were listed...especially that always so friendly to the United States U.N. stuff. The vast majority of everything listed here as something "wrong" with the United States can be refuted and explained rationally. Too much effort to try to get folks to understand that this sort of "stuff" just is so biased in its research as to be comical...I suppose now you'll want to quote that famously unbiased site Snopes.com.

  40. Yep that is what I said. I am not talking about the coaching fraternity. Hell you talk to coaches and they'll convince you what a great coach Todd Dodge is. I wasn't talking about coaching people who know McCarney. I am talking about the public in general whether its the casual fan or in many cases the die hard cfb fans. Your post is nothing but a homerism blow fest. Look I get it...I am excited about McCarney just as much as you but lets face the reality of public perception. You can go with McCarney every time over Leach or anybody else. I am pretty positive you probably said the same thing when Todd Dodge was hired 4 years ago and we all know what he did to this university.

  42. I'm curious. What kind of upgrades for the super pit do people want? With its 10,000 seats, certainly not capacity growth. I would guess relocating the press section from that premium real estate covering all of center court on the student side and luxury suites?

  46. SO...I was planning a little "backdoor action". I have scouted driving up from Richardson via Bush and I-35, cutting south at 377 to a road that winds around to the west and intersects Bonnie Brae about a mile south of the tennis center. Then I planned to come north on Bonnie Brae and enter at the tennis center to get to the Victory lot. The map implies that I won't be allowed to do that. Are you kiddin' me?!!!

  47. What? What are you trying to do here? Am I hallucinating? I thought the media freakin' loved putting Leach on TV. Behind OU and UT, I can't think of another Big XII team that was on TV as much while he was there? OSU might come close, but that's it.
