  1. I have never been comfortable with the argument that, because one gives more, he or she is "entitled" to (fill in the blank of what a big donor feels entitled to). Maybe I am naive, but I believe a lot of fans, and especially those on this board, find so much value in pulling for their school that they give what they can afford, or even a little beyond that, or an amount that correlates with the enjoyment garnered....kind of like those who support their local NPR station. I give a relatively large amount to NT athletics (it would be considered Maduro money if we were talking UT or A$M), but then again, I am 28 years out of school, have been blessed with an annual salary approaching 53% of Obama's definition of wealthy and truly feel joy and satisfaction in supporting a "charity" that clearly needs and appreciates my help. And when I get something in return, say an occasional win in football, a cool T-shirt or satchel from one of the Olympic sport coaches for supporting that sports fundraiser or an umbrella that I can't take into the stadium, I humbly offer my sincere gratitude for the lagniappe. 2. At first, we're all "Yay, a victory we can all celebrate because all/most of us were in favor of operations in Afghanistan because none of that is at all questionable and all very rock-solid!" And then Rick rolls in with, "No, must make political and divisive! GRR! SMASH!"

  3. I am, for your information, shelling out that kind of money (and more) for the school. So, I am mocking no one except those with the chips on their shoulders who want to find something wrong with each and everything this administration does. It gets a little tirining...yawn...to see this stuff over and over again each and every time the department does something. How long ago was this process announced and how many times has it been explained? And now you come on and complain about the process. You know, they have these magic things called phones...even have little portable ones they call cell phones that don't have long distance charges....one could have called almost anytime if they were confused about the process or wanted more info on how exactly the process will work on selection day (OK, I'll give you the sarcasm thing on that sentence). To post there was "direct misleading" on the seat selection process is rather telling. What, might one ask, did you see as "directly misleading?" I would love to know what you felt was misleading as I have not experienced any of that so far. Maybe it's just because I pay really really close attention to things and ask a bunch of questions...even by phone, by email and in person, before I shell out the amount of money i am shelling out for seats. I know people who live a distance from Denton who have found it important enough to them that they have made the effort to get to Denton for an actual look-see. Sure not everyone can do that, but that does not mean that the opportunity was not presented. I will not be able to be present to select my seats...bummer, right? Maybe I should post how unfair it was that I have a family commitment that day/time and will have to miss and be hopeful that my proxy will select "correctly" for me". If not, I guess I can come on here and talk about how unfair everything was even though I fully knew the rules going into it. Sixty open seats per section seems like an opportunity to move location if you needed to do so to me...note I said opportunity, not sure thing. Just want to be clear so you don't think I am directly misleading anyone. You ask for an open house day to see the stadium...well, they have had tours available and have announced that for months. Sort of like an open house. Even if they had an open house, for sure it would be on a day when someone couldn't come and then it would be all the AD's fault that he didn't pick a different day. Cold chicken fingers at an athletic event...wow...really? I would imagine that everyone who ever has attended athletic events has experienced the "game day food" deal. No one will be throwing a dart at a board...unless of course the person they are selecting for did no pre-work and just said pick what's there! Ample time to let your proxy know exactly where you want your seats and what you priorities are for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. options. Don't you think that "throwing a dart" comment is a bit over the top and "mocking" in itself? If you think there will be a column in front of them you have done ZERO pre-work...Don't believe there are columns to be in front of anyone at the new stadium...another bit of hyperbole on your part it seems. Want to AD to do things top notch you say...well, how about a new 30,000 plus stadium designed by the same group that designed Cowboy stadium? That "top notch" enough for you? So, let's just stop all construction while groups of people wonder about the stadium unescorted on selection day. Man, OSHA would have a field day with that one I would imagine. Let's not worry about all the hazards and potential lawsuits that little deal would open the University up to. Sorry about those nose bleed NCAA seats...I agree that's a tough deal...any idea ahead of time where the seats would be located? Just asking. And, that shirt thing was definitely a cluster drill from the start to finish. Was that you that had that problem? And, yes, have heard horror stories about the festival parking thing, but I also saw lots and lots of people tailgating in the same spots at each home game. I would be interested in knowing why you had the problem and the others did not. Interesting, very interesting. Having graduated from three different universities, I can assure you that this stuff you mention is not unique to UNT...nor is it the common thing for all UNT fans. I wonder why it happens to the same folks over and over...really, that is pretty interesting. I wonder if it is like "finding what you are looking for". Don't know. Sure, i have had...and still do...my issues with things at UNT. But, have found through the years that it is often what you make of it that determines how the experience really ends. Besides, if folks can complain, why can't I not complain? If you can "mock" why can't I? I know...IT'S NOT FAIR!

  7. Disagree with you Emmitt. Boise St., TCU, and BYU are in that rare area of non-BCS teams that get treated like BCS teams. Why? Publicity. If they hammer Boise St., it is going to be HUGE news, and comparisons will be made on national networks between the unfair treatment. Now, if they hammer a Troy, Ball St., Eastern Michigan, UNT, or San Jose St., that action will be lucky to make the local papers. Moral of the story? Win at any cost. Cheat if you have to to win at a nationally recognized level. Because, if you do, you will receive a slap on the wrist from the NCAA for what it took to get you there. At sayin it's right, it just is. Can't wait to see the non-death penalty punishment handed out to Ohio St. (who, undoubtedly, deserves the death penalty).

  14. You're exactly right. In women's basketball it's more about skill. If you have a 5'10" post player that has been playing the post since she was a little girl opposed to a 5'10" guard that is pushed into that position as a sophomore in college, the outcome will be more productive. The typical women's basketball post player is between 5'11"-6'3". Alysha Clark (MTSU) and Chastity Reed (UALR) were effective post players. Both players were shorter than 6'. Neither were threats on the perimeter but could rebound and score the ball within 10'-15' of the basket. I know I am thrilled that there are some big bodies coming in!

  15. I opened a new facility last October that we needed to be able to show prospective clients during the construction process. This was explained to the construction company during the bid process and reiterated during all of the planning stages. We were able to host "Hard Hat" tours every Saturday from mid-July until opening and by appointment two nights a week during the same time frame. We had every person taking a tour sign a liability release provided by the construction company. This allowed us to properly present and sell our facility to the community and meet our opening goals. This was all done without the C of O. With proper planning this can be done and should be when selling a new product. It allows you to build excitement and allows the customer to see the progress of something they have personally invested in.

  18. Is it possible the school doesn't have the C of O of the stadium yet, (still belongs to HKS) and therefore cannot really "tour" people through it due to liability issues?

  19. "What I have said is we’re going to encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants. And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Quaida. That has to be our biggest national security priority.” - Barack Obama, during 2008 Presidential campaign Don't act like the President didn't always have the resolve to do what he felt like he needed to do. Maybe he didn't believe in "enhanced interrogations" - but that doesn't mean he didn't have a laser focus on getting bin Laden. The whole reason he complained about the Iraq war was because he said it took away from the Afghan conflict - and more precisely hunting down Osama. Frankly either/both side/s trying to score political points on this makes me sick.

  21. I sure hope so. I'd hate to think that 5 or so years down the road we'll be talking about how they weren't truly "great" or that the Sun Belt they played against was watered down. Sure hope we don't look back and discount them because they never made the top 25...hope we really can be content with the portion of the fan base that they lit a fire in and the legacy that they put in place.

  29. Everything is done by priority points now. The AD has done a lot to help people increase their points by giving to MGC before a certain date, pre-paying for season tickets, etc. Priority points is the best way to reward people who are regular contributors to the program by allowing them first access to the best possible seats over people who are buying tickets for 1 game a year. I'm excited about getting to choose where I sit as this was never an option for me when I first got FB season tickets at Fouts.

  30. man...this is starting to turn into the wrinkled $100 bill argument... this is probably a once in a lifetime thing that many want it done in a total hands on approach. i have no idea how other schools do this, but our school isn't doing it this way. i would love to get into the stadium before selecting, but that isn't possible...cool...next option is to pick my seats in person from a chart that you can see where the available seats are...great...i'll know all my options and could communicate with others that i want to sit next too...i really don't see the problem with this other than disappointment of not being able to get into the stadium first...life goes on...there are much worse things in life to complain about.

  31. Everyone seems to like the back and forth banter of "NORTH"..."TEXAS" so why not do "NORTH" (student)..."TEXAS" (alumni)..."MEAN" (student)..."GREEN" (alumni)...FIGHT (both). It could be administered at any time (when there is time) by the student side cheerleaders. The word "GO" (or "WIN") could be substituted for "FIGHT". It also could be repeated more than once.

  33. Count me as one who somehow thought the selection process was 'by hand.' Not sure how so many assumed that incorrectly. What exactly is the purpose of taking a half day off work to do a 'virtual selection?' I agree with JD, I was super excited not only about the selection but also the belief that this was going to be an experience like nothing I've done before. Instead, it's going to be the same process as my buying Tellatubbies on Ice tickets via Ticketmaster.

  34. I don't see anything wrong with doing it the way it's planned. It goes by priority points which would pretty much exclude trying to do it on one day. You can have a proxy to try to get what's available near where you'd like to be. This is not rocket science; just go with the flow.

  35. No doubt. But I would rather do seat selection in July after they have the keys. Would that make it a hectic summer for the AD? No doubt. But this is a big commitment for a lot of us, and it would be nice to see the property in which we are investing. And I second the out of area comment from JD. I only live 4 counties away, yet circumstances have not permitted me a stadium tour (Lord knows I have tried). I can only imagine how tough it is for an out of stater.

  46. I am sure you are completely respectful in mockingly yawning someone willing to put up that kind of money for your school. You will not have ample oppurtunity to move seats at a later time. There will be about 60 open seats in each section.. which they will continue to sell during the time we aren't there for a game. So on game day, there may be 30 left. That doesn't seem so ample for someone that may have a top pick and they just throw a dart at the whiteboard and hope there isn't a column in front of them. This AD needs to stop acting like it is amatuer hour and do things top notch. I am sure there is ample oppurtunity for those who are local, retired or/and completely in the pocket of the AD staff. Out of staters or the slightly out of touch with Denton, not so much. How about an 'open house' for people to come see the seats on a given day? Or maybe open the stadium for looking for one hour each day of the selection and anyone on that day can come see it live in person? I know, those are completely baffling ideas. Mind blowing in fact. How about seat selection days when people can actually attend? I guess I can fly in to Dallas, rent a car, pick my seat in a closed off room with cheap laptops and then mark off the my seats on a whiteboard. That sounds top notch! You shouldn't mock people's dismay at some news. It may be small to you, but over time people have built up chips on their collective shoulders regarding the way this AD operates. From cold chicken finger boxes at the MGC road tent, to misadvertising event times, to direct misleading on how the seat selection process will work, to my seat backs never being installed for the first couple of games EVERY season, to festival parking and arguing with attendants (that eventually led to my whole crew stopping to tailgate), to nose bleed seats for NCAA games, to not being able to exchange a shirt on MGG without outrageous shipping costs, to many other *small* things that just add up over the years in the fanbases' collective mind. Does the stop some like me from giving my money? No not yet, but I would love to see some progress instead of lip service. So go ahead, mock people that are disappointed in the amateur hour style of the seat selection, I am happy you are happy with it. I feel like yawning too.
