  1. This type of thread. We have multiple fire dodge now, dodge is a classy guy, who should be the replacement coach, give him till the end of the season threads on this board already. Post in one of them if you have an opinion. There is no need at this point to start a new thread on the subject unless you're trying to stir the pot or you think your opinion should be heard a bit louder than the one contained within said threads.

  2. But, I'm not going to activate it until after the WKU game - if we lose that game. If we win or play FIU close, then beat WKU, I'm going to hold out hope. If we get beat by WKU, that'll be the end. They are really bad. At that point, even beating an equally bad ULM wouldn't make a difference. I know this team can do it. They just need someone from shop class to make a giant wooden schedule showing the results of the first six and listing the remaining six games. Then, Todd Dodge, needs to bring a chain saw to the locker room Saturday and saw the giant wooden schedule in half between the Arkansas State game and the FIU game. Then, he needs to turn off the chain saw and say something stirring and patriotic to his team like, "Alright, the first half of the season in gone. F'get aboud it! What counts is these next six here where there aren't any final scores yet. So, now, which ones of you will take off your skirts and put on your big boy fighting pants and go out there a start delivering victories faster than Cynthia Izaguirre can erroreously deliver news!" Then, after the team is all stirred up like a nest of lawn mower-buzzed yellow jackets or other ground-dwelling vespidae, he needs to fire up the chain saw again, cut off the FIU part of the sign, and wave it wildly over his head while shrieking like a lemur before throwing it to one of the captains...after he turns off the chain saw again, though. Then, the team needs to take the sawed off FIU portion of the sign to the sideline with them and look at it before they take the field. Each player, before they take the field. The offense before it runs onto the field. The defense before it runs onto the field. The special teams before they run onto the field. The trainers and medical staff before they run onto the field. Each and every player and staff member is accountable to the wood. Then, after FIU is vanquished, the wooden board bearing it's name is to be brought back to the locker room and burned with the lighter of whichever player smokes something. And, when the board is burned, the ashes are to be stomped upon and trod underfoot at the heel of the victors. Thus saith the Lord. Then, the next week, the same thing is to be done, except at WKU instead of Fouts Field because it's a road game. Each week, one piece of the schedule sawed off by Dodge, carried to and from the sidelines, then destroyed as the team fights it's way to a 6-5 record with only the Kansas State Wildcats/Aggies standing in the way of a final victorious farewell to the stadium and a possible bowl birth. It could happen.

  3. Yeah, he is a good get for SMU. Not necessarily UNT quality. But, perfect for SMU level.

  4. Team, We all love the MEAN GREEN, and it's absolute torment for us all to take in each game lately especially the heartbreakers which are way too often over the last few years). Our administration is and has always committed itself to academic success and has now ultimately committed itself to athletic success with the finalization of a brand new fantastic football stadium for next year. We will be able to host good opponents that will ultimately give us the potential to prosper and develop our football program into one that all of us have dreamed of. I believe all of us respect Coach Dodge for what he has and tried to bring to this program; however, it is time for the University of North Texas to step up and bring in a Division 1 college football coach that can take our football team to the next level. I wish Coach Dodge the best but I think it's time to get a big name college football coach to represent a big time college football program and stadium!!!! GO MEAN GREEN....

  6. i agree with those who want an exprienced head coach, and hope we are past hiring "on the cheap". however, this decision, like all business decisions, boils down to " what do we want, what do we need, and what are we willing and able to pay for." i think most of us can" basically,"[ and i use the term loosely],agree upon questions 1&2. where the rubber meets the road is question #3, which only r.v. knows. i would hope that it is in the $400,000 to $500,000 range, which should give be enought to hire a proven head coach.

  11. Whatever..... Football is the most visable ahletic program we have. While I am glad that girls volleyball and soccer are doing well, I wouldn't consider this year a success for the Athletic Department. Football carries too much weight in this state and it is a shame that it is such a disapointment at North Texas. We need to keep supporting the team. It's the only thing we can do as fans to make the situation any better.

  12. Boy, we do have some dreamers in this fanbase, thats for sure. For those of you "it has to be a big name guy", I would like to invite you all out to eat at Ruths Chris Steakhouse with $5 in your pocket and no other form of payment.

  17. I don't believe Dunn has lied to anyone. In fact, I'm fairly confident he hasn't said anything to anyone. When the warrant officially came out, he turned himself in and that's all we've heard from him. Now, the girlfriend might have lied, that I don't know. Her original story was that he hit her and then later, she reconfirmed that he hit her, but added that it was "on accident." (Which seems a stretch at best, I agree.) I also think it should be clarified that while the jaw is technically broken, it's a very small hairline fracture. Not that it makes any real difference, but when I heard "break" originally, I thought "broke in half." Re: one hit. The report was that it was one hit. That I am fairly confident in. She was not bruised up or anything like that as someone that had been beaten would be. You are acting as if he went Mike Tyson on her and, from all accounts, that is not the case. I'm not trying to defend Dunn here. Or Drew for that matter. I will support their decision either way. But it is human nature for us to assume the worst in these types of situations and I think the worst case scenario that everyone is assuming is likely far from the actual situation. Re: the story I heard. I heard it well before the story was ever broken originally. The stuff that's floating around now could be real or fabricated, but given the timing of when I heard the account and who I heard it from, I trust the validity. Of course, I don't blame you for not doing so though and would probably be the same if the situations were reversed. And I assure you I do not want to hold the standards of UT. Just pointing out that it has happened before and that every punishment that I've heard tossed around is many times more severe than what some other schools have done. Hell, UNLV just suspended a guy that struck and choked his GF for only three games. And, unless I misunderstood the story, she DID press charges. The judge simply took a plea deal. Either way, here's a brief: - Girlfriend has hairline jaw fracture - Told doctor at the ER that boyfriend "hit her" - Police work up aggravated assault charges - Warrant issued for Dunn's arrest - Dunn turns himself in - Girl says that the hit was "on accident" and she refuses to press charges - Charges will likely go from felony to misdemeanor due to lack of evidence of an aggravated assault - Dunn has no history of domestic violence nor any other prior run-ins with law When I was first married, my wife and I got into an enormous fight one night. My father was one of those guys that yelled and yelled so I tend to like to remove myself from those types of situations. Just my auto-response. As I was trying to remove myself, my wife got increasingly angry and kept grabbing me saying, "Don't you dare walk away from me while I'm talking to you." Finally, she grabbed me so hard that she pulled me down to the ground as I was walking away, causing me to hit my head on the way down. Never in my life have I felt the type of blood boiling rage that I felt at that moment. I put my fist through the wall right after that. Not once did it ever cross my mind to strike her, of course, but someone with lesser control might have. I don't know if Dunn's situation was remotely close to mine. It doesn't make it okay, no matter what happened. But I do know that when my wife later told my parents that I put my fist through a wall that night, everyone assumed that *I* had the anger problem. That frustrates me to this day as I have never in my life done anything like that before or after and also because I was trying to get away from the situation when it occurred and was, quite literally, dragged back into it. At the end of the day, no one will know the real story and, without knowing what really happened and why, it's difficult to determine what the punishment should be. However, we all can agree that, regardless of circumstances, there should be one.

  18. I wish this hire had worked. I hate that so many things seem to have bounced the wrong way, this season. I feel like a 100% healthy team is probably 4-2 at this point.

  22. I actually like having you around. I know alot of people rag on you, but it's nice to see what a knowledgable SMU fan thinks of our class. I hope you stick around. You seem really connected to the local AAU circuit, so I hope to hear alot more from you in the coming month. We've got alot more targets & schollies!

  26. He was given the chance to win 7 games. So until that becomes impossible - you don't fire him. Now a week from now this conversation might be more legitimate, but mathematically it's still possible for him to save his job.

  29. "There aren't a lot of good feelings for the once bowl-bound Mean Green, who are staring down the barrel of a sixth consecutive season of nine or more losses." This. This. This is why ANYONE who thinks we dont need a change at the top of this football program should adjust their bib and headgear. Really, read it again and let it sink in.

  32. You hit the nail in the head. Putting SMU down from a local rival standpoint is great and all but when you diss them without properly thinking then that is just simply moronic and you're no different than that douch hoopmanx. 19K for a school of that size even with no other DFW games is still great at this point in the program. This is just the second season in which SMU is seeing some quality football again. Give it time and they will reach the top 25. As for JJ leaving...that could be but if that happens then SMU will still have a great budget to bring in another great coach so anybody that thinks SMU isn't here to stay is dead wrong.

  38. Man, please. Please give this a rest. They played well this week, but please. Oh, they'd be scoring 40 points--maybe, and giving up 45 on a last second collapse or fumble return for a touchdown. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. *Makes David Byrne chopping motion down arm.* I agree that the offense has been shelled by injury. That's obvious. But the Rice game is what it was--a true barometer of what this team was going to be--a team that could score some points, but shoot itself in the foot with penalties and defensive and special teams collapses and mistakes more often than not. Your post has one basic premise that I agree with--recruiting has been deficient to compete week in and week out in the SBC on defense.

  39. When I say that Dodge is a class act - I am only referring to his comments about the school and the fans. It is a direct contradiction to our last two head coaches that went out with guns a blazing. Nothing more, nothing less. If you can find a comment that Dodge has made to the press where he spoke badly of the school, the opportunity, the fans, or of the administration - I might reconsider my stance. I have yet to see one. I really don't want hearsay - anything about a friend or some distant relative happened to know someone that Dodge wronged any comments resembling "my sister's cousin's best friend's mom heard that his uncle heard that Ferris was going to donate his eyes to Stevie Wonder type of comment" - I would like to see something in print, where he put down his school (any of the schools that he has been at) - or their fans - or the other coaches - or the players - or the administration. If you can show me an example of this, I would rethink my stance. But as far as I am concerned - he is a fine ambassador for the program, even if he can't fight his way out of a paper bag.

  40. In the emails between myself and the athletic department, it was suggested (by an AD higher-up) that this be held at the Coliseum so guests can watch the team practice after breakfast. I hope we are able to put this together for you guys.

  42. Dodge isn't going back to high school. He'll have no problem getting a job as an assistant somewhere in FBS, if he wants. Despite his poor showing as a head coach, others in the professional still think well enough of him. He's got something; he just vastly misjudged the differences in the way you run a high school team and a college team. He'd be fine coaching a smaller group of players at this level.

  43. This is news to me. Mostly because it isn't true.

  44. Unfortunately Coach Dodge will not be back but he has cleaned up the program. Whomever RV hires I hope will be able to win and recruit quality athletes. If whomever is selected and can put 7 to 8 wins a year he will have a good career at NT until he decides to retire or move on. However, with all that said I am still behind both the coaches and players as I would like nothing better than the team to win the remainder of their games this year. GMG

  45. I think this post could go one of two ways. Are talking about stopping Dodge or this type of post? I don't think Dodge will be fired at midseason. It probably should happen, but I don't think anyone in this admin or enough of the fans around here have the stones to do it.
