  1. From Fox News, so I can't speak for it's validity: "OBAMA ISN'T THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO MISS THE CEREMONY. RONALD REAGAN SPOKE AT WEST POINT ONE YEAR AND WENT TO HIS CALIFORNIA RANCH ANOTHER. GEORGE H.W. BUSH DIDN'T GO AT ALL...AND GEORGE W. BUSH DIDN'T GO HIS FIRST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE." You're right Rudy it's pretty sorry. GHWBush didn't go at all, he sent Quayle who used his family's influence to get out of service. W. sent Cheney. Hell, Cheney should have laid 5 wreaths. One for every deferment he got. Obama is going to a service at a national cemetery. It's just in Illinois.

  2. Seems to me that the prognosticators have been spot on the past few years. I honestly see NOTHING to indicate this team will be any better than last year. Too many new elements, too few successes to build on. Of course, come late August I will be anxious to see it on the field. Right now, it's too early to drink the kool-aid.

  3. As we pause at 3:00pm for a moment of memory of those brave men & women who gave up their tomorrows so that we have our freedom do not forget those veterans who bare the scars and survived the wars. The next time you see either a veteran or one serving in the military tell them thanks for their service. As you can see by the post by eulesismoore there are many families who have had some one pay the ultimate price for this great nation, the United States of America.

  4. If you have the day off as I do, enjoy it. Just remember, it's the sacrifices of others who made it all possible. The one our family remembers: Lawrence Garrison, a beloved uncle, who died before I was born, on an amphibious landing of the Pacific Island Tarawa by the Marines in WWII. Recently a letter was found to the family, written on Christmas just before that landing; that is a precious heirloom. As it was read to me by my older sister, I just thought how much I wish I had known him. I find it interesting to read his bio, and to look at the history of that battle on this site: Hi

  8. lindy's has us 8th in belt, as does sporting news. athlon ranks us 7th, with a a projected 2&10 record. a number of you are predicting us at 6&6 or 7&5. what do you know that people who do this for a living don't? just asking.

  9. By the way.... in the tradition of Memorial Day, and more important than the Obama "disrespect" or whatever... I went and played some golf today and shot a personal best 92 on a pretty hard course! btw... I do suck at golf, but I appear to be getting better thanks to a new (new to me) set of Taylor Made RAC irons and wedges!

  10. And Reagan? Hell, Reagan showed so much disrespect he didn't even send GHWB. He sent the under secrty of the defense (or some such person). BTW, Obama went to a Nat'l. cemetery. He paid respect, just not at Arlington. But don't let that get in the way of your hate.

  11. I actually didn't use any examples. I used the FOX News version of the story, which also included Reagan. In the story that ran no other presidents were mentioned. It's not about party affiliation (I haven't voted for a democratic president in 20 years) it's about hypocrisy. I just don't remember this phony outrage when other presidents did the exact same thing. The last 3 presidents to do this just happened to be repubs.

  14. I have no doubt Riley will play a big role this season, will ad a few wrinkles and prove he's still a vital contributor...but let's tap the brakes on "best athlete on this team". This team WILL win this season, but it will be because of things like getting plays called without calling a timeout, receivers who can stretch the field and QB's who can get it there, legit size on the lines, and the use of tight ends and multiple looks...not because a kid with above average speed is in the slot. Gee, how many fast slot receivers do you think defensive coordinators have seen and game planned for?

  15. Everyone should really go back and look at their own predictions for last year and compare them to what they are predicting this year. I tend to give more credence to the predictions by people who are emotionally removed from the program. I love George D., but he is obviously emotionally invested in UNT (thank God).

  16. Qualifying round for the nationals was this last weekend in Austin. I worked the event and was happy to see so many NT participants. Here's the story from: MeanGreenSports. We had a few qualify for Nationals but I don't remember who. Whatever the guys at A&M and Oregon are doing is paying off. Those two schools (and BYU as well) seemed to win or be in contention for every event. The highlite of the event was the mullet wearing, discus throwing freshman from TTech. I can't find a pic of the guy from the event, but here's his bio: Julian Wruck. As funny as that hair cut is,

  17. no. it is past time we join the modern era of football facilities. how could anyone take our program serious at fouts?

  18. . Emmitt is right but I think that there are two reasons for that. The first is that prior to last year there was no established goal to justify increased prices. A shiny new stadium is justification for a price increase. The other reason is the teams that we play. We can't (and shouldn't) charge $50 to see a Sun Belt Conference game. The same should be true in the new stadium. Now if we up the ante for an AQ team or even an upper-level non-AQ team that's another story. I would hope that our fans understand that.

  20. Sometimes these "forecasters" take prior performance and use it as a indicator for future success. We see the new OC, the new recruits and improvement from last year... They see 5-31 over 3 years. What do you expect them to say? This is a show me world, hardly anyone outside of the Mean Green faithful are going to give us a snow ball's chance in Hell of doin anything this year. Besides, what fun is it to go into the year with a negative attitude?

  21. I guess that San Jose and Idaho have raised their budgets along with a lotof MAC schools. This is my concern about the Belt. Most of you probably know that I have been a Belt fan from Day 1. The apparent lack of resources/desire to commit for excellence is my concern. If we are not getting better, we are stagnant. If we are not spending money, we are not going to get better. 4 or 5 schools in the Belt are spending the money to be competitve (somewhat) - the rest are drastically underfunded. I am really considering the WAC invite, hopefully it is still a standing invite.

  22. It's all pretty much politics. I do think that because Pres. Obama did not serve in the military, there is a hyper-sensitivity to how he treats the military. Bill Clinton understood this, and was at Arlington 8 years in a row. Pres. Obama either doesn't understand this, or he doesn't care. Either way, pretty politically foolish. But the whole issue is about politics.

  23. During our time in the Big West - it included about half the schools that are currently in the WAC. Just about all our programs competed terribly in the league and our attendance/support was God awful. Seriously, I think anyone who remembers the Big West would be very hesitant about joining the current WAC.

  27. the team has poor history and that trumps everything else until proven otherwise to these magazines. one thing this team has this year is a lot of returning experience. the main thing it does not have is winning experience and confidence. i want to believe we will be better but i do not see wins over most of the scheduled teams. 4-8 maybe.

  28. I said 3 wins before the season last year and people told me that I sucked! I'll say 4 wins this year. I really don't like starting out @ Clemson. We were a decent team last year until we went into Bama. Any confidence we may of had was thrown out the door and this team never recovered

  29. I really don't put much stock in many of the publications other than Phil Steele and Campbell's. The other publications really don't know crap about the Belt. This is not to say I think NT is going to win 6 or 7, I hope they do, but as it was said earlier, there are just too many unknowns for me right now. I could see it going either way at this point, I am not jumping off the cliff yet, but I am not predicting a bowl game either

  33. Anything is better than this dying sun suck conference. For the life of me I can't understand why ANYONE would be against a conference jump. Budget...that's going to be changing soon. Travel...we don't travel well as it is because no one wants to see us play these sucky schools that no one cares about. So what if BSU leaves the WAC...it's still light years ahead of what we are currently in. Their members are better recognized schools, they play better against named opponents, and they have a better opportunity to jump into a better conference in time. Lets face it...if getting into a better co

  34. If Boise were to leave the WAC, and they were the only team to leave, I would still be in favor of joining the WAC. By leaving Boise will prove that dominating that league and winning impressive ooc games is a magic formual for advancing in the college football world. We won 4 straight conference titles in the Belt, and most people still didn't care. We won 26 straight conference games in that span. We were never able to put up impressive ooc wins like Boise, but most of those ooc schedules weren't intended to be wins. They were money games. Troy has won 4 straight titles now, and the

  36. I am getting there, too. If we were to say no - the WAC really has no other choie but to offer an invitation to a school that is ready to move up - Texas State at San Marcos... or a school that promises to move up, UTSA... or BOTH. How would we all feel about the Belt if the two upstarts in Texas were now in the WAC and we were still in the Belt? We have to show separation from them. Agreed about the budget problems of the Belt. If we do stick with the Belt, the schools need to make a commitment to athletic success, monetarily. NT, WKY, USA, Troy, MTSU, UL, and the F_U's have all put t

  40. No, if you served your country, you get a pass. Pres. Clinton and Pres. Obama didn't. Clinton undeerstood this and was there every year. Pres. Obama either doesn't understand this or doesn't care. Really not a big deal, other than to show his lack of understanding/doesn't care attitude about the current political landscape. Interesting that you use the 2 Bush Presidents when there were others available for example. Interesting again that everything has to be in republican or democrat terms with you.
