  1. 1. If you are counting on other teams to fill your stadium then you are SMU. 2. Wyoming is a very good team and a measuring stick for where we are as a program. They were 9-4 last year! 3. You need to beat upper-level Mid-majors if you want to start establishing a foundation to build on.

  2. Congrats to long time UNT supporter and fan Rick McKinney (BBA '90) on his retirement after 30-years of public service with the Fort Worth fire department. Thank you Rick for your many contributions UNT athletics and the community. Go Mean Green!

  3. Hello all, Just wanted to share my gratitude for the hospitality. Denton is a great spot, loved seeing Dallas (first time), and really appreciate the dedication to your team. I hope other cal fans were gracious. I hope for both of our sakes both of these teams overperform for the rest of the season. Will be rooting for NT in the AAC.

  5. Man, y'all hit my sentiment just right. These guys don't realize this is our school. We went here. We love this place. This isn't a job that we're holding until a better opportunity presents itself. None of us are waiting to be promoted to Texas fans. Stop b*tching about receipts like your seat at UNT on day 1 is so hot. Do your job and make our school proud.

  6. We have been worried about student turnout with just moving across the street. Going completely off campus seems like a big red flag. Plus again you have to share the space and don't have complete control of the facility.

  10. The Mean Green Baseball Project would like to wish the U.N.T. football team the best of luck this weekend in their season opener and also in their 2023 season. In a show of support we have purchased 20 season tickets per home football game which we are donating to different kids groups each game. The athletic department was very upfront with us when we met with them in that the football team does not get the support they need with season ticket sales and we are doing our part to help out. meangreenbaseball.com #Bring It Back! 12. I attended the Irving Schools Foundation "Breakfast with the Stars" this morning at the Irving Convention Center, which was emceed by Cynthia. This event awarded 253 seniors with scholarships in front of aproximately 1,000 people. Corporate sponsors, business and civic leaders were all present in the audience. Cynthia, in her opening remarks, of course mentioned she was a proud UNT graduate, but this year also made it a point to mention that the Mean Green were the NIT Baskeball Champions. When announcing winners and where they were going to school, she put special empahsis on UNT and always followed it with a "Go Mean Green." She always touts UNT but I was glad to hear the NIT Championship mentioned. It never hurts for students, heads of corporations, civic leaders, and the public at large to hear the accomplishments of UNT from such a visible alum. By the way, she does an excellent job as a emcee for an event that lasts about 4 hours. Live snipits on the news at 5, 6, and 10 on Channel 8 although I don't think the UNT statements are included! Just wanted to share how the NIT Championship is worth a lot in publicity in different types of settings as well as hopefully recruiting. Thank you, Cynthia, and GMG!

  16. …..Seth Littrell would’ve lost this game by 30. He still has a lot to learn as a young HC, but he has cajones. This team has gotten better every week and I’d put Rogers as one of, if not the best QB in the conference right now. These guys are clearly buying in and it shows. I’m not guaranteeing a win in the next three games but I damn sure have a lot more hope than I did after FIU. We could easily be 6-1 right now if Rogers starts the whole season. Defense is making big stops, and Morris is aggressive as hell with an explosive offense. I like our chances the rest of the way.

  17. Listen, this University, the students and the alumni did not support Coach McCasland in a way he deserved. He deserved so much more. We were very fortunate to have him at North Texas for as long as we did. Now let’s get behind Coach Hodge and give him the support and backing this coaching staff deserves.

  18. One of the things I have hated for YEARS, and discussed with other fans, is that we have a “tradition” of: - Hyping up big games, and - Having a chance to really make a statement, and - Pulling in big crowds, and - Crapping the bed Last night we had a great atmosphere, showed everyone a great game…and WON! That is huge because that is how you turn people who are just there for the novelty into people who want to come back consistently. The group sitting behind me commented several times “this is really fun” and “I didn’t know North Texas games were like this.” THAT is how you build a lasting fanbase.

  19. What a difference a week makes. Congratulations to Coach Morris on his first victory as the leader of our Mean Green! It was nice to see that the staff made adjustments. The defense came out in a 4 man front a few times and they didn't give up a first down until the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter. We gave up 432 yards this week, which is a 16% improvement from last week. On offense, we had 47 rushes for 249 yards and 41 (25 completions) passes for 313 yards. We produced a total of 562 yards. We had 1 fumble (screenshot updated). The team had 9 penalties for 115 yards tonight. I am sure there will be a big emphasis on this during the next two weeks. Regardless, we won last night. GMG! Observations: Chandler Rogers was efficient and made plays last night. He had a great command of the offense and did a fantastic job throwing the ball. He completed around 60% of his passes (24-41) for 313 yards and 2 TDs. Additionally, he ran for 45 yards. It seemed most of his runs were for first downs when the pocket broke down. Overall, he was very impressive! Roderic Burns was great all night as well. He was open all night and made several big plays for us. He has 11 receptions for 134 yards. Also, shoutout to Ja'Mori Maclin and Damon Ward they caught both of Chandler's touchdown passes. Ayo Adeyi the La Tech killer had a hell of a game. He had several big runs for us last night. It seems he always does well against La Tech. I was excited to see him step up tonight. He ended up rushing for 148 yards and 2 TDs. Also, shoutout to Oscar Adaway who had 44 yards rushing tonight. He had multiple tough runs that set up first downs for us. Shout out to Noah Rauschenberg and Sawyer Evans tonight. If Pat McAfee watched our game film, I am sure he would be excited to watch these 2 guys. Noah drilled a 25, 22, 48 and 31 yard field goal (game winner). Sawyer Evans had a 64 yard punt that pinned La Tech deep. The defense played much better tonight. They gave up 82 yards less this week, caused multiple 3 and outs, and also had a few big stops on 4th down. I was encouraged to see the coaches make adjustments and play us in the 4 man front on some drives. Shoutout to Mazin "Amazing" Richards who had 5 tackles, 3 for loss, and 1 sack. It was nice to see him blitzing from the edge again. Rod Brown had 3 QB hurries tonight. He did a great job on the 4th down stop late in the game as well. Kevin Wood was our leading tackler with 9 total (7 solo). Logan Wilson was solid in coverage and had 8 tackles (6 solo) tonight. The 2 redshirt freshman Patrick Smith and Ethan Wesloski continue to have big games for us. Patrick had 7 tackles (2 solo) and Ethan had 6 tackles (3 solo). They both did great jobs making tackles in space. Bryce Linder also had 6 tackles (3 solo). It was nice to see the defense respond to the adversity they have faced the last 2 weeks. I hope we continue to improve each week and add more wins. GMG!

  21. So as hot as it was yesterday at the Cal game, I felt like it may not have been in the top 5 hottest UNT games in the last 20 plus years. I got there around 10:30 and there was some decent cloud cover most of the day, even a light breeze to boot. If you were lucky enough to be on the alumni side it was almost pleasant at times, especially in the second half. The hottest UNT football games I can recall were Baylor at home in 2003 (the game away in Waco was also hot in 2004) and another one was our first home game against Rice in Fouts Field September 11, 2010. The Baylor home game was notorious as the UNT concessions ran out of bottled water in the second half. Cal game GMG tailgate (9.2.23), Jase Earle, Mike Randle, JD Davis and Head Coach Ross Hodge The announced home crowd was 21,350 for Cal and that seemed about right. I thought the alumni section looked decent and the students were a little light. The 3pm start time is tough. On the postgame show, Hank lead into the Coach Morris interview by saying that playing a P5 to open the season could go wrong and thus was a risky proposition for a program like UNT. I disagree with that. The program absolutely should be able to take on a quality opponent to start the season and the performance in these types of games should be held to a very high standard. These pay for win games against lessor competition give us no idea where we stand and worse a false sense of security, Among the many visitors that came by Tony’s GoMeanGreen.com tailgate on Saturday, we were especially pleased to welcome Head UNT basketball Coach Ross Hodge, along with assistant Jace Herl and 4 mainstays on the 2023 NIT Tournament Championship team, Aaron Scott, Moulaye Sissoko, Rubin Jones and Matthew Stone. What a great group of young men we have here. They took pictures and hung out with the fans and watched the end of the TCU Colorado game (which was a barnburner). Intelligent and well-spoken, these kids are great athletes but even better people. If there is any consistent theme coming out of the absolute drubbing UNT received from the Bears on Saturday, it is that in this new era, the portal, and teams like Colorado and yes Texas State figured it out faster than many others. It’s not that UNT was not using the portal as best they could, but Colorado and Texas State took it to a whole new level. They were landing top notch P5 transfers in big numbers, which computes for Neon Deon and his Colorado program which is heading to the Big 12. In fact, there is irony in the fact he beat one of the very best at playing the transfer portal and NIL in the past few years in Sonny Dykes who landed the TCU job primarily because of his portal and transfer work at SMU. The bad news is that Texas State does not have the resources that North Texas does, and they were able to make it happen anyway. As much as I would love to focus primarily on high school players, the NIL combined with the transfer portal have diminished those opportunities. You don’t have 4-5 years to build a program anymore. And Texas State head coach GJ Kinne is the real deal. GoMeanGreen.com has a new team of contributors who will be assisting in covering the team this year, the one and only JD Davis is back covering recruiting and everything else with UNT sports as he does so very well including articles, podcasts, social media, and the kitchen sink. We are welcoming back our good friend Lorenzo Robles, who will also be assisting us with his excellent content as well as his computer expertise and great photography. A new face is Miles Meador who is actual a current UNT student, and big UNT fan who will be our man on the ground in Denton and will be covering the team and taking photos and video as well as giving us the student perspective. DC Matt Caponi (Courtesy UNT Athletics) The reality is you cannot run the 3-3-5 defense without athletes. And right now, we don’t have enough of them. And that was the worst tackling technique I have ever seen. Defensive Coordinator Matt Caponi has his hands full this season. On a positive note, I think our secondary is pretty good. But what does it say when your leading tackler in the Cal game (9) is Jaylen Smith, a walk-on from Hamilton, Ontario? Early line for the roadie against FIU in Miami is -14. FIU barely beat Maine 14-12. Looking at the schedule, this may be one of the best chances to grab a win early on and the second half of the season is looking frightful with SMU, Tulane, Memphis and yes even UTSA in a close loss to UofH will be very difficult games to win. Morris really needs his first road win at UNT in a big way this week. And as always, Go Mean Green!

  22. The American Athletic Conference (The American) held its 2023 Football Media Days on Monday and Tuesday, July 24-25 at Live! By Loews Arlington Texas. The in-person event served as a celebration of The American's 10th anniversary and will be the first formal event under the league's new 14-team configuration. The Mean Green Report was there on both days and here is a summary of our observations of what we thought was a successful event. Having attended many of these events in the past, I was impressed with the setting at Live! By Loews. It is nestled smack dab in the middle of AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and the Esports Stadium and Expo Center. We had a fun lunch at the Troy sport bar named after the Cowboys star QB and there were many other restaurants and bars to choose from. The facilities inside the hotel were top notch and the American support staff was extremely accommodating and supportive throughout the event. There was a lot of interesting imagery to take in as a first-time participant. All the past UNT media kickoff events whether it be C-USA or heck even the Sun Belt were fun and interesting in their own way but this one just stepped it up a notch. Live By Loews is a nice facility that has a backdrop of Jerry World through its glass walls that is hard to ignore. The event itself had a more legitimate air about it, whether it was the sport coats and neat appearance of the AAC staff, or the updated media guides available in plentiful supply. There was just a positive and service-oriented mood that was flowing on both days that made you glad to be there. In terms of visuals, it was a delight. Seeing SMU players in their jerseys and coaches wandering around was cool. Running into new FAU leader Tom Herman in the bathroom adjusting his tie. Seeing the excitement of the team representatives as they made their way through the busy radio and podcast sections doing their interviews and posing for pictures. Hearing media and sportswriters discuss who was going to have a good season and who was their dark horse team to surprise. Commissioner Mike Aresco just continues to impress me as a thoughtful and enthusiastic leader who is not just going through the motions. Compare that to when we joined the C-USA back in 2013 and it felt like Britton Banowsky was going through the motions (in hindsight he was as he would exit stage left just two years after in 2015). Aresco’s main soliloquy was in three parts: 1 – The American had defied the odds and is now "every bit a power conference" and that the P5-G5 perceived separation from the media and the power conferences is "manufactured." He spent a good amount of time on Tulane and their remarkable comeback bowl win against USC as a recent example of the success the conference is capable of on a national stage. 2- The six new teams entering the conference are all excellent additions who will bring a lot of success to the conference and the remaining teams are excellent as well. The 14-team format and six new teams will allow for some fun rivalries to develop as well as opportunities to win games against the upper echelon of programs. 3 – The NIL and Portal, while in some ways is problematic, it just needs to be adjusted to better serve the needs of the student athletes but also promote fair competition amongst all the NCAA teams. My view is that Aresco is a good counter puncher and his desire to do away with the labels that have haunted non flagship or blue blood programs is right on target. And there is a lot of truth in that. The Power 5 versus Group of Five was a label that was perpetuated by the media. And it is not accurate anymore as the expansion to the 12-team playoff will provide a lot more opportunity for programs in the future. Now to close, I would like to give my impressions of each of the 14 American head football coaches and their respective speeches and responses to media Q&A. Brian Newberry, Navy: Taller, quiet guy that seemed sincere and proud of his team. He explained that NIL and portal were not really factors for them and somewhat of an advantage in that they did not have to deal with many of those battles. The type of players they were recruiting were looking at the bigger picture in terms of a career and commitment well after their football days were behind them. He has some work to do revamping his roster so it will be interesting to see how he plans out there. Stan Drayton, Temple: Definitely one of the more personable coaches of the day and he was very engaging and interacting with the media. He lightened things up after a dry opening from the Navy HC. He has only been there a year so still trying to get more of his type of players in the program and having success. Temple is one of the few AAC teams who were able to win the conference in the last decade so he should have a decent chance to win some games there. Biff Poggi, Charlotte: Very interesting guy, big and broad shouldered, you could tell he was staying in his shell and being more composed in his first year. I am betting he may be one of the most entertaining coaches in the AAC as time goes on. He was an exceptionally good salesperson in Charlotte, the city in terms of it being home to the US banking community and that their NIL will be able to take advantage of that in time. He did not get a ton of questions and slammed his hand down on the podium at the end jokingly saying after they win some games this year there will be more interest. Ryan Silverfield, Memphis: Liked him, he was one of the better speakers overall. Interestingly he along with a few other AAC coaches never played college football himself and came up at Memphis under Mike Norvell. It sounded like they lost a few to the portal and NIL but also added a lot of fresh faces and he seemed optimistic about the team and of what they were capable. Tom Herman, Florida Atlantic: One of the highlights of the event for me, Herman is not afraid to put himself out there and is just always an entertaining speaker. He said he is having fun again at FAU and that he locked up the locker room for a few days to wash away the 5-7 record and put last season’s dramatic drop from grace behind him. One writer made the mistake of asking him how it felt to be back in Texas again, to which Herman replied that it was just another state, town etc. He then joked about trying to get Commissioner Aresco to move it to Miami or better yet Boca Raton next year. Herman did reveal his transfer QB Casey Thompson had shoulder surgery but expected him to be in a battle for the QB spot with two others. Herman said he totally supported the NIL and players making money but felt it should be based on their own accomplishments and not on phony jobs and artificial tasks. Trent Dilfer, UAB: I thought Dilfer was one of the most entertaining coaches out there today. As a reminder, this guy won a Superbowl for the Ravens as QB worked for ESPN as a broadcaster and has had a truly remarkable career. A writer asked him if he worried about what other college coaches thought about him not following the traditional path to becoming a head coach in college. He said he did not care about what any other coach or administrator thought about him. He only cared about his players and that he gave them everything he had. The guy obviously does not need the money and he said it was his wife that pushed him out of high school coach because he needed a new mountain to climb up. I could not help but think of other players with such notoriety as Clyde Drexler who crashed and burned but also guys like Jim Harbaugh who were able to make it work. Dilfer will be a lot of fun to watch regardless of what happens because he is not trying to move up the coaching food chain like the typical college coach is. Mike Houston, East Carolina: Seemed like a good fit for East Carolina and you could not help but be impressed with their record last year (8-5) and defeating Coastal Carolina in a bowl. Houston is the opposite of Dilfer in he came up the ranks from high school, small college and then FCS powerhouse James Madison where he notched two consecutive 14-win seasons. Jeff Traylor, UTSA: Traylor sported the Roadrunner Hat with the Armani suit and was his usual charming East Texas self. He heaped a ton of praise on Tulane coach Willie Fritz as well as the other coaches in the league. He spoke a lot about talented QB Frank Harris and how lucky he (Traylor) was to have him. Despite being one of the favorites in the AAC, Traylor reminded the crowd that UTSA had won a lot of close games in the past few seasons. Alex Golesh, South Florida: Very young. Pretty well spoken and focused a lot on changing the culture at USF. Someone told me he was smoking a cigar after the presentations, but that he was not confirmed. I will say this, USF was at one time a particularly good football program and they had a ton of talent down there to build with so he could surprise us all. Willie Fritz, Tulane: Seemed to garner the most respect from the other coaches. Softer spoken than I remembered. His voice has a whispery quality to it. Just a damn winner and you can tell he is building something extremely special down there. He did point out that last year the ball bounced their way a lot (12-2) and a similar team the year before lost ten games. Fritz said last year on media day they were picked to be 7th so that may bode well for UNT. Kevin Wilson, Tulsa: Pretty straightforward and to the point guy. Seems like more of a technician. Said NIL had helped and hurt them which I thought was honest. He did give big time praise to QB Braylon Braxton from Frisco who he said could be a talented player in any conference. Mike Bloomgren, Rice: Seemed like the typically smart Rice type of personality. Sounds like he landed a big time QB with JT Daniels who could surprise the league. Eric Morris, North Texas: Morris was great, and I love how he can make fun of himself and how it disarms his audience. He had by far the most questions from the media and there were more, but the AAC staff had to keep the agenda moving. They spoke of his relationship with Mike Leach, and while he did not name Patrick Mahomes, he did say that he had developed some exceptionally good QB’s in his time in coaching. He talked about how he and his staff were trying to get into the Denton community and build relationships. He heaped praise on the two UNT player reps in attendance Mazin Richards and Jet Duncan. He spun the NIL and portal in a positive way, talking about how Richards developed later and was able to transfer to UNT and become a first team all-conference player. He also mentioned how he had a good handle on the make-up of the UNT team and roster as he was friends with Seth Littrell who was his coach at Texas Tech. Rhett Lashlee, SMU: So, as you know, I am a UNT fan, and I do not care a lot about SMU. With that stated it is hard not to be impressed with Coach Lashley. He looks and dresses the part, and he is well spoken. He conveys the strengths of SMU very well, stating that SMU is in one of the top business cities in the country and that once you graduate with a degree from there you are set for life. He talked about how SMU has been building up to this point and he was excited about all the additions the coaching staff had made through high school and the portal / NIL. There was an air of confidence around him not just about the upcoming season but the future of SMU. He did not take the bait on a question pertaining to SMU being an addition to the PAC 10, but he also made it truly clear that NIL was opening a tremendous opportunity for them to get the program back to the days of The Pony Express. Editor’s note: Last note and I will let you go. I am pleased to announce that GoMeanGreen.com is working on a new premium service that we will be rolling out soon. Some of you may recall a project we did in the past called “The Eagle Eye” and it will be like that but with a new name. I will provide more details on this project later but suffice it to say that the GoMeanGreen.com you know, and love will not be changing, and we are just adding some additional premium content and features for those who are interested in that sort of stuff. I want to be clear that has not been and there will not be any service like this out there covering UNT sports. I would not be doing it unless I believed we could be the best. There have been some news items and things in the past we did not feel comfortable talking in public and this service will give us the ability to do that in a more secure way. The amount of recruiting coverage and inside information we will be providing will be unparalleled. We are excited about this project and will be sharing more information on it very soon. Until then, and as always – Go Mean Green! Harry Miers ‘90 View full article

  23. I’m super excited to announce that I will be an adjunct professor in the North Texas Criminal Justice Department, beginning this Fall. I’ll be teaching a Student Police Academy course that I created for the purpose of giving CJUS students an opportunity to learn exactly what a police job entails (including giving them the opportunity to undergo simulated job interview boards and calls for service). This program exists no place else that I know of and will give our North Texas grads a leg up as they look to begin their careers.

  25. Honestly, this is exactly the type of transfer we should be going after. Redshirt freshman who's spent 2 seasons in a P5 strength and conditioning program. He has P5 size, something we lack, and he'll use his free transfer to come in. We can have him for 3 seasons before he can leave again (unless be wants to sit out a season). He's also from DFW so this is coming home for him. If you're not excited by this commitment, you're just looking for reasons to be negative.

  26. Practice Report from Friday 8/11/2023 Two quotes that stood out from my post practice interview with Coach Eric Morris were ‘Iron Sharpens Iron” and “Right now, our first level of guys is pretty damn competitive even going into the new conference.” Offensive Line Coach Morris spoke very highly of the UNT offensive line. “Our #1 offensive line is so far ahead of our #2.” The unit returns 80% of the starters from last year. The first team unit on O-line was LT 77 Kaci Moreka LG 65 Gabe Blair C 78 Daizon Carroll RG 64 Jett Duncan and RT Febechi Nwaiwu. It is clearly a strength of the team, but they are trying to develop depth at the position as the camp unfolds. Quarterback Race In my opinion the QB position is wide open now. I have always thought it would be Rogers. But now I really don’t know now. It is not that Rogers is playing badly. I just think Earle and Ruder have both improved so much and have addressed a couple of issues that held them back in the past. It will be interesting to see how this battle plays out. Coach Morris had originally stated a starter would be named after the first scrimmage. That doesn’t sound likely now. All three QBs took equal reps with the 1st team. Freshman Defensive Backs North Texas signed 5 HS Defensive backs for this class. Evan Jackson, Taylor Starling, Kollin Lewis, Jayven Anderson, and Brian Nelson. It looks like all 5 are going to be players. Each one has impressed the coaching staff so far in camp. With John Davis and Ridge Texada locked in as starting Cornerbacks it looks like there will be a dogfight for the backup spots. I am not sure any of the 5 will start right away. If they stay healthy, I can guarantee they will all see the field this year and contribute, even if that is on special teams.

  30. Congratulations to the team, students and administration for creating a major league crowd and outcome last night...it was thrilling for me, as I am a veteran of the old days at the old pit (men's gym) of the 60's. You created just as much excitement and atmosphere as the old days...thanks.

  32. * I pull for one school, and all of its teams. The only professional sport I watch is golf. There are no Ranger, Stars, Mavs or Cowboys wins to salvage a weekend. North Texas is it. I invest a lot of emotional capital, along with a few bucks, in my passion, my hobby. * Pretty sure there is not a single player, coach or athletic department employee who has been here as long as I have. The school and the name last, no human does. I pull for the school and the name. Everyone else is temporary. I deeply care about this school, and its most passionate and long(er) time fans, like Gray Eagle, SUMG, FFR, et al. * The three hours before the game, tailgating, do salvage some of the mood swing I get from a loss, any loss, but especially losses like Saturday. Yesterday, it was gumbo, cornbread, pre-game Scotch (Laphroaig this time), pre-game pickle and some really great family, including my son who has never missed a home game in his 27 years, and friends. Thanks also to @Pete Hadley for the nice welcome and parting gift, @malonebbqsauce. Maybe I need more Scotch next game. * I try to wait 24 hours after a loss before paying much attention to gomeangreen.com. It is always nice to see how moods change from ground zero over the next 24-48 hours. * I am a loud, often sarcastic fan. I yell when we win, and when we lose. I don't yell against players. Almost every fan that was sitting in my seats before I got there, and who we have to negotiate with to get the seats we paid for, abandons the general area I am sitting in well before the game ends, usually before the half. If you are planning to study at the game, you will probably move also. * The 2Q Earle to Maclin bomb was thing of beauty. Seems like the ball was in the air for 23 seconds and Maclin ran to that ball like few could. I was almost drowned out by the other fans in Sections 109 and 110. * @aztecskin, MGN now on Substack, put things in perspective. If North Texas didn't come out in the second half, we would have scored the exact number of points and gained 9 less yards. @Venson suggested, and I concur: start Stone, put in Ruder if needed. If he doesn't emerge, Stone should be the starter for the rest of the year. * I gripe about the petty when the play on the field puts me in a bad mood. Petty like the much-hyped water stations. No one, security, other vendors, etc, knew where they were. When I spent about half of the third quarter looking for them, I found one that was empty and one other. On the way, I tried three water fountain stations. One worked. Petty like giving a decent amount of money to the program and buying approximately 80 football tickets a year for the games (48 of them season tickets) and having to pay $15 to print my tickets. Petty (not) like having to ask people to get out of my seats for something like the 70th straight game....every game since the stadium opened. Three different ADs have heard my complaint now, along numerous other department employees, including the 3 or 4 humans over the last decade or so that have invited me to breakfast once a year. Question for athletic department: will you print my tickets if I buy the breakfast next time another human? * All that said, after dropping by gmg.com this afternoon, I come to one conclusion: I suspect no other group of college fans demands more and gives less. We get what we pay for. You lads and lasses still need some venting, it appears. Flame away. GMG

  33. People were giving you grief because you said the conference was going to give the win 'back' to ECU because of the missed call...

  34. Mac as in Coach McCarney? The last coach to get us a bowl win? That Mac? Yes, his tenure ended horribly but he also led some great teams and he truly cared about the character of his players.

  35. Not an uncommon start time for nationally televised games... TX/OU is at 11 am almost every year and none of them complain that it's too early. USC/Colorado was at 10 am local time this past Saturday. Come on, now.

  39. In every way, this is a very well deserved promotion. He will do great things at UNT and I expect nothing less than more championships!

  40. Speaking of.. well played, Jared Mosley! The man was promoted to AD less than four months ago and has already had to: - Find/hire Eric Morris & staff under the gun - Diplomatically part ways with UNT WBB great, Jalie Mitchell - Hire Jason Burton as a rock-solid replacement, with a track record of success. - Navigate losing Grant to Tech and have a plan in place to backfill without missing a beat. Ross Hodge is a great promotion from within and keeps this show on the road. The UNT Athletic Department is absolutely killing it right now. Think about it… we’re about to step up to the AAC with 3 new head coaches & a new AD… and there is no worry or wondering if we can compete. We know we can, and we WILL.

  41. Apologies in advance if this is an inappropriate or spammy post, but I wanted to extend an invitation to join the Mean Green Infantry. We are a new, unsponsored group of passionate Mean Green fans dedicated to increasing fan and alumni engagement and raising our profile by coordinating group outings to make our presence felt at away and neutral site games. https://www.facebook.com/groups/meangreeninfantry Last weekend we had over 35 people buy together for the men's basketball game at SMU. We're going even bigger for the last game of the regular season at Rice. So join us! Those group tickets are only $10-30. We're also working on a pregame tailgate. Here's the link to our event page for the Rice game, I'll be making our initial purchase of tickets next week: https://www.facebook.com/share/RQYQAKVGsHKZXjTY/?mibextid=9VsGKo

  42. Harry, a hundred thousand kudos to you and the rest of the collective for an outstanding job of raising the money for the basketball NIL (Men and Women). I'm glad that this was done for basketball because they are the most in need to get the best players and you have to make decent offers or we'll lose ground in one of the best basketball conferences in the NCAA.

  43. I noticed that the football staff has been using the stylized eagle from the Hayden Fry era. It is also referred to as the flying worm. For those of you who don't know this, the art for this was created by North Texas alumns Rick Spears the second year that Hayden was here. Rick was a tremendous North Texas supporter, sports writer and went by greengrenade here on this board. I just wanted to give a shout out to Rick for his unique art that has been spotlighted again by recent coaches shirts and even on the throwback helmets. Rick passed away a few years and and I know is smiling on the recent ascention of NT athletics and their use of his artwork. Thanks Rick for your legacy.

  44. North Texas is less than 50 days away from kicking off a new era of Mean Green Football. There is a combination of newfound energy and a breath of fresh air around Denton. A new coach and jump to a new conference will have that effect on a program. As we get ready to kick off the Eric Morris era and move to the American Conference, the fan support has matched the excitement around the program. According to sources to gomeangreen.com there have been more than 4400 season tickets sold currently. That is an increase of seven hundred tickets more than what they sold last year. With almost 2 months to go that number will only rise. They are in the range of the all- time record for tickets sold. Along with season tickets over 85% have renewed in the HUB Club and suites are trending higher as well. So, with fan excitement and support nearing an all-time high a successful fall could be just the combo North Texas football needs to move the needle and take the program to the next level.
