  1. Good player and contributed a lot to this team. I wish him well!

  3. Without Edwards this year, I speculate NT would have lost about 5 more games. Now we lose the only first team All Conference player and many chime in that he was not that good anyway and we can do better. All those, that think he will be easy to replace and was really a liability; are simply basketball unaware. What many seem to forget is that opponents' defenses were for most part focused on stopping Edwards. This freed up the other players for more good shots. Many predicted this, he is a hired gun and that is the why he is at NT. I think NT will get a good replacement, but I want to thank Edwards for his year of play and wish him the best.

  4. Maybe this means Ruben is coming back. I never felt like they were ever comfortable playing together. Hate to lose his scoring but he also had to have a lot of shots to get those points. Not very efficient. He also struggled in late game situations. Good luck to him and I trust Hodge to get a quality replacement!

  5. Color me underwhelmed in the hire. 15-18 for the 2023-24 season, 105-100 PAC-12 record, and has never won any kind of championship in 11 years in the PAC-12? Sounds more like you did USC a favor.

  6. He only stayed because they didn't actually offer him the job!

  7. I know you love The Office Andrew. Just think of players as Dwight Schrute and you'll be happy. Would I ever leave this company? Look, I'm all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most.

  13. I do hope you’ll throw money at him. See a kid who is a great scorer…fail to see that he isn’t clutch…try to buy your way to success…continue to be an after thought. That would be the most SMU thing ever.

  15. The best thing about having Hodge as a coach was he came from JUCO where they often have massive turnover year to year, which has now become the norm in DI too. I'm sure he was at least partially ready for this scenario.

  16. This one hurts. He is definitely talented. However, his ball handling skills need a lot of work. Often resulted in turnovers or bad possessions.

  18. Looks like coach Andy Enfield is moving up from USC to take the head coaching job at SMU. This is Enfield's third stop as a HC, first at FGCU in the Atlantic Sun (FCS level) and then USC in the failed PAC conference (G6). Thus SMU is his first stop at a P3 level conference, and it'll take all his skill and NIL to compete in the ACC, which currently has four teams in the sweet 16. Enfield has BIG SHOES TO FILL following Lanier's vaunted 20 win season and almost winning a game in the AAC tourney. I'm excited, but it's always scary to gamble on an up-and-comer. https://www.si.com/college/usc/basketball/head-coach-andy-enfield-reportedly-leaving-for-smu-job-eg2001

  19. I believe Colleges will soon have to go to playing-contracts with athletes before much longer, similar to the NFL. Mainly to lock up players from moving after each season. The pay will have to be school-issued (but can be donor funded) with cap limits set on rosters determined by conference membership. Players can still sign endorsement deals outside the school playing contracts. But they can't leave for another school until either released from their current school contract, or stipulated buyout paid, or settlement agreement. Similar to NFL. A buyout from another school would help the athlete to move up in conferences and help the losing school recruit his replacement.

  20. I don’t know why we do the firing bit either.

  25. It is pretty concerning to me that the other top programs in the AAC: Memphis, FAU, UAB have demonstrated an ability to retain their elite players. Meanwhile we have lost our leading scorer to the portal two years in a row.

  26. ideally we're looking beyond (and up from) our conference, but nothing wrong with pitching Mekhi Mason from Rice

  27. So tell me this, a guy jumps from Juco to AAC, plays majority of games without two starters. Had to take on the point guard role and it wasn't good enough?

  28. Pointing out his liabilities is not really warranted, as we'd all be thrilled if he returned. It's not really fair to compare him to Perry either. They had different strengths, and Perry was here for 2 years & improved from year 1 to year 2.

  29. I am grateful for him keeping us in games. But I’d like a true closer all the same. Let’s just hope the team he joins doesn’t need to rely on him for any last second shots. Be sure they ain’t fallin.

  30. 20 wins yet finished the year losing 6 of the last 7. Also blew multiple double digit second half leads. Combine that with his reluctance to embrace NIL and his goose was cooked. Rob is a really nice man though. Very thoughtful and well-liked by players and opposing coaches. I wish him well at Rice.

  31. Incorrect. And he barely used our NIL support. Very Dabo.

  32. Great job organizing, Matt. Fun fan time for all. Enjoyed the banter and breadth of topics, as is likely to occur when fellas gather for the talking sport. There is value, lots of it, when fans coordinate and gather together, especially for away games where there may not be lots of Green in the crowd. The more together we are, the louder we are. Really appreciated the ladies coming over after the game to thank us for being there. Ladies, thank YOU! GMG

  33. Defense was ok. Not great, but not bad. Showed flashes of stopping the run. Secondary was aggressive in the run game. D-Line and linebackers need to get more involved. More pass rush also. But didn't give up any big plays. Offense 1st team looked good. Scored almost every possession. Running backs a little banged up so didn't see them all. Stone was with 1st team QB. Looked accurate. Ran the offense well. Good timing with receivers. Cash was 2nd team QB. Looked solid. Good arm, but a little late on a couple of throws. Ran the ball well when he had to scramble. Reese was 3rd QB. Didn't do much. Missed some receivers and completed a couple of short passes. Overall a good scrimmage. Looked better than this time last year. O-Line will be solid. Kicker made a 51 yarder during live scrimmage. So that's good. Saw Chandler Morris there watching. Not very big. Smaller than Stone. Will be interesting to see how things play out this summer.

  34. Does it suck he didn't stay? Yes. But he should always be remembered for the NIT championship, CUSA championship, CUSA player of the year and NIT Most Outstanding Player honors. He scored over 1,000 points in 67 games and the team went 56-14 in his two seasons in Denton. We need more players like that even if they eventually get lured away by deep-pocketed rat bastards higher than us in the food chain.

  35. Don't care where they come from. NT should just recruit the best players they can get that play NT style basketball; defense is priority, functions well in team environment, excellent character, I would prefer a mix of transfers, with a limited number of one year eligibility players, priority on getting players that once signed cannot leave without losing a year of eligibility Biggest need a defensive oriented big man and returning Edwards, Scott and Jones if he has another year

  36. I hear this a lot, the only problem is the vast majority of schools lose millions on athletics. Unless you want to consider that mandated student fees used for athletics are actually earned revenue. As stand alone entities, there maybe a handful of schools outside of the SEC that really make money.

  39. I'm not going to lie; I would love a reason to see a game in the Kibbie Dome vs. the University of Idaho. Throw in Syracuse, and combined with UTSA's rent-a-dome, I think I would have finally seen a game in all the CFB Domes.

  45. At one of our games a few years ago, a guy was wearing a Portland State hat just a few rows up from me. I asked him (tongue in cheek), “Hey, man. Do you have to wear that thing here?” Apparently he was on the team that beat us, moved to DFW, and now likes to attend our games. He was cool about it all. Still don’t like seeing Portland State anything, though. That game sucked.

  46. Agree. The wins in the NCAA over Purdue and NIT basketball over Okla St and Wisconsin were that. Let's have more of it!

  47. Great information thank you for sharing. The results of the transfers up to this point shine a focus on to where Morris's commitment is. I have not been the biggest fan of Caponi, but if your boss is not going to give you the tools to do your job correctly it makes it an uphill battle. If having the worst defense in football didn't shake up Morris and have him focus on adding players then I don't know what will.
