Layne's grandmother is bravely battling cancer and his decision was based on staying closer to her and the rest of the family as they support her during this difficult time. UNT did the right thing for this young man by letting him out of his signed NLI.17 points

Give you? This player disrespected Longwood and shows no loyalty or commitment. And you're fine with it... . . . . .14 points

Just seems like he wanted to stay close to home. I doubt theres a need to overthink it.9 points

It’s INSANE!!! So we are encouraged to contribute to a NIL fund to pay players who have absolutely no loyalty to our school and then if we want to watch them play we must buy a ticket, pay for parking etc.? Count me out.8 points

The game starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday if anybody is near Denton and could make it. They were $15 each. I could use a couple but will give up all nine and stand in right field if that means more people rooting on the Green Wednesday. I wanted to keep them out of the hands of Aggie fans. I know this doesn't belong in this forum but wanted to maximize visibility to help benefit the softball ladies.7 points

Yep. They want an NIL? I want a list of what players are being paid what amount and how their name, image or likeness is being used to earn these dollars. The fans give this money so we have a right to know. These kids entering the portal and signing elsewhere, I want to know what we offered/paid and what the new school is paying. Too much secrecy when the fan base is paying the salaries.7 points

"The Grand Old Man of Football" Amos Alonzo Stagg (August 16, 1862 – March 17, 1965) Stagg was a member of the first "All American Team" in 1889 when he played at Yale. He then coached from 1890 to 1946 at the University of Chicago and the University of the Pacific and won the 1905 and 1913 National Championships. He designed much of the game of football during his career. Amos Alonzo Stagg with North Texas coach Odus Mitchell the night before the 1946 Optimist Bowl. The bowl game, a 14-13 loss to North Texas, was the final game of Stagg's legendary college football coaching career.7 points

This sounds like a marriage counseling session that went off the rails. Nobody needs to be reminded when the season starts that they declared their intention to quit supporting the school during the offseason. Everybody knows supporting UNT is like herpes. You think it's finally gone and it flares up again.6 points

Dang... after 7 years of success you'd think the company we keep on lists like this wouldn't look like THIS. Embarrassing.6 points

Glad to say @CMJ can rest easy. All the people who bugged the sh!t out of him for spelling Rubin's name wrong now have a new name they can get wrong: Massie instead of Massey.6 points

First year in 20+ that I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on renewing my 4 season football tickets. Tired of never "winning the big game", tired of "it's about me", and "show me the money". Very little or no loyalty to "the team or school". Maybe I'm too old to be a college football/basketball fan.....6 points

Fanbase? What fanbase? Even the hardcore followers on gmg are walking away. Very little interest or traffic anymore. Covid, the portal, NIL and the economy have all taken a hit on what little fan base we had. Ignoring, or excluding your most ardent supporters during Spring Practice was a pretty shallow decision as well. I guess when we start the season 6-0 the fans will magically start to show up at Datcu.6 points

I saw enough of him to strongly believe he would have helped this team from day 1 https://www.cbssports.com/watch/college-basketball/video/pro-16-recap-layne-taylor-college-basketball-recruiting-weekly6 points

I guess he wasn't lying when he said he wanted out of his NLI to be somewhere closer to home. Not sure what his home situation is like (maybe he has family that needs help?), but UCA is much closer to it.6 points

Something not right with this. I’m thinking this was a mutual parting of ways for some reason.6 points

Good for him. I'm glad he found somewhere close to home that he can play right away.6 points

LOL - Central Arkansas went 9-23 this past season6 points

I'm hearing Caleb Williams is withdrawing from the NFL draft and transferring to UNT after getting a lifetime mani-pedi offer from a local nail salon.6 points

Is our coaching staff scrambling to field a football team for 2024? This portal crap and the ability to transfer at anytime, anywhere just takes the fun out of college football. For me at least.5 points

I thought I saw it was just long wood for three years. I stand corrected. Just another dude floating around never happy. These kids are going to struggle bouncing around out there in real life. 10 jobs 15 wife’s 20 countries…. I mean I guess whatever. That’s normal… just move move move move because it’s all about you all the time.5 points

Maybe my anticipations were too high for him and I thought he would be a major contributor early. If he wasn’t coming here I’d just assume he had something we would perceive as a step up. But maybe this was a more mutual parting?? Otherwise I am a bit perplexed.5 points

This is an example of saying a lot while saying absolutely nothing.5 points

I just know he couldn't have meant the Central Arkansas basketball team is building something special...5 points

Tough opponent? We should have beat them last year. Personally, I hate posts that are state our opponent is tough. That should be worried about playing us.5 points
-
That is one way to look at it. Another would be that given a full offseason together and the addition of a couple of key pieces, this year’s team could have built the foundation for something better. I wasn’t convinced this team was special or even a top conference team but I have a hard time imagining losing the entire top six on the roster is ever really a positive unless you are just awful. We were not great but far from awful.5 points

On this I agree 100%. Wish it was still this way. College football is getting way out of hand. Maybe it's just me.4 points

A lot of you guys still haven't learned.... Many times, dudes transferring from a High-Major/P5 to NT looking for more PT aren't nearly as good as dudes transferring from a Low-Major/FCS, or even D2.4 points

I would like they stay where they started. One transfer and make that about one of 3 things. 1. Family 2. Competitive step up 3. location you get one move. Make it count. Better yet stay where you are. Maybe NILs need to be kept in accounts and only guaranteed if you stay in your original location. Paid out at the end unless you leave or go pro in which case that account is forfeited. There are many reasonable solutions. Instead it’s the Wild West. Anarchy…. It’s ridiculous .4 points

Bob here has a point... Fund our players, fund our program, buy tickets, pay for parking, overpay on concessions and merchandise.... all while the product inevitably withers away due to all of the rules currently in place. We're getting had coming and going. While the ignorant and rabid fan bases of the big boys can scalp their dumbass alum/fans, I don't think ours will play this game. And if our fans do, for how long? What is the ROI? And I think the pill would be easier to take if we knew the athletic department personnel were truly committed to the university. But we have a long and ugly history of athletic department personnel being committed to athletic department personnel. Outside of Patrick Cobbs, players or coaches or administrators, who really gives a shit about the University of North Texas? I think it's time, more than ever, to start hiring North Texas people. In this new age of collegiate athletics, passion and meaningful work will have to carry the torch. There is no better way to infuse the athletic department with passion than hiring North Texas people.4 points
