Yep. I've been associated with UNT since Ja'Quay. Never seen any issues at RB.

We've been blessed at LB in that time as well.

You're part of the same era as me. For fun, I tried to think of all the starting RBs since Ja'Quay and included a few of the star backups, too. Can you remember them? I know this off the top of my head, and there are probably a few holes and mistakes.

'99 - Ja'Quay

Galbriath/Cobbs (Hamilton?)

Galbrieth/Cobbs

Cobbs/Jamario

Jamario

Jamario-Cobbs

Dunbar/Cam Montgomery/Mosley

Dunbar

Byrd/Brown/JimJim

....?

That's about right . . . in 2007, it was Mosley/Jamario (Cam Montgomery was injured); in 2008, it was mostly Cam Montgomery; in 2009, it started out being Cam until Lance had his big breakthrough against MTSU.

I was thinking that exact same thing yesterday. We never have trouble finding and developing RB's and LB's. Now QB's and DT's are a different story.

As mentioned, they were running skeleton punt return drills at the beginning of practice. The returners were Chancellor, Harris (#9), Jones (#13) and Wilhite (who is now wearing #21). Believe it or not Chancellor and Harris were almost neck and neck in their returns, but Chancellor was a shade better because he has a little bit better peripheral vision. Jones was about a 1/2 step behind them. Wilhite was about a full step behind the other three. Chancellor and Harris were the most elusive.

I'm told that before spring is over MANY other players will get a shot at doing returns.

Silver, how do you get to watch and get to soak in so much of Spring Practice??

Last year, a buddy of mine and I were riding our bikes around Apogee and just around the area, and took a breather by the practice fields and looked on for a couple of minutes. We were cut short though, because RV literally walked over to us and told us to buzz off/closed practice/etc.

That always irked me the wrong way.

Spring practices are open. Fall practices are not.

Yep. Don't forget Hamilton's contributions behind Dunbar for 2 seasons. And the little battering ram James Mitchell in the early-mid 00's.

The top programs almost never let the good DTs slip through the cracks. I.E. Charles Walker this year going to OU.

Nevertheless I really like the potential of syd Moore coming in and hope a few of these young guys can break through this spring.

Here's the question, does our defensive tackle position get better or worse? We lost Cantly but we gain a healthy Boutwell and several new faces who could all potentially contribute. We'll in the very least be deeper!!

Our run defense wasn't the problem last season so while I would love to have more blue chip talent at dt I can live with the same or better run defense as last year with more production offensively.

I personal hope that a play maker will emerge be it Dutton Watson, Austin Orr, etc... Syd Moore could give the entire unit a boost as well.

do we know if syd moore was able to get his grades well enough to go to a 4 year college?? since he double signed with a JUCO?

That responsibility lies with the kid but also our coaching staff and AD... if we stay on top of that situation it can play out nicely. If we focus on other things it will play out to the juco. You know that there are juco coaches whispering in his ear saying, "hey don't worry about your grades you will get a fresh academic start here..." I don't think Mac and company would have signed the kid if they didn't think they had a fair chance to land him. Time will tell.

Mitchell! I was racking my brain trying to remember the kid that was a a destroyer of NMSU Ags.
