North Texas Lands Roger Franklin

Agree with the general sentiment, but not the specific wording here. These are still a lot of freshmen and the majority of the team has never played together before and never in an NT uniform. Day 1 is a little ambitious... There are going to be unavoidable mistakes and a bit of a learning curve as they get used to playing as a team.

But what should have been a rebuilding year has potentially turned into a rebuilding month or month and a half... This team could be very dangerous by the time the new year hits.

Why can't I +1 (or maybe -1) this comment??

This program just continues to get better by the day. Once again, hats off to JJ and the staff for the work that they put into making this basketball basketball team great. What a great recruiting class! Hopefully one day football can get to this level :thumbsu:

Glad to have Franklin but despite all his high school heroics, he was a bench player with a mediocre OSU team. That doesn't mean he want be great at NT, but at the same time I don't think he is automatically a star in a lessor conference. While high school accolades are meaningful, it is far from recruiting a four star player directly out of high school. There are a lot of "rebound" players who do very well in the Belt but there are also plenty of examples of players that do not. Jones has been very successful with transfers and I think he will be right about Franklin.

The best thing I have hear about Franklin is that he is a leader and good defensive player, not that he couldn't be an offensive force at NT. I can think of two very good offensive post players about his size that played for NT. One, fairly recent, Deginald Erskin who was a great offensive player around the basket at a listed 6'5. He would have been prominent in the NT record books if he had not transferred. The other was Kenan Dubose who was a transfer from Arkansas who was also great on the offensive end.

Only time will tell if Franklin can recapture some of his high school glory. He is a tweener and as such it will be very interesting to see how he is used. The potential for something great is certainly there, but a good hard nosed defensive player is certainly welcome regardless of his offensive play.

No one is claiming that he alone makes this class what it is. But combine him with what's already coming and you can't help but get excited. As strange as it sounds, an OSU transfer doesn't have to come here and be a star. Just help lead a young team and play the role JJ has for you. Couldn't be more happy.

So I was going to type in that I kneel before Zod but then thought about how that sounds and just can't make that type of statement. However...I can share with you Zod's 2008 Presidential Election Campaign Website......

As a true freshman, Franklin played behind James Anderson, who was drafted #20 in the first round of the NBA draft. In fact, I was hoping that he was going to be around for the Mavericks. Marshall Moses, (All Big 12 this year) backed Anderson up. (I think) Anyway, Moses was their best player this year with All Big 12 Defender Jean-Paul Olukemi, further limiting minutes

All OSU fans are eagerly waiting on the arrival next year of Dallas’ 6-7 McDonald’s All-American LeBryan Nash; to step right into that spot. He is Rivals #4 recruit with 5 Stars. (Which I don't don't pay attention to) These fans, in opinion, will be very disappointed in Nash.

At any rate, Roger didn't want to possibly waste his junior year and felt that Travis Ford would feel forced to play Nash. Now, to hopefully temper Mean Greens fan's enthusiasm, Franklin will not be a star. He is, as you mentioned, a tweaner. He will, however, bring the necessary hustle and intensity that this team has lacked. He'll be more than a role player but should not be mentioned in the same breath as T. Mitch. I think the Sunbelt is more suited for his talents than the Big 12. Like many kids, he just over signed at OSU. Good player but a small forward (only) at 6-4.

I’ve enjoyed watching Roger since both he and Shawn Williams starred at Duncanville freshmen. They reloaded and help DHS capture state in their Soph season.

In my mock lineup, I have Franklin starting ahead of Jordan Williams at the 3. Roger, I feel is more D1 ready than Williams.

As for as the last ship, I agree with everyone that we must find a big. I have now had an opportunity to watch 3 of Midland’s playoff games. I haven’t seen anything from Dwight Miller to get excited about. I would not be opposed to JJ signing the best player available, regardless of position. The 2012 class maybe where we land the big men we desire. (To replace Alonzo Edwards, K. Hogan and possibly Knox due to graduation)

Franklin will get time at the 4 and 3 positions. The reason he was ineffective at OSU was because he was too short to play down low and couldn't shoot well enough to play outside. He can play down low in the Sun Belt because the opposing teams aren't nearly as big or athletic. I'm really looking forward to next season. I still think our best recruit (other than T-Mitch) is Chris Jones. I'd be shocked if he's not our starting PG from day one.

No, the best(other than T-Mitch) would be Forrest Robinson.

If Robinson were a pure center I might tend to agree, but I think I'll go with Jordon Williams because of his all around game. On the other hand, maybe I'll go with Franklin because of his leadership abilities and toughness? On third thought, I really like Trey Norris in that I think he can develop into a big-time scorer and assist guy down the road once he gets a couple of seasons under his belt. Hell, I think I like 'em all.

I'm right there with you Foutsrouts. I can't decide which player I'm more excited about.
