  2. Interesting results from an anonymous survey of DFW high school football head coaches in The Athletic. One of the questions was to name the best college assistant coaches at recruiting. Patrick Cobbs was our only coach mentioned. And he was mentioned multiple times. Here is another quote from a DFW high school head coach that I found interesting and true unfortunately: “The Group of 5s are now junior colleges. If your kid is all-conference, he ain’t coming back. He’s gone, and you know he’s gone. They have to change their thinking for how they build their programs. They have to tell kids, “Come here, play a couple years and you’ll be gone.” They have to just be good with that. They’re not going to stay around.” Link to article: https://theathletic.com/5422366/2024/04/18/dallas-texas-high-school-recruiting-confidential/?source=user_shared_article
  3. Almost all of these are wrong. Truth definitely isn't the best BBQ in Houston.
  4. Also, I guess if we get to claim 407, we have to let smu claim cattleack, even though it is much farther away from the school than 407 is.
  5. Not just any Bodacious. On Moberly. Another East Texas spot will probably at the worst be on the honorable mention section if not top 10, on the next list. B4 bbq in mabank.
  6. Not the game I expected to see. Team seemed in awe of the mighty aggies. Childers, I thought was NT's best pitcher early; now she looks like she has lost her confidence. The game was far from meaningless, it was a chance to demonstrate that NT is a quality team. It did just the opposite.
  7. Averaged 4.7 pts, 2.4 rebounds, 17 minutes a game for a 14-19 La Tech team With NT already with 2 hs guards signed, and most of last year's guards with eligibility left, I wonder about this signing.
  8. This sounds like a marriage counseling session that went off the rails. Nobody needs to be reminded when the season starts that they declared their intention to quit supporting the school during the offseason. Everybody knows supporting UNT is like herpes. You think it's finally gone and it flares up again.
  9. financially? ha...oh goodness no. I spend my money on travel, music, drugs, golf, art, fine food & drink and my various charitable pursuits. like an interesting person. as a fan, sure. and I like the rest of you will be right back here supporting in the exact same way you have for 10, 20, 50 years. you'll be saying how ________ is the best PG or PF we've had here in decades, you'll rationalize away your "hate" for the portal with the fact that ________ is on his third school (at least until he transfers out at the end of next year) and you'll go on supporting the laundry because its what you do. the piety is boring so just stop. you never cared about the kids, just how they made you feel about your school...because that's somehow super important in your social circles
  10. If Mean Green fans grousing could kill your vibe, how did it survive on GMG for 21 years?
  11. I am not disregarding it, I'm suggesting we suck at recruiting, with or without NIL. NIL and the transfer rules are just making the entire process around us, in and outside Denton, move faster. I don't really care if this is statistically the worse offseason ever. I still handle emotionally it the same as any other bad offseason, which have been plenty around here. I'll still be around, watching and rooting for the Mean Green next year.
  12. No, I was trying to say his comparison of loyalty to hopping jobs. A company would drop any one as an employee without the bat of an eye. There is no loyalty on the business side.

  14. NIL can't be disregarded when speaking of recruiting. NIL is recruiting. Many on here and the media talk as if money isn't always it. But I promise you it's always a part of it. And for most, it is it.
  15. The damning reality is how shitty we are recruiting right now, regardless of NIL.
  16. The girls all get prettier at closing time.
  17. Well, I love the optimism. But the reality is damning.
  18. Football is swirling around the toilet bowl. Not just UNT football, but "mid major" football in general. I expect salary corrections at this "level" as well as staff reductions in the very near future. The NCAA's lack of forward thinking going on decades+ attorneys attacking the NCAA and relegating them to a meaningless governing body has damaged the ship. Sinking is next. Basketball at our "level" can continue to tread water due to not needing as many parts to create a competitive product. Until, of course, the major programs start whittling away at that a la NIT rule changes, Sankey openly telling the NCAA tourney committee to tread lightly in their selections, etc. Presumably more to follow.
  19. Gonna be honest: what's killing my Mean Green vibe is not actually NIL, it's all the Mean Green fans griping about NIL. I know we all have our reasons, but for me and my fandom, I'm pretty good as long as someone is representing Mean Green in college sports. I like following the players and feel a certain level of attachment to them, but obviously not nearly as much attachment as some of you all do. PS: maybe I'll be joining y'all done day! Just not there yet.
  20. I'm an idiot sometimes, and this was one of those times. I think throwing TP in the middle of a Sonny Dykes Texas Tech football quote in which you're clearly not quoting - only paraphrasing - threw me off ab it.
  21. Yep. They keep calling me to reup my FB season tickets and I just can't pull the trigger. No incentive. Silence around the program. Nobody up there is driving any type of excitement, spring football came and went with the least amount of coverage as I can ever remember which has led to me not really caring at this point. Things are more expensive, two kids in college and I have to decide if I want to make the drive, etc. Nobody working on Bonnie Brae Street is giving me any reason to at this point. I may just sit here and watch it on ESPN+
  22. Just watched the replay and the score is pretty deceiving to me. 1. Childers has got to get straightened out for us to have a shot the rest of the way. It looks like she is trying to overthrow and has lost her control. 2. This change in the rule for obstruction is complete bullshit. Christensen hosed a girl trying to steal second by three feet and the umpire, after adjusting his Aggie ring, called obstruction. It is ridiculous. There was no other way for Medford to field the throw. It is almost as if they are supposed to just let them have access to the base. I would love to hear the umpire's explanation, after he adjusts his Aggie ring, on how he expects us to defend that steal attempt. 3. That reversal led to their big inning and took a lot out of us. 4. Their homerun was basically a popup that the wind carried out. On the flip side, Gamble hit on off the wall, that if she elevated another ten feet, would have landed in Sanger. 5. We still seem to be a little passive at the plate. 6. We turned a beautiful 5-4-3 double play that they never showed a replay of. In the end, this game means nothing. Let's go sweep Memphis and finish out this season on a winning streak. Love watching these girls.
