The Fake Lonnie Finch
In posting about the Tulsa game, I figured I'd pull out the bat and beat the dead "Who's Our Rival" horse. Here is a list of schools we've played most often, and the last time we played them:

SWT/Texas State - 39 (1994)
New Mexico State - 34 (2004)
SMU - 33 (2007)
Sam Houston State - 30 (1994)

Stephen F. Austin - 29 (1994)
ULM - 27 (2010)
Tulsa - 22 (2008)
UTEP - 21 (1980)
Arkansas State - 20 (2010)
Memphis - 20 (1980, regular season - 2003, bowl)

TCU - 18 (2002)
Cincinnati - 17 (1973, regular season - 2002, bowl)
Louisville - 17 (1995)
Louisiana - 15 (2010)
Baylor - 13 (2004)
Houston - 12 (1998)
Louisiana Tech - 11 (2006)
Nevada - 11 (1999)
Oklahoma State - 11 (1994)
Middle Tennessee - 10 (2010)
Northwestern State (La.) - 10 (1994)

Future Schedules - Out of conference (correct me if I have these wrong):
2012
@ LSU
@ Kansas State

2013
Ohio
Ball State
@ Georgia
Army

2014
@ Texas
SMU
@Army
@ Tulsa

2015
@SMU
@Iowa
Tulsa

2016
SMU
Tulsa
@ Florida
@ Army

2017
Army
@Iowa
@SMU

2018
@ Army
@ Arkansas
SMU

Happy to see SMU and Tulsa on the future schedule. Very solid. The series with Army is classic. Love that as well. I also like tapping into the MAC. Now more than ever with Midwesterner Dan McCarney piloting the ship.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but I think I see these home dates available:
2012 - Two home dates available
2015, 2017, and 2018 - One home date available

Available, from the "rivalry" list to play us at home in:
2012: TCU, Baylor, Tulsa
2015: Texas State, New Mexico State, TCU, UTEP, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, Baylor
2017: TCU, Memphis, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, Baylor, Oklahoma State
2018: UTEP, Memphis, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, Oklahoma State

Would be nice to see some old rivalry games with schools now in the Big East (Cincy, Louisville...*sigh*...we were once conference mates), but it's unlikely that they'd do one shot home game with us. Ditto, Oklahoma State...although they did go to Louisiana last year, so it's not unheard of.

TCU probably won't "bow" to play us at home ever again. Baylor, maybe. Although, they have been going FCS early to get an extra home game (something some of us have preached for years).

We know Louisiana Tech thinks very highly of themselves...and, for no apparent good reason.

So, where are we left if we want old rivals in the future? Slim pickings. With two away games already in the books from 2013 to 2018, we really have to room for back-to-back year home-and-homes to offer any of them.

Happy to revive SMU and Tulsa, and should probably just leave it at that...although, I'd love to hammer Texas State once they jump up to FBS!

Thirteen players, including five with prior USA Basketball experience, were named Sunday as finalists for the 2011 USA Men’s U19 World Championship Team. The selections, which were made by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee, came after three-days, four training sessions, during the USA U19 Team training camp that got underway Friday. The USA squad will look to defend the gold medal won in 2009 at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship that runs June 30-July 10 in Latvia.

UNT 90 Grad
The basis for what North Texas hopes will be a lasting tradition began on a day when a group graduates considered a simple question.

Why isn’t there an eagle in Fouts Field, anyway?

James Stinson was there that day in the summer of 2008 at Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse in Dallas with five other members of the Geezles, a social fraternity full of former UNT athletes that disbanded in 1970.

“I said it was a shame,” Stinson said. “When we were in school, our fraternity house had a big eagle. We decided that we should see about getting an eagle for the new stadium.”

That discussion hatched a project that will come to fruition this fall. When UNT opens its new football stadium, it will feature an eagle statue that will help recognize the rich history of the Geezles, who hope the sculpture will also help set the tone for the future of the program.

The fraternity, which includes former NFL players Ray Renfro, legendary coaches such as G.A. Moore and community figures such as John Guyer and Billy Ryan, raised the money to have the statue built.

The bronze eagle bust that will stand about 5 feet tall and weigh around 225 pounds will sit in the players’ entrance to the new Mean Green stadium that will open Sept. 10 when UNT hosts Houston. UNT adopted “Mean Green” as its nickname in the time since the Geezles were a prominent campus group, but the school has retained the eagle as its mascot.

On a side note, according to the the second article, the call of an eagle is "KEE", not "CAW". Someone alert the Green Brigade.

Offensive Linemen

Cam Feldt (Arkansas to North Texas) – Considering Arkansas’ need for linemen this season and Feldt ranking among the top 150 prospects by ESPN, it’s a surprise to see him leave for North Texas. Feldt should be able to figure prominently into the Mean Green’s offensive line next year

The University of North Texas athletic department worked through the first few phases of the seat-selection process for its new football stadium over the last few weeks.

For the most part, UNT officials and the boosters who have purchased seats say they are happy with the results.
UNT has sold all 21 of its luxury boxes and more than 500 of its 754 club seats — up from 64 club seats on March 1, 2010.

Athletic department officials will now turn their attention to selling seats to fans who are not members of the Mean Green Club, the fundraising wing of the department.

“It’s been great,” said Cooper Jones, UNT’s senior associate athletic director for development.

"Was I ready? Shoot, I don’t know," Dodge said. "I don’t know if you’re ever ready. As far as where our players came from academically, how far they came character wise, it was night and day from the time I got there to the time I left. I’m very proud of that. I helped get a stadium built there. I left the North Texas program in a lot better shape in a lot of ways. The bottom line is we didn't win enough games.

"I understand that, but I have no regrets at all on that. It would be easy to say I was on a roll at Southlake Carroll, going 79-1, fixing to go for a fourth straight high school championship. Then you take a job and a lot of people say you fell on your face, but I don’t look at it like that. You make decisions in your life and you go on. Right now, I’m absolutely so happy to be here at Pitt, to be on this staff and to be in this city."

I just found out that there is a JUKLY 22nd deadline for ordering MEAN GREEN GAME DAY TAILGATE TENTS. This year the tents come in two sizes...a 9X9 for $225 and a 9X18 for $375.

Order deadline is July 22nd and they can be ordered by contacting Matt Phillips at 940-369-8409. You can visit MEANGREENSPORTS.COM to purchase your tailgate tent on line if you would prefer. Checks can be made payable to "NORTH TEXAS ATHLETICS".

You can probably see the tents if you check on line. I did try to attach the order form here, but GMG.Com said the file was too big. I have asked harry to take a look and see if he couldn't post it for me on this thread...but check out MEANGREENSPORTS.Com in the meantime...pretty great looking tents. They, of course, have many uses along with tailgating...like creating a little shade for next year's GMG.Com Bowl 9!

Check them out on line or give Matt Phillips a call if interested. Don't miss the deadline to get them ordered in time for delivery for the Sept. 10th kick-off!

I hope harry can post the flyer...hint...hint. Help this non-techie out a bit folks.....

GO MEAN GREEN!

Mark
