Busting North Texas Football Myths

meangreener

So obviously these are a little fancy so what I'm planning on doing is making an equal number of both and posting them all throughout the buildings on campus and surrounding places that'll let me. Then I'm going to make some lower quality flyers with just text mainly with debunked myths that I'm going to hand out on campus and see if I can get RHA to pass out at the residence halls. I'm also gonna make one with Uncle Sam that says "UNT NEEDS YOU TO BE AT APOGEE" and put that on all the bulletin boards.

Also, I'm about to make a Twitter @hit30k in which I post updates on what we're doing, debunked myths and all the like so keep them coming!

Let me get some popcorn going, this could get interesting...

Why? If people have a problem with this then they have serious problems. I'm gonna try to get the SAA to sponsor it and get approval from the AD. It's nothing official, just flyers and a Twitter campaign. My plan is to overload campus with said flyers.

Okay, if we are not going to take it seriously then don't even bother. At least I'm trying to get something done.

Also, going to make a twitter profile for this soon. Stay updated. Goal is to get one sellout, at least with students.

Myth: 'Mother Fudgin Eagles' is in the Fight Song

This is valid, it is a myth that it is included in the fight song. If you are going to address myths, this seems to be one that a lot of students seem confused about and a good place to start.

What exactly are you looking for?

You said you have some examples, but wanted more from us... show us what you have, and maybe we can see the avenue you're wanting to take.

Otherwise, it's all jokes to hide the pain inside.

I don't think people will have a problem with you doing this. I do think this thread will be jacked more than it already has been and I am sure there will dead horses getting beaten and axes ground.

NT plays "big time" college football. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "They're on the same level as (insert power conference school)??".

Ok, so maybe we're not on the same level financially, budget wise, or recruiting, but we are a FBS school.

I appreciate and support this idea, with the qualification that many of the problems the football program faces in reputation are problems the University is fighting to get rid of as a whole.

A good example is the common myth that fits in with this year's theme: "We're new"

It applies to both football and the university. It might be useful to include comparisons so people know how close we are to the "majors." For example:

Established - School - Football Started

1873 - TCU (as Add-Ran) - 1894

1876 - A&M - 1894

1883 - Texas - 1893

1890 - UNT - 1913

1899 - TxSt - 1904

1911 - SMU -1915

1913 - UTEP - 1914
1923 - Tech - 1925

1927 - Houston - 1946

Generally thinking, you want to make a big, short statement on the top, and then you want itty-bitty type with the facts. The cynical among us always read the tiny text at the bottom to see what the qualifications are before reading the top line.

Actually, a fancy awesome infographic thing that you find all the time online would be perfect for this.
