Apogee Stadium was packed for the 4th of July Fireworks

TheWestie

I saw a LOT of people donating. The morons who showed up with arms full of drinks and fast food, not so much.

Fireworks looked good. But they looked even better with Apogee underneath them!

But here is the problem. You get a green parking pass for season tickets and have to go out of your way to get it.... Then at the end they just let everyone into the lot. What is the point... I also feel sorry for the Kiwanis who helped put it on. Everyone was walking into the stadium and no one was donating. I guess it is the entitled America.

It was a fantastic show but I wish people would realize what goes into it and not just expect a free show every year.

Adding onto to others.... It was a fantastic opportunity to get people into the stadium and interested in going to game for the environment. I bet we see some decent home crowds this year.

Winning will go a long ways to increasing crowd sizes.

You do realize that having a green pass had absolutely no bearing on primary parking around Apogee today, right? Like, it shouldn't. It didn't. And we're all better for it.

The real issue here folks was WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT PUNK ROCK ABOMINATION OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM THAT THEY PLAYED BEFORE THE FIREWORKS STARTED?!?!

It was despicable.

that national anthem WAS awful...i was just standing there stunned...and then i was even more stunned when more than 50% of the crowd started applauding

I was given a green parking pass along with my club tickets, both of which were specifically marked for tonight's event. I was under the impression that the green lots were supposed to be reserved for season ticket holders as well, but since you specify "at the end", I'm assuming they kept the lots reserved originally. If you didn't get there in plenty of time to claim your spot, then that's on you

I 100% agree with the nation anthem comment! It seems un American to change it. If the green pass had no bearing then they should not have sent out an emailing saying you would get special parking privliahesbut would have to come pick it up. They should not have made it clear that only people who are season ticket holders and have parking there to begin with will get parking. They wavied everyone away until about ten minutes to show and then gave up and let them all in for no charge. While people who were there to begin with paid for it with their season ticket package. It's not a major deal but they should have charged them for coming in or not made a big deal about getting the parking pass to begin with....

Sorry I tried to clarify above but I think my comment was caught up in Christopher walkers comment above...

We were there in plenty of time and had a great view until they let tons of people in at the end and cars started parking in front of us. So clearly it was not "reserved" as promised. Which is fine.... If they would not make a big deal about it being reserved to begin with. I mean they pay people to watch thengate but it seems every time people just slip right in... But of course those same people will jump all over if you if stand in the walk away for 30 seconds to watch a play during the game... Am I right? Haha

We donated and paid for parking. Great night for our family. My three and four year old loved it. We even had bits of exploded fireworks blowing on us in the wingzone. My kids thought that was cool. Something to write the date on and frame to remember the night.

That pic would make many of our UNT's version of a Pulitzer photo prize (so to speak). WOW!

Wonder what our 2 or 3 chief UNT critics would say about that pic? Maybe....."Look how dark the clouds are in the background, just shows how dark the school's agenda has been since 1890?":zoro::)

EDIT: no politics.

Leave the Star Spangled Banner alone! If all these soloist and groups are going to embellish or be creative with something musically, do it with bubble gum rock and roll music....not our national anthem.

My Family and I had a great time. Got to say hey to Christopher Walker at the Alumni Pavilion as I was showing my kids my pave stone. Kids had fun on the bounce houses. I was a little surprised to see that Sonic was a sponsor, yet they didn't have the Sonic concession stand open. (Disclaimer: that last statement was not intended to be critical.). You could get a good view of the demolition work that has taken place on the NE corner of Fouts from the bridge.

Everything we do in this country is politics, pal! Maybe what I said doesn't fit your agenda? And what happened to Freedom of Speech? Did that go away, too? Seems it did in some quarters. P.C. will turn America into a 3'rd world ghetto before it's all done. THERE! I SAID IT (and millions upon millions believe it).

My one complaint, the "S" and the "T" are burned out on the stadium sign. Noticed it the other night.

Other than that, awesome photo

There's a forum where we allow politics, and a thread where we require most of it to go. This isn't that forum, and this isn't that thread.

Lots of rules get waived, ignored, or overlooked sometimes. That isn't one of them. If you can't confine political talk to the part of GMG that's set aside for that, then there are consequences. For you, for anyone.

Today's signage use LEDs to illuminate the signs/letters. It is tough to say whether the LEDs are burned out or are not receiving electricity. Generally the LEDs burn out a few at a time before the entire fixture is no longer lit.

So what was done to make these people return Aug 31? The rest, to me, is just a wasted opportunity.

I would have hoped that the athletic department would have coordinated with the Kiwanis to delay the grand finale while they showed a preview video for the up coming season. With this announcement.

"And now folks, we pause just before the grand finale to show you what is in store for Mean Green fans at Apogee this fall....we look forward to seeing you all back here on Aug 31st"
