They are doing an article for an upcoming issue that is a Fan's guide for the major schools in the state. The idea is pretty simple, pretend you've never been to a game at UNT and this information would make your first experience much more fun.

I will post the questions in bold and put my responses and if you guys will respond as well we will have a good consensus to use for the article! Having the new stadium changes this up a little for us but what would you say to the masses about being a North Texas Mean Green Fan?

1). What throw-back jersey do you wear? I wear a Mean Joe Greene throwback #75

2). Where do you tailgate and where do you eat? We tailgate right by the practice field as close to the stadium as we can get. When I'm not eating tailgate food New York Subs is a tradition, the #3 boiled ham and cheese.

3). What's the best UNT Tradition? To me it's the player walk through that occurs a couple of hours before the game. The players led by the head coach walk from the athletic dorm to the stadium with the band and cheer squad. They walk between a wall of fans cheering on either side and play the fight song.

4). What odd or unique things do the fans do at North Texas? We like our firework shows at North Texas! We have been known to celebrate the most bitter of losses with a big firework show.

5). What bar do you drink at when the Mean Green win? We typically drink in the parking lot. Back in the day it was tavern on the Green but lately I have frequented The Pourhouse.

6). What classic game do fans refer to? October 25, 1975 North Texas beat the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium in front of 72,670 Volunteer fans. Also have to mention the "Robbery" game against The University of Texas on Sept. 24, 1988 when Texas QB Shannon Kelley found Keith Cash in the corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. The problem was Cash was clearly out of bounds! The Longhorns escaped with the 27-24 win and broke Mean Green fanhearts for decades to come.

Here's whats left:

84 Brown, Greg WR 6-1 232 Sr. Grand Prairie, TX (Grand Prairie HS)
81 Bynes, Christopher WR 6-1 220 RJr. Lauderdale Lakes, FL (Coffeyville CC)
4 Carey, Darius WR 5-10 188 Jr. New Orleans, La (Helen Cox HS)
80 Chancellor, Brelan WR 5-9 168 So. Copperas Cove, TX (Copperas Cove HS)
17 Johnson, Breece WR 6-1 187 Sr. Colleyville, TX (Heritage HS)
23 Marshall, Mike WR 6-0 195 Fr. Grand Prairie, TX (South Grand Prairie HS)
27 Schutza, Casey WR 5-10 170 Jr. Euless, TX (Trinity HS)
14 Stradford, Tyler WR 6-2 185 Sr. New Orleans, LA (Oklahoma)
3 Taylor, Willie WR 5-10 181 Jr. Dallas, TX (Hillcrest HS)

That leaves us with 8 returning wide receivers. Of the 8, 5 were scholarship and 3 of the 6 (Brown, Marshall, Shutza) were originally walk-ons.

In the 2011 signing class we had one receiver (6-5 Chaz Sampson).

I'm thinking we may want to look to James Hamilton as a replacement for Darius. Another option would be some of the new guys we signed at other positions, including Antoine Jimmerson, Andrew McNulty, Zach Whitfield or Freddy Wariner.

Since we are post Dodge, being so low on wide receivers is not AS much an issue but certainly replacing a player of Carey's ability is no small order! I like Carey and will miss watching him but my support lies with Coach Mac and I believe he is only doing what is best for the program. Go Mean Green!

I hate to be that guy that cites a facebook post, but he says he's on his way to UNT this year. If so, he'll be another great DB addition along with Swarn & Warner. I don't recall hearing about him signing, and looked through the archives, but did not find any threads on him. Maybe this is old news for some of y'all... if so, sorry for the duplicate post.

I posted yesterday that I couldn't read the new stadium lettering from I35 E, going south. Today, I drove I35 W, going both north and south and could plainly see the lettering and NEW SOW being installed to the left, or right before the lettering. The SOW is pretty big and very cool. Drive by on 35W if you get a chance; it looks great.

I suppose the problem with the view from 35E is that the angle is bad and the lettering is just to close together to really decipher what is "printed". It does look great from 35W, as you have a straight on view.
