DENTON — North Texas is expected be added to Conference USA by the end of the week, a source within the UNT athletic department said late Monday night.
The UNT board of regents delegated authority to school President Lane Rawlins to examine the school’s options in conference alignment Wednesday during a specially called teleconference.
UNT has been a member of the Sun Belt since 2000.
UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal did not return a phone message seeking comment Monday night.
Rawlins declined to address the school’s plans for conference alignment last week.
Courtney Morrison-Archer, an assistant commissioner in C-USA, said Monday that the league was in the final stages of reviewing applications by schools interested in joining the league.
“We received multiple applications and are in the final stages of reviewing those applications, but no final action has taken place yet,” Morrison-Archer said.
