Here's an interesting fact that some might not realize concerning UNT's quest for Tier One Status.....the number of donors count in the formula as we were recently told by a member of the Texas State legislature. And, guess what? The size of the donation doesn't matter in this number...it's the number itself that counts. While actual dollars donated count in another factor, the actual number of donors counts as well. So, whether you give $25 or $25,000,000 it counts as ONE DONOR...

A great way to benefit both yourself and UNT...and help in UNT's quest for Tier One status is simply by joining the UNT ALUMNI Association. Each Alumni Association member counts as one donor!

Memberships start at $40 (recent grad memberships are as low as $20)...that's not a very large cost to be in the formula for Tier One status for UNT AND to reap the ever growing benefits of being a member of the UNT Alumni Association. Here at the start of 2012 is a great time to make that happen.

Please consider heading over to the UNT Alumni Association website to join or renew your membership...It really is a win-win situation for everyone.

Yep the amount of donors is important because if as time passes by if donors get more and more financially stable they'll be willing to donate more which is why we need more and more donors at all level. On UT Austin's website on the front page it talks about giving back and it says "Large or small every gift matters". We need to do as much as we can to attract more donors.

We have thousands of alumni. How do we convince them to donate $20, $50, $100, $1000, etc.? We need to do something like this: http://www.wibc.com/...aspx?id=1386959

I think when there is a well defined stated goal, it helps people see the climb and encourages to give. The problem may be that people capable of writing just a check for $100 feel they are contributing to a black hole and no goal is being attained. Just a thought.

Agree 100%. However, you may not be aware that most major fundraising efforts like the one Ball State did, the one Oklahoma State Recently announced for $1BILLION and the one UNT...yes, UNT will officially announce soon...have a "quiet stage" where somewhere near 50% of the campaign goal is reached BEFORE the campaign is announced publicly. OSU had over $400,000,000 of their $1BILLION goal raised BEFORE they announced the campaign. It is my understanding that UNT is in the "quiet phase" of just such a campaign and has been for awhile now...I have been told that a public announcement MAY...MATY be forthcoming in the not so distant future.

One must state a goal...and generally write it down, to actually have any hope in its achievement. That's why so many peoples' individual goals, be they personal or financial, fail. They are never written down and so they are soon forgotten! GOALS are very important as you point out.

That's awesome to hear and I hope you are correct. I really think a stated amount will really encourage people to give and see the progress. Exciting times. Any idea on when the quiet phase will end?

Well, I do know that the development and foundation folks have been working on this for some time and are seeing some successes...we have all seen some of their successes in the fairly recent and large donation announcement over the last several months. Contrary to what some folks think, UNT has a very hard working and dedicated group of development officers who span the length and breath of departments and programs at UNT. Not every success they have is announced to the public as some donors ask that they remain anonymous.

Increasing the giving levels and grant funds to UNT is a big part of the new University Plan...and is very much needed in order to move to Tier One status and to help UNT meet its five year planning goals.

As to your question of when...I really do not know, but what i do know is that there is a plan and there is a schedule and the plan will be met and the schedule will be met. Once the public phase is announced I hope members of the Mean green nation will meet it with enthusiasm and will open their pocketbooks as best they can and support the effort.

I'm sure UNT is planning to do something - but I'm also sure that, given the confidential nature of this sort of thing, it could be months or even years before we hear about how some of us can step up to the plate and play ball. Whatever's going on, I'm sure that UNT knows what it is doing, and as is the case with these sorts of things - I'm sure that anyone who knows anything about it has probably signed a stack of secrecy agreements. :ninja:

On the wider point, it is donating numbers, not donating amounts, that count. So yes, even if you give $20, it helps UNT get towards the Tier One goal a great deal.
