The football team was great until the mid 1970s, when the football coach was fired for ignoring an order from the principal to stop his pre-game tradition of biting the head off a live frog. After his firing, the Commodores' 32-game regular season winning streak came to an end and they fell into more than 3 decades of The Suck.

Hey NT80,
I believe that record attendance game was again Port Neches Grove. Isn't that correct?

Denton High.
One of my favorite football memories was in 1967. DHS fought back against the Highland Park Scots 7-6 with no time remaining on the clock. Rather go for a tie (there was no extra periods then) the Broncos went for 2 and the win. We failed, but it was one of my proudest moments at Denton High School.
And playmaker is mistaken. The Broncos have had numerous athletic successes over the years. While I don't have a press guide in front of me, the women's soccer team went to back to back state title games. Basketball, at least in my day, was a frequent district / bi-district winner.
Right there with you. Also some good baseball teams through the years.
During my years, and my older siblings years, at DHS you had to win district to advance to the playoffs. None of this, finish third or fourth with a 4-8 record crap of today. Seems like every year we won 5-5A we had to play the 6-5A champion which always seemed to be Odessa Permian. We either played them in Odessa or in Midland. I remember once around 85 or 86 we played them at Fouts when they had Stoney Case at QB and Lloyd, the WR that played at Tech. It was in the low 30's with a strong north wind. First play of the game in to the wind, Permian play actions and hits Lloyd on a post pattern for a TD and they beat us 17-14, or something like that. That was our best chance to beat them and we let it slip away.

Town: Justin, Texas
Colors: Red and White
Notable HS successes: Not many. A few bi-district games in the 90's, and one district championship (IIRC) in the 50's or 60's. Unfortunately, we played in districts with powerhouses of the time such as Jacksboro, Bowie, SLC, etc.
Biggest rival from 70's to 80's: Decatur.

Town: Hamilton, Texas
Colors: Red, Black, and White
Mascot: Bulldogs
Notable High School Memory:
There are two that immediately come to mind, one strange and the other tragic. The odd one involved a football game against county-rival Hico. Hamilton (2,500) is the County seat of Hamilton County, and Hico (1,300) is the second largest city. We hate each other. It is not uncommon for the police to escort the visiting team back to their bus because brawls happen in the stands during and after the game, students to deface their rival's school/fieldhouse, or mess up the field leading up to the game. I think it was the 1997 game when the players broke out into a fight on the field, one of their players rushed our coaches, and it ERUPTED into a bench clearing brawl. The next time UIL redistricting occurred, the removed Hamilton and Hico from the same District. Hico got to play our traditional rivals, and we got stuck with a bunch of 2-3 hour bus trips against teams like Mason, Winters, and Coleman.
The tragic event occurred in October 1999. One of our starters had received a concussion a couple of games prior to the Homecoming game. He didn't want to tell the coaches about it for fear that they would pull him. After scoring a touchdown on Homecoming night, he was marching off the field when he just fell over. At that point he went into a coma, and never woke up. To this day, the weightroom and the auditorium at Hamilton is named in his honor.

On that note:
Western Hills
Colors: Green and Gold
Mascot: Cougars
Notable Successes: Not much, did win a state baseball title.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Isn't Hico a 6 man team? They host a big 6 man tournament/festival each year.
Hamilton huh? A good place to stop and get some Dublin Dr. Pepper, but watch it on 281 outside of town. Hamiton County's finest will be watching your speed. I know from recent experience.

Won the state championship 3 or 4 years ago. The school was founded in 1960 and until 2001 (I think) it had never played a football playoff game.

I went to Southwest High School, class of 1978
Colors: Red and Blue
Mascot: Rebels, always (no offense)
Now for the smack: First, if your rival was ANY Fort Worth school, there is no claim to fame for football. I moved after Soph year to the WHHS neighborhood, worked over there (Ridgmar Mall) and dated mostly girls from AHHS and WHHS...thank you Sound Town. Baseball was strong in FW, and basketball was also (mostly Dunbar...greatest fans ever, but every once in a while, SHS or some other FW school popped up).
SHS claim to fame: Brian Milner, the school's QB and punter, was named the only junior to the HS baseball All_American team in 1977. Led the state in HR's and had a rifle for an arm. Got a full ride scholly to Arizona State but was drafted by the Blue Jays. He went to the pros based on his worry that diabetes would limit his durability long-term. Signed a rather large upfront bonus of $150,000 and went straight to the pros, playing his first game on Monday Night Baseball (remember that?). Went 2 for 5, but threw two into CF trying to throw out base runners. The next night, he went 2 for 4, was then sent to the minors and broke his throwing arm in a home plate collision. Never made it back to the pros, but had a lifetime MLB batting average of .444. Oh, and Christopher Cross played our Senior prom!
His son, who just graduated from Paschal, signed with UT and Brian urged him to go the College route.

Nope, they are 2A.
You are right, Hamilton is a great place to get Dublins. If you want a greasy hamburger experience, visit Storm's Great Hamburgers on Highway 36 East. The special is comes with three patties (cheese is extra), and homecut fries. It passes the Simpsons test-- If the grease, makes the wrapper see through then you are good to go.
If you are on 281, stop at the Dutchman's Hidden Valley. Homemade bison jerky, sausage, and sandwiches. Saltwater taffy and lots of odd stuff.

Been there done all that... I'm familar with the 281 route. When going from New Braunfels to DFW and back I'd much rather take it over I-35. With the traffic through Austin, 281 and 35 are about the same time wise.

State champions in football for 19 consecutive years, all the way back through 1991. Ranked number one nationally in private school high school football.
And when he had opened the fourth suit, I heard the voice of the fourth assistant coach say, Come and see.
And I looked, and behold a pale suit: and his name that wore it was Benford, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the court, to kill with substitution, and with haplessness, and with dishonor, and with the beasts of the not-actually-coaching staff.
