North Texas head track coach Rick Watkins has added Dr. Robert Vaughan to the Mean Green’s coaching staff.
Vaughan will work with the Mean Green’s distance runners and cross country team. He fills the void left by Toby Reep, who left UNT’s staff to take a similar position at Louisiana-Monroe.
Vaughn has worked for the last 20 years as an exercise physiologist at the Baylor Tom Landry Center, a facility that helps train national class runners.
“People from all over the country would send their distance runners who were having issues or were looking for better ways to train to Dr. Vaughan,” Watkins said. “He also works with USA Track and Field in coaching education.
“It’s a great addition to have someone with that type of experience. It will help us bring more of the science of training into our distance program.”
Reep joined UNT’s coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in the spring of 2004.

I worked with Dr. Vaughan at the Landry Center. His hiring is a major feather in the hat for NT. He works with multiple Olympians every year and runs one of the most successful marathon training programs around. Great hire.
