UNT Basketball Stat Watch

Roosevelt Smart is now up to 669 points on the season. That is third in North Texas Single-Season history. Next up is Jon Manning (1978-1979), at 699. First is Kenneth Lyons (1982-1983) at 728. Smart is looking to join Lyons as the only NT players with 700 point seasons.

With 122 three-point field goals made, Smart is 10 away from cracking the top 10 in school history for career three-point field goals made.

Smart's 149 made free throws this season is 2 away from putting him in the top 10 in single-season school history. And is 2nd in school single-season history in free-throw percentage.

Ryan Woolridge's 196 assists this season is 2nd in school single-season history, to Walter "Weasel" Johnson's 1976-1977 season mark of 208 assists.

Woolridge's 263 career assists puts him at 8th in school history. Next up is Furmia Nealy at 269 career assists.

Among other things, this tournament has been a great way for these guys to pad their stats. Let me know if there are any other stats you think should be tracked. These guys are just sophomores and already are getting their names in the record book. Plenty of stat tracking to come with these two.

Woolridge is a heck of a player and would be great if he could hit his FT's. Somebody needs to correct his form and assign 100 a day through the summer and fall. He is explosive and very cool.  Can't wait to see how he develops the next two years. Going to be fun.

Smart is now up to 689 points on the season. Smart needs just 40 more points to set the single-season school record for points in a season. With at least two games left he has a really good shot at that. Needs 11 more to pass Jon Manning's 1978-1979 season mark of 699 to move into second in school single-season history.

Smart also now has 153 made free throws on the season, which is tied for 8th most in single-season school history. His 126 made threes has him just 6 away from breaking into the top 10 in school history for a career.

Woolridge is now up to 205 assists on the season, which means he is just four assists away from setting a new school single-season record. At 272 career assists, next up is Chris Jones who is 6th in school history at 282 career assists.

Some significant records that have been held for decades are in jeopardy of being broken. They were achieved in significantly less games, but still.

Not our best but some stats to update.

Zach Simmons' 22 rebounds tonight is tied for the 5th most in a single game in school history. Most in a game by a Mean Green player since George Odufuwa pulled down 24 against Cameron on 11/13/2009.

With 15 points tonight Smart's season total is now up to 704, which pushed him past Jon Manning's 1978-79 season total of 699 points and into second most in school single-season history. He is 24 points shy of Kenneth Lyons' record of 728 set back in 1982-83.

Woolridge's 3 assists tonight moved him into a tie with Walter Johnson's 1976-77 season mark of 208 assists. Next assist will give him the record.

Hope the guys get two more games to pad the stats. Gonna need a big effort next time out.

Stat recap for the CBI Champs:

This was our 2nd biggest win increase from the prior season in school history. 1975-76 saw a 16-win improvement from the prior season.

Roosevelt Smart set the single-season record for points in a season at North Texas tonight with 742 points on the season. Obviously aided by playing so many games, but we only played so many games because of how consistent a go-to guy he was.

His 133 made threes on the season not only annihilated the previous school record of 90, but it puts him at 10th in school history in career 3-pt made field goals.

His 167 made free throws is good for 5th most in a single season, and 221 made field goals is 7th in school single-seaon history. 88.8% from the free-throw line is the 2nd highest clip in school single-season history.

Ryan Woolridge set the mark for most assists in a season with 221. He is up to 288 career assists, which puts him at 6th in North Texas career assists. Also, his 52 steals this year was good for 8th most in school single-season history.

Last, at 66.2% Zach Simmons would have the highest season field-goal percentage in school history. Not sure if 154 shots is enough to qualify him, but if it is then he now holds that record.

I knew this had some feel of the Bill Blakeley days.  I think that 1 year turnaround is the stat that really matters.

How would one describe or quantify Simmons' game? He doesn't strike me as a true center, but he seems extremely efficient and present under the basket.

I think after a year in the weight room, he will resemble what is now defined as a true center.  have to remember he is just a freshman.  Plays well with his back to the basket, runs the floor well, and is a good rebounder.  I think he has the ability to go down in school history as one of the best 5's we have ever had
