After disappointing end to 2017, Nate Brooks and UNT look to bounce back

DENTON — Looking at the proverbial glass as half-full, the 2017 season was overwhelmingly positive for North Texas.

In year two under head coach Seth Littrell, the Mean Green played for their first conference title in Conference USA and went to a second consecutive bowl game. UNT, which finished 9-5, also had a chance for only the second 10-win season in school history.

However, looking at the flipside, the Mean Green finished the season 0-2 with blowout losses at Florida Atlantic in the C-USA Championship Game (41-17) and to Troy in the New Orleans Bowl (50-30).

And even several months later, the sting from those losses remains painful for Whitehouse product Nate Brooks, now a senior defensive back, and his teammates.

“Of course, we ended the year 0-2, didn’t accomplish our mission, so that’s still driving us today in our workouts and these practices. Just losing those two games and not accomplishing what we wanted to accomplish (still hurts),” Brooks said.

      Yep. They keep calling me to reup my FB season tickets and I just can't pull the trigger. No incentive. Silence around the program. Nobody up there is driving any type of excitement, spring football came and went with the least amount of coverage as I can ever remember which has led to me not really caring at this point. Things are more expensive, two kids in college and I have to decide if I want to make the drive, etc. Nobody working on Bonnie Brae Street is giving me any reason to at this point. I may just sit here and watch it on ESPN+

      SB vs. Texas A&M (4/17/24)

      Just watched the replay and the score is pretty deceiving to me. 1. Childers has got to get straightened out for us to have a shot the rest of the way. It looks like she is trying to overthrow and has lost her control. 2. This change in the rule for obstruction is complete bullshit. Christensen hosed a girl trying to steal second by three feet and the umpire, after adjusting his Aggie ring, called obstruction. It is ridiculous. There was no other way for Medford to field the throw. It is almost as if they are supposed to just let them have access to the base. I would love to hear the umpire's explanation, after he adjusts his Aggie ring, on how he expects us to defend that steal attempt. 3. That reversal led to their big inning and took a lot out of us. 4. Their homerun was basically a popup that the wind carried out. On the flip side, Gamble hit on off the wall, that if she elevated another ten feet, would have landed in Sanger. 5. We still seem to be a little passive at the plate. 6. We turned a beautiful 5-4-3 double play that they never showed a replay of. In the end, this game means nothing. Let's go sweep Memphis and finish out this season on a winning streak. Love watching these girls.

      Tennis Advances @ the AAC Tournament

      Played USF earlier in the year and lost a close match 3-4 so could be interesting. #12 seed UNT vs #5 seed USF. ECU was the #13 seed and the final score didn't show how close it had gotten. UNT won the doubles point and the first two singles matches in straight sets to go up 3-0, but the remaining matches went into the 3rd set and could have gone either way. Our #6 player pulled out a 6-4 third set to clinch the match, leaving 2 matches on the court still in the 3rd set. Good win for our young team. Hope it translates into some confidence tomorrow...they will need it! GMG
