Warning, this is a little off-topic, but this thread reminded me something I have noticed recently in my travels.

SMU has purchased prime billboards in quite a few major Texas city thoroughfare.  I have seen their "world changers" billboards which display a different scholarship athlete in Houston, Waco, San Antonio and Austin.  Always seems to be placed in a prime location and in the case of Waco and Austin right on 35E as you pass the football stadium.   It seems they are trying to get more traction in Texas cities outside of DFW.

I would like to see us do similar but I realize that doing this can't be cheap.  When I was in school we had a good amount of students from Houston and Austin and other Texas cities.  Obviously we want to focus our resources in DFW, and I am certain that is still the case but it wouldn't hurt to keep working on spreading the gospel throughout the state.

Billboards sounds great and all, but I don't think they move the needle at all for anyone. I would rather see us send folks to college fairs and speak on HS campuses. I honestly cannot say the last time I actually looked at a billboard and I doubt many HS students pay them much mind.

Agree.

Ironically, it seems the only signs I ever look at on the road are the ones that say, "Do signs work?   JUST DID!!"

Yeah, and those signs are missing the entire point. You remember those kinds of signs because they are funny and you decide to remember them. The problem there is, (if were tied to a brand) can you remember the brand or company that placed the sign? Recall is the single most important part of any advertisement. If you cannot associate what you remember with the brand or product, then the ad did not do anything for the company that placed it. The one exception of a group that is focused only on the message and not the product (anti-smoking or something of that nature).

When I was stationed at Ft. Hood I would see UNT billboards in Killeen advertising how vet friendly UNT was. It worked on me at least.
