Makes me curious that all these O-Linemen with no other offers they keep signing might be complete whiffs.

I mean you have a crop of what, 5 RS freshman in the wings, and you're not confident enough to plug any of them in? Maybe their OL evaluations have been bad...

You don't want addition depth? I thinks it's a good idea not to put all eggs in one basket. Mose was ready to step in last year. But injuries can happen. Better to be prepared. Can never have too much depth.

You aren’t talking about this guy, right?  He has offers from 5 other FBS schools listed in his 247 profile.

No,
He's talking about dudes like Cole Brown, Jordan Redfearn, Jevin Pahinui & Jalen Thomas

Jevin was hurt last year. Cole and Jordan are both big athletic prospects alot like brammer. At a g5 school you have to get athletic guys you can develop. And developing takes sometime longer than one or two semesters. Jalen stepped in several times last year and played when Murray went down and played well. I picture that envision Preston the same way a guy that can back up both tackles and guards positions. The starting RT is one of three guys right now. 2 of which had over 5 fbs offers.

I think the biggest issues is having 20+ OL on scholarship.. it eats into the depth issues on the DL/LB and other spots

There is 5 ol spots we will have 20+ schollys

With 3-3-5 there is 6 dl/lb starting spots we will have 20+ schollys

Games are won in trench's can never have too many.

I agree we need depth, but if we look at the #s. The guys brought in by the staff have not shown themselves in terms of starting on the OL. Henson, Mayfield are the only ones to start the whole year, the JUCO center as well took over mid year. It’s encouraging yes, but under SL we have signed something like 10 or more HS OL on top of 4/5 more JUCOs/Transfers.

I’m just hoping I’m the future we can have classes of 3 OL, and 4/5 DL/LB then the rest at the skill spots. Also my biggest concern and sorry to derail this kids thread because he will likely have an impact for us next year is the HS OL paired with the likely RS of the QBs is nearly 1/3 of the class won’t even had a chance to see the field and this is when we need to be reinforcing the team with play now guys such as Preston.

Depth is one thing. I understand depth.

I want guys that can actually make a difference, not guys that are just gonna take up a roster spot. Granted, we don't know what we have yet because we haven't seen practices/games with the new guys. S. Mose stepped in and played well, but Murray is still a concern and we have to replace the RG/RT.

The same thing is happening throughout the defensive front 7.

I have no faith in this staff when it comes to bringing in HS players on the OL or defensive front 7. Have they brought any in among these 10-12 positions from high school that have played with consistency or are projected to be difference makers among their peers? It's only the position groups that win championships, no biggie. And we all know JUCO players are textbook hit and miss gambles.

Numbers don't necessarily equal depth.   There seems to be a lot more offensive linemen at NT than any other position that never significantly contribute.  It is concerning that NT is recruiting juco ol when they already have so many on ship.

A rare good word from me on Dickey, he seemed to have a very good running game and he didn't give out close to the ships to the ol that both McCarney and Littrell have done.

Just to put things in perspective he had offers from

FCS:  Northern Colorado, SE Louisiana, Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Florida A&M, Alabama A&M,  Samford, SE Missouri St, Tennessee Tech, Northern Arizona, Fordham,  Youngstown State, Arkansas- Pine Bluff, Indiana State, University of Tennesee Martin, Saint Francis,  Maine, Portland State, Abilene Christian, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, North Carolina Ag and Tech State University,

FBS: New Mexico State, UTEP, Kent State, Akron, UNT, Ohio

why are we not more more excited than we are?? 6 FBS offers, 22 FCS offers.  Kid can obviously ball. KU and Oregon state showed a lot of interest, think he was just lower on the board.

I think people are excited, they're just expressing their concerns with the OL group as a whole in the wrong thread. Once again, another thread derailed when a new topic could have easily been started.

I can't wait to see what he does here.

Not to be that guy, but Marshall this year has 3 RS-FR playing on their OL and they allowed something like 20 sacks. I get us getting depth, but this OL is nearly 4 entire OLs deep..

Love this addition, and feel like Preston is a huge OL add to the right side, but the concern (and I stated this earlier about getting off topic in thread and tried to pull it back on topic) was about depth and how Preston and the younger OL affect it.

Preston seems like a plug and play right off the bat because of the offer list (believe it was like 21-27 offers, and 50+ schools talked to him according to 24/7). But adding a kid like Carroll for example (when we have multiple RS-FR OL) in front of him just seems eating another scholarship when we have Mose, Weatherspoon, Brown, on top of Woodworth, the JUCO OL from last year (I will Butcher  his name if I tried) along with Barr, and the Aubrey kid (who is a BS (blueshirt)).  To me, we talk about developing kids.. buts it’s hard to develop them with starters get a majority of snaps during game week, backups get a majority of the remaining.. the 3rd/4th team OLs are not getting much (if any) truly meaningful snaps.

I say bring in 5 ol every year.

1qb

1 RB

2 wr

1 te

5 ol

3 dl

3 lb

5 db

1 specialist

With 3 schollys to play with.

Fyi I don't think Carroll is still headed here. Alot like TE last year I think offer is no longer good. I may be wrong thought

I’d rather see 3-4 OL and bump up that DL/LB number. One thing you see at larger schools that are successful are the continued wave after wave of DL and pass-rushers.

Not to poo-poo or anything but I do kind of hope something comes up with the Carroll situation. Feel like that scholarship is needed  for a more impactful addition or another spot.

Right, and we could have 2/3 next year also.  They RS this season so can’t have a chance until next season

We have the likes of Parish, Newman, Moses, Brammer, Weatherspoon that just RS.. we have heard good things (but again it’s been said on here, and I don’t recall an exact article/post in which it was said or just  hearsay). But to me, Parish can’t do much worse than Murray getting Fine nearly killed 2 or 3 times every game.. Moses was said if he had 2-4 inches taller he would be a P5 Guy..
