With all this QB talk, does Wilson get to 1,000?

With games of 157, 188, and 160 against Rice, Marshall, and Army, Jeffrey Wilson is sitting at 724 yards on the season with 12 touchdowns.

Dunbar ran for 1,197 in 2011.  Does Wilson realistically have a shot at that this year?

He's on pace for 1,241 by the end of the regular season, so yeah. Also on pace for almost 21 touchdowns by the end of the regular season. And his current average is deflated by that Florida game. I expect him to up his average going forward.

..."going forward" and....."at the end of the day?"   That phrase is viral even on all the networks.   "It is what it is" runs a close 2'nd!   LOL!

GMG!

With a game to spare, maybe two.

It's really crazy to think of the string of RBs we have had since our return to 1A/FBS.

  • JaQuay Wilburn (3120 yards)
  • Patrick Cobbs (3911)
  • JaMario Thomas (3496)
  • Lance Dunbar  (4224)

Jeff Wilson is at 1778 with almost a year and a half to go.

Don't forget Byrd went over 1,000 yards in 2013.

If only Super Mario could have stayed healthy.  His numbers would have been out of this world.

I think Wilson will rush for more than Dunbar did in 2011

And three of those guys played in offenses that "featured" a back.  Wilson has never been a 30 carry a game guy.

It's true that Wilson only averages just over 15 carries a game but he is averaging about 5.7 yards per carry over his career.  Barring injury (bite my tongue), and extrapolating that out over the remaining games, he would surpass Wilburn and Thomas on the all-time list.  I don't know that he could surpass Cobbs or Dunbar even if we are lucky enough to be in two division championships and two bowl games before he hangs them up but if he keeps improving it is possible.

He can get it this week if the OC feeds him the ball early and often.  UTEP had 4.2 a carry versus UTSA Saturday night, and had a back for for 113.

I hear the Roadrunners were so desperate for linebackers after last season that they spent the offseason offering scholarships to players with no other FBS offers except  UTEP. So, there's always that as well.

Their defense is allowing a ton of points, with the exception of Rice.  You got any HSO about why that happened, and should we be worried about that defense showing up against us?
