So at the coaches show the trivia question was about the last QB to go 3-2 at UNT. It turns out UNT has never started he season 3-2 in division 1 football. Seth keeps making history if he wins this week!

It seems a lot of people are not aware that NT was in the highest division of football for many years before the drop to 1aa.

Exactly! I just checked and we were 4-1 in 66, 4-0-1 in 67, 4-1 in 68 and 3-2 in 69 while in the NCAA University (Major college) division.

That included wins over Louisville, Colorado State, New Mexico State and UTEP.

So instead of the best start in over 100 years, it would be the best start since 1994.

North Texas football data here.

Yes, it's understandable how people who have only been following us for 10 years or so can only think of football ineptitude, but that period (sans the Dallas Bowl year) is really the only truly horrible period in our history. Plenty of so called big-time football schools have had similar periods of ineptitude.

Well, I guess simply dropping down to 1AA also qualifies as a horrible period, but at least we weren't bad in that classification. We could have been better, but we never quite seemed to be able to get over the hump to becoming a 1AA power.

Looking at the site I linked to above, we have 24 conference championships since 1913. Yes, a bunch of those were in the Lone Star and Gulf Coast conference but you can only win the championship of conferences of which you are a member.

This kind of stuff is inexcusable. I know we have new people on board but the SID should be responsible for getting the correct information out, not more confusion.   Come to think of it, what kind of mental giant would even think that a school that has been playing football for over 100 years has never started 3-2 before? The odds for that happening would be tremendous.

How many people would believe that North Texas had number 1 draft choices in 1969, 1970, and 1971 ?  I know it seems impossible.  Joe Greene was chosen in the first round in 1969  by Pittsburgh, Cedric Hardman was chosen in 1970 in the first round by San Fran, and Leonard Dunlap was chosen in the 1971 in the first round by the then Baltimore Colts.

You know what happened ?  Rod Rust, not a name that is revered by North Texas fans today despite having 3 number 1 picks in a row, was let go after the 1972 season and was replaced by Hayden Fry.  Fry (google Hayden Fry-all his pictures show him wearing Iowa gear.  No NT and no Southern Meth), came to town and convinced many, me included, that we should drop out of the MVC and go independent and we were never heard from again.

Look I didn't hear the broadcast, but before we tar and feather anyone lets remember the "2-2" debacle.

On the air the broadcast team said this was the first 2-2 start since we returned to 1A/FBS.  However someone misheard/misunderstood that to mean first 2-2 start ever and then came and posted it on the board.

A lot of people got upset pointing out we had gone 2-2 before, but the broadcast team clearly said that it was "since we returned to FBS."

I didn't hear the broadcast, I don't know what was said, and I do love a good tar and feathering.  But lets make sure it's for an actual mistake.

Just now, Andrew said:

Was anyone at the coaches show who can confirm this?

The trivia question was who was the last QB to start at 3-2. I don't really recall them going into much detail about when the last time a team started their season at 3-2.

Mitch Maher (sp?). I think the year mentioned was 1993. I do specifically remember it being mentioned that it was before the end zone seating was added.

So the question did not even refer to when we've played in the top division?  The O.P. is in need of some serious editing.

Easy there.  It wasn't the athletic department that misstated anything here.  The question was who was the last QB to start 3-2, not the only QB.  I'm not sure where @Andrew got his information in his "it turns out" statement above.

Oh, and if anyone wants to listen to the show, here is the link: http://www.kntu.com/2016/09/27/seth-littrell-show/
