IRVING – North Texas junior safety Kishawn McClain and freshman wide receiver Tyler Wilson each earned player of the week honors following their standout performances in the double overtime win at Rice this past week, Conference USA announced Monday. McClain garnered Defensive Player of the Week acclaim, while Wilson was named Special Teams Player of the Week. C-USA Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media members.

McClain had a monster game for the Mean Green, as they topped Rice 42-35 in double overtime on Saturday in Houston, near McClain’s hometown of Rosenberg. He totaled 10 tackles, which ranked second most on the team, intercepted his second pass of the season, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup in the win. The preseason all-conference selection was constantly making big plays for the Mean Green as the defense played a huge role in North Texas’ first road win since 2013.

Wilson has been a large factor in several facets of the special teams game thus far this season for the Mean Green. On Saturday at Rice, he averaged 33.3 yards per kickoff return, including a big 41-yard return to open the second half.
