The Break Down: Portland St

When you study Portland St you see a team that is very much capable of beating North Texas on Saturday. They are physical, pretty sound fundamentally, not overly fast, and well coached.

On offense its all about their pistol rushing attack. NT has to stick to their assignments otherwise their QB Kuresa will burn them. Its the typical do your job and dont worry about being a hero game. They are very one dimensional, but dont expect them to just line up in 3 TEs and run straight at us either. First play last week against North Dakota was a 5 WR set and a deep throw to Penn.

Their OL really struggles in pass blocking. I feel like our guys should have plenty of opportunity to get to the QB.

Worried about their ability to hit plays off of play action. We seem to struggle with that.

Yes their run defense is stingy, but its more of who they've played than anything. Still though they will fly down hill and tackle well.

Primarily a zone pass defense team try to keep everything in front of them.

If you listen to our podcast I like give out information call them McNuggets well here is 2

They've only given up 16 pass plays over 15 yards. North Texas has given up 25

They would rank top 15 in yards per pass attempt defense in FBS. North Texas ranks 109 in yards per pass attempt offense. The numbers would be Portland St gives up 5.6 ypa. NT gets 5.6 ypa.

Jeffery Wilson, you're our only hope.

Fred Scott, Blake Bean. The DL. Those guys can make some plays that make life tough on Portland St.

If the defense decides to find their huevos and man up in this game they could make it a long day for Portland St.

Wilson is gonna get his. Im more interested in who shows up on the D.

but only after coach fan boy Jim Jim gets his, can't have the coaches favorite be outshined the whole time

I think the factor that gets us over the hump is the homefield advantage. If these same teams were playing in Portland, I'd think it'd be victory to the FCS team.

Careful man. RV reads this forum. Portland could very well be our next home and home series...

this is simply not true. sure the sub patterns are whacky but jimmy is not a favorite. he is a 5th year senior that got beat out by a true sophomore.

I say fan boy when you see Wilson make large gains only to be pulled and Jim Jim then runs 3 straight for nothing, not his fault but poor coaching and subbing. Could give a crap he is a 5th Senior, should be who is playing the best plays, but the ole ball coach does not like gamers and wants to make sure his square players fit into a circle offense.

Great read as usual. I hope the defense shows up and is fired up like they were against SMU.

Hope they play more than three quarters. They were a no show in the fourth quarter at SMU! If they were tired it was cause 1) they were not in shape 2) SMUs offense was dragging them up and down the field for the whole fourth quarter. IMHO SMU was the most winnable of all our losses. We simply did not want it enough in the fourth quarter!

Orrrrr we watched one of the most inexplicably ill-coached games ever and our poor defense got the worst end and result of that stick.
