DeShun Qualls led his team to a win in his final high school game.

The Jersey Village quarterback, who inked with Abilene Christian as a wide receiver, threw two touchdown passes in the West's 14-9 win over the East two weeks ago in the Bayou Bowl at Rhodes Stadium.

"It was very rewarding to see that because he knows he's going to the next level to play probably a slot receiver, or that type of deal," Jersey Village coach David Snokhous said. "But he proved he still has that ability to go play that position, and do it very well."

Snokhous was quick to nominate Qualls for the Bayou Bowl after a productive career under center at Jersey Village.

The 5-11, 175-pound athlete threw for 5,049 yards and 49 touchdowns and rushed for 2,714 yards and 25 TDs in his high school career, bringing him offers from Nevada, New Mexico and North Texas.

"He was a three-year starter and team leader and did everything we asked him to do, so he deserved that opportunity," Snokhous said.

Qualls connected with Katy Taylor's Brayten Kubecka for a 41-yard completion on the West's first possession. Qualls and Kubecka again hooked up on their third drive, this time for a touchdown and 7-0 lead.
