New Bowl Games official

Looks like the AAC is climbing in bed with the SBC with the Austin & Orlando bowls. Spite much? Enjoy the casual football fan's equation of AAC & SBC.

Meanwhile, C-USA adds the Tucson bowl with the MWC. Obviously, there was talk several years ago about a C-USA/MWC merger, so it only makes sense that we strengthen the bond with the MWC anyway.

So, what will a successful season look like for North Texas going forward? (84 out of 127 FBS schools going to bowls - 66%). To get enough teams eligible they will have to lower the number of wins to 5. (5-7 season gets you in) This has become a much easier job and paycheck for Dan McCarney. He's probably on the couch now calling up former teammates for his next QB.

the telling statement in that artlcle: "sources told ESPN.com." What happened to the Little Rock one?

Didn't have their finances all together. Soon as LR announced they were out, Austin called the Sun Belt and got a contract signed. CUSA had agreed but never signed the contract.

Way too many Bowl games

Why are there deserving teams left out each and every year then? To say there are too many games is to say you support the four team made for TV farce that is the pseudo " National Championship". The bowls are all that are left for the G5 and even then fourth and lower place finishers from the P5 are taken first. If you want a fair system no one who finishes worse than fourth place in their conference should ever be invited no matter if they have six wins. But TV would never stand for that!

Lifes a bitch sometimes and you get left out, thats how life is. Just like Cooley said above, that 66% of the teams in the FBS go to bowl games and that they will have to start taking 5 win teams to fill all the bowl games. How many wins do these "deserving teams" that are left out have? If they didnt win enough games, then thats their own fault and maybe they should try a little harder next year.

I am not looking for a fair system, I am looking for competitive bowl game and not two teams that are playing each other with 5 or 6 wins. If UNT has 6 wins next year and they get left out of the bowl games, will I be pissed, you bet your ass I will be but maybe they need to win 7 or 8 next year. Life is not about handing a trophy to everyone that has participated but to the ones that worked hard and earned it.

There are definitely too many bowl games, no matter how much I love football.

Exactly. People make fun of the CBI and CIT (and even NIT) in college basketball, but even including those there around 130 schools out of roughly 350 that play in the post season. In other words, you have to be pretty dang good.

In football 67% of the schools that play end up in a bowl. It's not even a reward at that point.

BOwls make money--either by network space for advertising or from attendance or both. Until they dont, expect more cities to clamor for a bowl. The CVB of each city that hosts a bowl game love it--you are getting peiople to come to your town during a very sparce time for tourism--generally. Does Austin need a bowl game? No, but it makes money.

Never been to Tuscon. Can anyone who has share if that is a potentially fun trip?

Sonoran desert is beautiful, and Tucson is fairly scenic. Lots of golf, and casinos close by. Good amount of shopping, particularly for Native American stuff, and lots of watering holes. Some local attractions there as well. It's a fine destination for a bowl. Should be a fun trip.

Going to a bowl should still be an award. Just imagine when we still fall into that 33%.

The Sonoran desert is ~3 hours away.

That's like telling someone who's coming to the Ft. Worth Bowl game that the TX Hill Country is beautiful.

But I'm going to the game for sure if the Mean Green are in!

Ain't nothing going on in Tucson.

The college Presidents are the one who get to vote on bowl standards. For over a decade they have been clear as a group that any team with a .500 record should get a bowl game as a reward. If there is a reduction in bowl games, it will be a reduction in the games for G5 schools, not for P5 schools! 7 win WSU will be invited over 8 win Colorado Stat or North Texas. Wishing for fewer bowls means NT doesn't go. Period.

I love Tucson. It's warm, there is hiking and the college bars are a blast.

I would be happy if we played in this game and even happier if we can make it back to Dallas!
