Looks like two Southern Miss players now ineligible

In today’s sign that it isn’t easy being green, it appears that two Southern Miss players who contributed to the Golden Eagles slump-busting win over UNT just a few days ago are about to be declared ineligible.

A couple of major national media outlets are reporting that Rasham Suarez and Jeremiah Eason won’t play for the Golden Eagles the rest of the year.

That would be a huge hit for Southern Miss, which is seeing its program quickly slide into a huge hole after last year’s NIT season. Coach Donnie Tyndall left for Tennessee after the season.

An NCAA investigation soon followed. Southern Miss placed itself on a year’s postseason ban the week it played the Mean Green.

Southern Miss has just one C-USA win all season, a 75-71 overtime win over the Mean Green on Saturday.

Again, the NCAA shows it's absolute ineptitude in allow the former coach Donnie Tyndall to have all of these infractions and walk away scot-free at Tennessee.... just like James Franklin who had the rapes occur at Vanderbilt etc.....

I'm from Tennessee, so I grew up a Tennessee fan, and I've been following this situation all year. And it looks like Tyndall will be fired. The Tennessean and Andy Katz, among others, have been saying so for over a week. At first the reports were that the likely penalty was just going to be a 5-game suspension for Tyndall, but that's gotten increasingly worse over the last month.

The situation all started when Tennessee got a commitment right before the fall signing period from SG/SF Chris Clarke, a top 50 national player from Virginia. It looked like he was a lock to Virginia Tech, then he suddenly committed to Tennessee. Apparently Tennessee didn't play nice to get him.

Much like Mississippi State with Cam Newton, or Kansas State with Tony Mitchell, the spited school (Buzz Williams and Virginia Tech) alerted the NCAA, causing Clarke to decommit from Tennessee and sign with Virginia Tech, and we had ourselves an investigation underway.

But yeah, Tyndall is probably going to get fired before the season ends.

Tyndall's contract at Tennessee allows the school to fire him for cause if he's found to have committed an NCAA Level I or Level II violation "whether the conduct occurred during (Tyndall's) employment with the university or another NCAA-member institution."

Also, I wonder if USM is forced to forfeit their victory over UNT.

One win closer to .500 for Benford.

Not sure, but I thought if games were vacated after-the-fact, then the W/L is not factored into either team's schedule. It's like the game never existed.

Or it could be what you suggested. ANyone know for sure?

Yeah, that's how it usually is. Wins are just not recorded in the record books/vacated. When teams vacate national titles there is no retroactive national championship given to the runner up. Just like Joe Paterno's vacated (now restored) wins were not flipped from losses to wins in the other schools' record books.

Wonder if the same language is in UNT coaching contracts...

Just think of all the possibilities for you here to have something else to complain about. What fun! Heck, it certainly wouldn't matter if you actually knew what you were talking about or not. The possibilities here for you are simply endless. There in never any joy in Mudville for UNT90. But, the sky is always falling. Can't wait for the possibilities of prose you will bring.

OR...

I could just legitimately be wondering if we are smart enough to include such language.

Losing record in men's basketball, women's basketball, and football indicate the sky is falling far more than anything I say.

And so it begins...endless possibilities...so, how's that AD doing at So Miss? Got any opinions on his possible job status? And, what about that new coach letting these kids play? You know, he is responsible, right? Just kids...came to play BB...who needs academics, right?

Cheating or not, we're the only school in CUSA who Southern Miss has beaten all school year in football or Men's basketball. Their men's team might really have trouble finding another win on their schedule with all the other stuff they're going through.

we only play them once this season?

Well, it took a lot longer than it should've, but Tyndall was fired. The big school was punished after all.
