Nebraska offered. We have still not offered Wilson yet. The only QB we have offered to this point is Easton Underwood, from Jackson, TN. With spring football over I expect to see the offers start flying out, as we have gotten off to a slow start (for example, we have offered about 43 kids this class while SMU has offered closer to 90).

I fully expect a QB this class. It seems like just a matter of time until Chumley is moved to tight end, and Means did not have a good spring, plus this staff still appears set on putting Kevin Dillman at tight end. We could really use a good QB this class.

matter of time, as in please do it NOW so we have 3 tight ends this year and 1 who can grow and mature while not having to be the man. Well, never mind I take that back, we do have 3 one just isn't on campus yet in Dillman, I expect him to play this year and not redshirt, what do you think Billy? I hope they move Chumley sooner rather than later, those two could be dynamic for years to come.

We also signed Tight End Kelvin Smith, so if we move Chumley to tight end that would give us 3 true freshmen tight ends (Smith, Dillman, and Chumley).

I still think we need to move Dillman to QB. Dude wasn't just being recruited, he was legitimately being offered by the powerhouses of college football. He was throwing in front of coaches like Jimbo Fisher, Gus Mahlzahn, Dabo Swinney, and Butch Jones and they were all impressed enough in person to offer. We don't need him to be a Heisman-caliber QB. You couple that potential with his work ethic and plenty of time to develop, and I think he has a better chance to be a solid-CUSA level QB than our other young QBs (Means and Chumley). Means still has time, but it's his second spring and he still isn't even pushing our other QBs, who have not proven to be good CUSA QBs. We could really use another legitimate option for the future, and I think Dillman could be that while Chumley is not. Then there's the enigma that is Dajon Williams.

Either way, we really need a good QB this class.

I'm beginning to think that the QB position just isn't important to this staff, as crazy as that may seem.

If you asked Coach Mccarney to name as many class of 2016 QBs as he could, I would honestly be surprised if he could name half the names that another FBS head coach could. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the indication I get.

Billy I talked today with Coach Walsh from Guyer and I asked him what are his thought about Kevin. His first response was he will make a great TE in college. He said he is putting on the muscle his body will be ready and his mind is solid but he is not a D1 QB. He was asking about our TE situation I told him we have 2 pretty solid upper classmen. He said well I dont think he will need to redshirt to be ready to play at D1 level. He could go out and play day from day 1 on the mental and physical standpoint.

I respect Coach Walsh's opinion, but I would also imagine he would not have thought our other young scholarship QBs were D1 guys either (Means or Chumley). Means completed just 49% of his passes as a high school senior, so I doubt he could've played for Walsh and it could've been the same thing where Walsh encouraged Means to move to tight end. There's no doubt in my mind that Walsh wouldn't have thought Chumley was a D1 QB either, because he isn't. Our starting QB didn't have any other D1 offers, and wasn't really even close to any others. Hell, even Dajon only had one other offer, and it was from an FCS school in Montana. It's absurd to me that a kid talented enough to get offers to play quarterback (all Dillman's offers were as a QB, not any other position) at schools like Florida State, Auburn, Nebraska, Tennessee, Clemson, etc could never be hoped to be developed to the point where he could compete with the type of QBs we have.

I understand Dillman is a steal at tight end, and could contribute from Day 1. I just think with his work ethic, obvious talent, all of his eligibility and redshirt remaining to develop, and our dire situation with the future of our quarterback position that he could easily see the field. Keep in mind, here's another QB who was never going to see the field at Guyer and transferred out after not being able to beat out Shawn Robinson.

David Moore, with 17 FBS offers.

Anyways, my stance on Dillman hasn't changed, but I won't be too upset about him not being given a chance if we can find a good young QB this class. Because we really, really need one.

Why we aren't in on David Moore is beyond me. True, he has 17 offers, but there isn't one team on that list that we should not be able to recruit against. It is loaded with G5's and lower P5's. It would be nice if Vito would do a story on what UNT/McCarney/Chico look for in a QB.

Maybe Vito should do a story on what UNT's coaches look for in a QB. Based on what I've seen, I wouldn't think they are leading the pack in QB evaluations and don't put much stock in their opinion. Regarding Walsh, a large number of D1 coaches would disagree with his assessment of Dillman based on his offer sheet entering his senior year. Walsh is just lucky he has such a good recruiting system at Guyer. Wait, did I say that?

Who wants to come here to play QB?

I'm with you though, it's head scratching. If you take our roster into consideration and the amount of offers not on the table you would think we are talking about recruiting extra point holders rather than the most important position on the team. Coming out of right field here, but maybe D. Smith is going to in fact be eligible or has already been deemed eligible and they are putting a ton of stock in him to produce. That's the only reasoning I can think of at this point. Or maybe it's what has been stated on here several times, Dan McCarney just doesn't value the QB position for some unfathomable reason and will just pick up scraps at the end of the recruiting cycle or bring in a meddling juco guy with little talent. Whatever it is it's apparent that it's not working.

Whether or not Damarcus Smith gets eligible has nothing to do with why you would or wouldn't take a QB in 2016. Damarcus Smith, if everything works out perfectly and he gets and stays eligible, will be our QB in 2015 and 2016. A class of 2016 QB signee would most likely redshirt in 2016, so by the time they finished their redshirt year Smith would be gone no matter what. As would Mcnulty and Greer.

Which means the QBs currently on our roster who would affect how hard we recruit 2016 QBs would be Dajon, Means, and Chumley. Mainly Means and Chumley, since Dajon is 3 grades ahead of these kids. You would have to feel very confident in those 3 in order to not take a QB in 2016. Dajon, who knows how his career will play out over the next few years given how he and this coaching staff just don't seem to match well, and Means was not good in high school and hasn't beaten anyone out here, and Chumley probably won't stick at QB. And then we aren't giving Dillman a shot.

I just don't see this coaching staff taking the measures necessary towards making the future of our QB situation better than our current one. Although signing a good 2016 QB would be a good step towards that.
