Is the company or driver responsible for any financial/legal mess if the fire spreads to the grass and - worst case scenario - into private land?

I'm sure insurance plays into that but am curious what you know. I suppose the company will gladly pay some-thousand dollars if it meant saving a truck that was $300,000+.

Just a guess, but If it's a freeway in a city the state owns it and they probably could care less since they won't have to mow it for a season? If it's county and it reaches a privately owned field/property and does significant damage to something then I could see a legal battle looming?

The reason I differentiate city and county is it's not going to get out of hand in a city. They respond too quickly usually. In rural county areas the response time can be significant, giving the fire time to take off.
