I like this kid a lot, he's got some breaks on him and can put a move and be gone in no time. This kid would be great here but would we even try and recruit another RB in this class. Also in all honesty, why would this kid decommit and come here? I am not saying that we dont have anything going for us but this kid is from Southern Arkansas and La Tech is only 45 minutes away.

Could not find an up to date stat sheet for this kid but there is this back woods article that says he has 3,987. Its a paragraph at the very bottom

I know this is an effort on your part to push why we should do more out-of-state recruiting and get more kids outside of the DFW, where we would have less competition. And I agree that we do need to look out for those hidden gems, in those areas like Arkansas, Louisiana, Memphis, and even Alabama and Mississippi.

Here's why we're not taking Dancy. We currently have a logjam of 4 freshman running backs on scholarship. And 3 are pretty darn good. I don't think we'll take any this class. If we are to take a back this class (or ever from Arkansas, with this staff) then he needs to have something our backs don't have, which he doesn't. Dancy is a multi-step cut guy. Whereas Jeffery Wilson is elite, as a one-step cut guy, who can not only take just one cut, but accelerate quickly out of that cut as well. Ivery also has better high school film and Evans has proven he can make plays at the D1 level, so we just have essentially no need there.

Good backs are a dime a dozen. There's a reason that's the position we haven't had trouble with in years. That, and the fact that we've gotten some really good backs to come to UNT over some solid programs. If we're going to recruit those states, it should be more for position like offensive and defensive line, maybe linebackers. Front 7 kids who are very raw but have the length, frame, and potential to be good players.

I've read quotes where kids from some of these states say they never lifted in high school. Never! I know that's more of the exception than the rule, but the point is these kids over there don't have near the coaching or weight programs that you see in the DFW. Therefore much higher learning curves than players from these big-time local programs. You get a kid who's 6'5" 250 lbs over there with good natural strength and athleticism, and he's never had a real weight program, you'll see him quickly make huge gains.

A lot like Antonio Johnson, who is from East Texas, which is where I believe we have our own piece of that in this state. Low exposure, not quite the top-level coaching, and a high D1-players-per-capita-rate. Much like a lot of the SEC states. And we've shown we can win recruiting battles out there.

I agree on leaving no stones unturned in recruiting, especially in these places that are within an 8-10 drive from Denton. But ultimately it's going to come down to winning recruiting battles for kids (especially in the DFW), finding small town Texas kids to develop, and finding a few out of state kids here and there and developing them. We don't have to outrecruit Texas, A&M, and OU to get solid, CUSA level players. We just need to win recruiting battles like these with more frequency.

I agree with everything you said, everything. Dancy and Jackie Harvell could and maybe might one day in college transition to slot and be really good. Just bc they play RB in 2A doesn't mean that is where they would help a college team. Usually your best athlete is at RB in 2A regardless of size or natural play at that position. However, Dancy is probably at his natural position of RB. Jackie Harvell could play slot or safety in college and IMO doesn't translate very well as a college RB. I believe Jackie is a Jr this year so there is wiggle room for openings and time for someone to maybe evaluate this kid. From my understanding he was invited to visit Arkansas at WMS before the Georgia game and he went and met Bielema on the sideline. Dude is a stud and is basically unknown outside the state of Arkansas.

And this isn't really me trying to prove a point that UNT isn't trying to recruit these type players. I follow high school football in Arkansas pretty closely and these 2 are by far and away the best 2 athletes in 2A and will without a doubt make the All-Arkansas team that includes all classifications.
