  2. It’s the Sunday afternoon before national signing day and the pieces are starting to fall into place for UNT. Here is where things stand as of now: – As we reported earlier, Elkhart running back Jeffery Wilson committed to UNT following his weekend visit. We will have more on him in tomorrow’s paper. He was one of the more productive small school backs in the state. I have mentioned that he could develop into more of a power back on the college level. I meant that as a comparison to Willy Ivery, who is a smaller, quicker guy in the class. The bottom line is that anyway one slices it, Wilson is a good get. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/02/sunday-afternoon-recruiting-notes.html/

  5. After making a few phone calls this afternoon, here is where UNT stands as we head down the stretch in football recruiting. I swapped messages with top defensive end target Xavier Washington. The Cedar Hill standout had a good time at Houston, but UNT is still very much in the hunt and will receive an official visit next weekend. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2014/01/sunday-night-recruiting-update-2.html/
  6. Tillman Johnson, a defensive end from Round Rock McNeil, will visit UNT next weekend and will soon decide between two finalists for his commitment — UNT and Texas State. Johnson, 6-2, 241, committed to Texas State over the summer. UNT offensive coordinator Mike Canales is recruiting Johnson, who was a first-team All-District 16-5A selection as a senior in addition to being an academic all-district pick. Johnson will visit UNT next weekend and then will visit Texas State on Jan. 24. “That will be the deciding factor,” Johnson said of his two visits. Tweet him congratulations.
  8. I stopped by UNT basketball practice today to pick up some material for the paper and the blog. The video at the top is one I shot with UNT men’s head coach Tony Benford and senior guard Alzee Williams. UNT’s win 61-41 over Texas A&M on New Year’s Eve kind of got lost in the euphoria of the Mean Green’s win over UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. That’s understandable. 9. UNT recruits had a heck of a run in the state championship games over the last few days at AT&T Stadium. UNT wide receiver recruits O’Keeron Rutherford and Tee Goree both had big games while helping lead Carthage past Kilgore in the Class 3A, Division I state title game. Rutherford (three catches, 79 yards) and Goree (three catches, 51 yards and 44 rushing yards, two touchdowns) look like really good gets for UNT. 10. Xavier Washington, a defensive end from Cedar Hill who is pretty high on UNT’s wish list when it comes to players in the Class of 2014, had a huge game last week. We mentioned that a few days ago. Turns out we weren’t the only ones who noticed. Read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2013/09/unt-recruiting-target-up-for-three-awards.html/
