  1. At Locust Grove, Mason Fine was our punter also, but we rarely punted. Here are his stats. He rolled out and I assume made a decision to throw, run or punt. A lot of the time on 4th down we used the swinging gate formation, but sometimes normal spread formation. You can see as he got more mature, the number of punts went down. He was our only punter also. You can see it was a rare occasion, even deep in our own territory. It was sweet when it worked out, but a little bitter when you give the other team a short field. 2015 - 7 punts - 45 avg. 2014 - 9 punts - 46 avg. 2013 - 17 punts - 44 avg.
  2. Fine's last game in high school was in freezing rain (28-30 deg. f) and a very muddy field (puddles of water almost ankle deep on field). I have watched him play in rain, wind and turf many times without any major problems. The problem in the last playoff game was a muddy and slimy ball with frozen hands. I was told the receivers couldn't feel their hands after their warm-ups. The rest of the state playoff games were postponed by the OSSAA except this one.
  3. http://www.pryordailytimes.com/sports/mason-fine-the-man-of-steel/article_76f5c4f6-58ca-11e5-b6c1-2749f3670068.html LOCUST GROVE — When Locust Grove quarterback Mason Fine scores the PA announcer, John Blackwell, labels Fine as ‘The Man of Steel’ as Pirate fans roar. The comparison to Superman may be the best way to describe last year’s Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, except Fine has yet to find a kryptonite on the gridiron.
  4. Pirtle used his 6'-3" body well and would hold off defenders and take the ball from them, at least in the high schools ranks. He has caught many fade routes from mason too. Good possession receiver and doesn't drop many.
  5. 88 Jason Pirtle hasn't played yet.
  6. when he gets outside the pocket he will make the plays. no need to dumb down. just give him a couple seconds to do something.
  7. I don't mean to disrespect anyone on here. someone asked about Fine's durability in high school and I told you guys how he was in high school. I don't know how that will translate to Div. 1 football. Everyone kept saying he needed to get stronger that is why I mentioned his bench. He will play if he deserves to play and he is very fun to watch. You guys have a lot of new NT fans in Northeast OK and we will be tuning in every week.
  8. not the big lineman, but the skill people. I heard he benches over 300 which is pretty good for skill guys straight out of high school. The big guys are a totally different category. If they aren't benching 400-450 something is wrong.
  9. and I would bet Fine is one of the stronger guys on the team. definitely per pound, but probably would out lift most of them.
  10. I am very familiar with Fine's career at Locust Grove. He is very fast, scrambles to buy himself time, runs as a last resort, almost always slides or runs out of bounds (usually after a first down), depending on his location on the field. I have seen him jump, dive, whatever it takes for a first down when desperate though. I have seen lots of guys have him in their grasp and he seems to get away. I don't know of him ever missing any game time with an injury. I have seen him take some tough hits and jump up like it is nothing. He commands the field and his leadership is outstanding.
