  1. I think this is good, the deal could have been much better since much of that money was for services rendered rather than actual cash. At the bowl game they said Toyota and a few others names have been in contact.
  2. I think this is getting pushed by Perry's agent or someone. I think he is on the list but I don't think he is in the top 3 candidates at this point.
  3. How do you like the coaches you are hearing about? I have heard AD hire is most likely announced Sunday and HC is Monday/Tuesday.
  4. In a few days I’d like to see a follow up to some of these hot takes.
  5. Dilfer has never coached in college in any capacity and is coming from a low level private Christian High school where he has coached like 2-3 years. If we made a hire like that you would be dunking on UNT for weeks.
  6. No merit to these rumors in the thread. The donors, and school are in agreement on the direction of the program. He wanted the job at Ok State which filled in mid 2021. Their hire is young and under contract through mid 2025. He got a base salary increase from 625k to 1.1 million. Almost 500k more not 300k and most importantly to him success at WVU will have him primed for a premier gig at an Oklahoma school if one shows up in a few years. In the mean time he is going to make 6.6 million plus incentives.
  7. From what I have heard the plan is to conduct a national search. edited for clarity.
  8. The scoop on this was that he was happy here but was offered the WVU job. UNT countered to entice him to stay but then WVU backed up the truck with a large raise. My read is that to get his dream job at Ok State he needs to have some P5 experience and this is that at a high level. The candidates we draw in from the upcoming national search are going to be great, they were awesome last round and this time we are in a much better position.
  9. My understanding is part of the issue with some of theses proposals over the years is that the City owns the streets rather than UNT so UNT cannot just snap their fingers and take them over.
  10. The Dedication for Unity Plaza should be really cool and its at 1:30pm on Saturday: North Texas Athletics will unveil and dedicate its new Unity Plaza honoring trailblazers Abner Haynes and Dr. Leon King on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 pm prior to the homecoming football game. The event is free and open to the public. Haynes and King were the first Black players to integrate major college football at a four-year university in Texas. The plaza was constructed adjacent to the UNT Athletic Center and the Lovelace and McNatt Families Practice Facility. "We are excited to honor the contributions of two icons of our university and the state of Texas in Abner and Leon," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "This Unity Plaza will be a focal point of our athletics facilities and somewhere that will live on for generations celebrating the achievements of two of our finest alumni." In 1956, Haynes and Dr. King became the first Black student-athletes to play major college football in Texas when they became members of the North Texas freshman team. Both would move to the varsity as sophomore in 1957.
  11. Putting "waist side" size to the wayside. You must have an alert anytime Aune is mentioned in a thread. Players and recruits read these forums and I wanted to point out that the sky is not falling. The amount of complaints lately on everything related to athletics in these threads is overdone. Are some gripes justified, sure but do we need 10 threads a day about any small negative thing? For example, I think the views on here about the homecoming parade are a bit rose colored glasses, participation had declined and it was just ok with out much student involvement. Things like the bonfire draw much more student interest. I do think lighting the tower is a great tradition and a relatively easy fix. I think they should work out something there.
  12. You want them to publicly say they plan on firing the sitting head coach? They have been pretty clear about the aspirations and other portions that were mentioned.
  13. These threads are hilarious, most of these posts have to be satire but the past two weeks the following have been cancelled: - Vito, The Mayor, Scrappy, Seth, Aune (cancelled and then uncancelled), Wren, the Administration, the entire Athletic Department, the Talons, UNT Sports Creative team, UNT Students, the city of Denton Its almost as if we aren't the fastest growing school in Texas, and we didn't blow out WKU on the road last week. To put things in perspective: 2012 Basketball 12-20 Football 4-8 Conference: Sun Belt 2021-2022 Basketball - 25-7 Football 5-4 Soon to join the AAC
  14. His family is at games all the time, they were at the last home game.
  15. Except it couldn’t, they were able to get something like 100 acres given to them for this project. Frisco is also part of UNT Denton unlike the other things you mentioned. I tend to agree that often the other parts of UNT seem to be a headwind for us as the flagship but Frisco was a homerun imo.
  16. He was yelling and disrupting a closed meeting for the hospitality program. They asked him to leave and he refused, they called campus PD who also asked him to leave and he refused. What actually happened is much different from the online narrative that he was arrested trying to go to a job fair.
  17. Over the past three years we have gained more students than any school in Texas, compare that against many schools that are actually losing students. Tons of great things going on at the University as a whole. For the AD there was clearly room to improve and I will see how things play out this Saturday before making knee jerk reactions.
  18. The Miller family is great, in my dealings with them I have only good things to say about them and SMU is lucky to have their support. UNT has known about this interest for some time. Here are my two cents. The SMU boosters I have chatted with are not supportive of their AD so I think that uncertainty is a red flag for a new coach. SMU has some heavy hitters that could certainly pay up for a coach but I think there are some other factors that wouldn’t play well for Mac I won’t go into them at length. I also think the type of recruit and defensive focus isn’t a match for SMU. So while possible, I think UNT is prepared to counter this and other interest and I think if Mac does eventually leave he could land a “better” job than SMU. At his young age he will strongly consider future job prospects and conference affiliation not just $.
  19. This is not what happened at all, the school said they support the trans community and said they don’t agree with the group’s public comments that said “trans people don’t exist”. The school also didn’t side with the protestors or violence and continues to support free speech.
  20. YCT has a lawsuit against the school and is being guided by various conservative organizations on how to work the system to their advantage. The schools legal team can’t boot them because they are intentionally instigating things while pushing boundaries between free speech and hate speech. Just wanted to give some background so people understand the school isn’t backing YCT at all it’s just attempting to follow legal guidance in what amounts to a lose/lose situation where both sides are drawing attention with no rational conversation occurring.
  21. Believe it is his grandson. Tom was a good offensive/qb coach in college/CFL/NFL. Before retiring he was QB coach of the year at A&M in 2009 (beating out Holgerson). Luke should be well coached.
  22. Exit fees are almost always negotiated. Sometimes it’s more money to leave early, but it could be programs pushing out the term or lowering the dollar amount too. It’s less publicized but it’s not uncommon for new programs to get help on entrance fees as well. Don’t think of them as a firm contract - think of them as a ballpark of what both sides think may be owed
  23. Agree strongly here with your take about timing. I’m a big WB backer, I think he’s done well and I like his management technique with coaches that weren’t “his” hires. He makes sure they have improved resources and gives them a shot to turn things around with better support - if it doesn’t work he moves on. Zero chance SL coaches next season as you noted and we will have folks hopping back on the bandwagon. Your extension info is still not spot on but it was a more complicated deal than I first thought, where some external pieces tilted things a bit. Don’t really want to put them on blast because the school will need them moving forward and at the time the decision looked much better than it does now. If I had one nitpick I’d have him let the track coach garnering all the noise and allegations go - not his hire and doesn’t seem to be particularly successful. I know it his M.O. to make these decisions slowly, but that’s my one question about decision making in the department.
