Denver vs. Northern Iowa
UAB vs. Troy
WKU vs Houston
North Carolina State vs New Orleans
Louisiana Tech vs. Louisiana Lafayette

Some interesting match ups with several against CUSA....and I love wins over CUSA. The WKU game is especially interesting and should be a decent measuring stick as to where WKU is at right now. I believe that UNO beat NC State last season when they were Top 25. This is should be a great game due to the "pay back" factor.

Denver apparently is involved in a serious defensive battle with North Iowa.... 33-31 with 12 minutes left in the game.

and to think Kurt Warner wasn't even playing today
CMJ
Northern Iowa isn't a terrible loss on the road....but it woulda been a nice win for Denver to have over a MVC school.
chrisfisher
Looks like Troy is a few minutes away from a loss to UAB. Today isn't shaping up well so far for the SBC.... Hopefully ULL, UNO, and WKU can win tonight. I want our conference ratings high when we enter conference play.

WKU up by 10 at the half.

Any idea why Magley only played 6 minutes for Western tonight?

Anyone have any eligibility left want to go enroll at Denver? 3 guys played 40 minutes and they only went 2 deep on the bench. This really isnt a bad loss for UD...most of what I've read has UNI pegged second in the MVC, right behind Creighton. UNI isn't a running team by any means, but it still looks like Denver forced them into their snails pace kinda game.

chrisfisher
UNO vs NC State - 19-15 - UNO up with 6 min. left in half 1.
ULL vs. Lou Tech 15-14 - Lou Tech up with 8 min left in half 1.

I have the UNO tracker up on my computer while watching football on TV. UNO really seems to be playing fantastic.

I just saw that... it hadn't updated in while and it looked like NC State was pulling away... hope UNO can pull it out.
CMJ
UNO had the ball but couldn't covert, fouled NC State.

Looks like the Wolfpack will salt this away.
CMJ
NC State 65
UNO 59

Final

Nice effort by the Privateers. Was hoping they could win this one. Tough day for the Belt.

Pretty positive. Not just Yahoo has it, but Realtime Rpi shows New Orleans as 0-1 and NC State as 1-0.

That's good enough for me... that's bummer though... I was pretty excited about what I thought was a SBC win over the ACC..... oh well...

I certainly don't want to come off as excuse-making-guy...and I'm not happy with an 0-5 opening night...but here are a list of excuses as to why this isn't an awful night.

4 of these games were competitive against comparable, top mid-level programs. LA Tech will be greatly improved this season once they blend 4 D-1 transfers, including Magnum Rolle, a top 20 post when he signed with LSU a few years ago. UNI is near the top of the MVC. NC State will be highly competitive in the ACC, Houston same in C-USA...and UAB is good, but Troy should've been able to hang with them...but for a team that lives and dies by the three, 6-34 will more than likely mean die most nights.

Teams were missing some key players. The most notable for me was UNO ability to stay with NC State without the services of forward Kyndall Dykes. ULL was without point guard Randell Diagle, wing Chris Gradnigo and forward Emmanual Adiefe. Western Kentucky was without guard A.J. Slaughter, and post D.J. Magley only played 6 minutes.

Again, I'm not trying to justify an 0-5 start, especially with 3 of those loses on home court...but none of these should really be labelled as bad losses...save for maybe Troy.
