  1. Layne's grandmother is bravely battling cancer and his decision was based on staying closer to her and the rest of the family as they support her during this difficult time. UNT did the right thing for this young man by letting him out of his signed NLI.

  2. Give you? This player disrespected Longwood and shows no loyalty or commitment. And you're fine with it... . . . . .

  5. Just seems like he wanted to stay close to home. I doubt theres a need to overthink it.

  6. This sounds like a marriage counseling session that went off the rails. Nobody needs to be reminded when the season starts that they declared their intention to quit supporting the school during the offseason. Everybody knows supporting UNT is like herpes. You think it's finally gone and it flares up again.

  7. If it wasn't out of the bag before, it is now since you decided to post it on a public forum.

  8. It’s INSANE!!! So we are encouraged to contribute to a NIL fund to pay players who have absolutely no loyalty to our school and then if we want to watch them play we must buy a ticket, pay for parking etc.? Count me out.

  9. The game starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday if anybody is near Denton and could make it. They were $15 each. I could use a couple but will give up all nine and stand in right field if that means more people rooting on the Green Wednesday. I wanted to keep them out of the hands of Aggie fans. I know this doesn't belong in this forum but wanted to maximize visibility to help benefit the softball ladies.

  10. Yep. They want an NIL? I want a list of what players are being paid what amount and how their name, image or likeness is being used to earn these dollars. The fans give this money so we have a right to know. These kids entering the portal and signing elsewhere, I want to know what we offered/paid and what the new school is paying. Too much secrecy when the fan base is paying the salaries.

  12. "The Grand Old Man of Football" Amos Alonzo Stagg (August 16, 1862 – March 17, 1965) Stagg was a member of the first "All American Team" in 1889 when he played at Yale. He then coached from 1890 to 1946 at the University of Chicago and the University of the Pacific and won the 1905 and 1913 National Championships. He designed much of the game of football during his career. Amos Alonzo Stagg with North Texas coach Odus Mitchell the night before the 1946 Optimist Bowl. The bowl game, a 14-13 loss to North Texas, was the final game of Stagg's legendary college football coaching career.

  13. Sounds like he was a pretty good prospect coming out of high school. "Brock Vice is a Creighton Bluejay. The 6-foot-10 power forward Brock Vice (Germantown, Tenn. / Houston HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Creighton and play for the Bluejays. He's ranked as the nation's No. 33 best center prospect by 247Sports and the No. 3 overall player in the state of Tennessee" Brock Vice is a Creighton Bluejay (247sports.com)

  15. I was reading about this a few hours ago. This is basically the start of revenue sharing... It was the goal. They took a huge step reaching that goal in Virgina. I'm glad I laughed at the notion of "student"-athlete 20 years ago. The idea of student is so far removed it's laughable. I thought it was laughable in the early 00s. It's a clown town joke nowadays. Not all athletes. Because I don't know any player individually. But what I do know is that acceptance standards have been dumbed down to community college levels of acceptance over the last 30+ years, and that goes for some pretty elite universities. Now, those lowly standards are still in place. Then, classes are now exclusively taken online for countless athletes. As of 10+ years ago, athletic departments provide tutors, essay editors, etc. To add, multiple universities have been caught creating made up academic programs to filter their athletes through. Not to mention the universities being caught fudging grades and having their assigned tutors complete their online coursework. And we're sitting here still calling these athletes "student"-athletes all the while trying to keep a straight face.

  16. Is our coaching staff scrambling to field a football team for 2024? This portal crap and the ability to transfer at anytime, anywhere just takes the fun out of college football. For me at least.

  17. Dang... after 7 years of success you'd think the company we keep on lists like this wouldn't look like THIS. Embarrassing.

  18. Glad to say @CMJ can rest easy. All the people who bugged the sh!t out of him for spelling Rubin's name wrong now have a new name they can get wrong: Massie instead of Massey.

  19. First year in 20+ that I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on renewing my 4 season football tickets. Tired of never "winning the big game", tired of "it's about me", and "show me the money". Very little or no loyalty to "the team or school". Maybe I'm too old to be a college football/basketball fan.....

  20. Fanbase? What fanbase? Even the hardcore followers on gmg are walking away. Very little interest or traffic anymore. Covid, the portal, NIL and the economy have all taken a hit on what little fan base we had. Ignoring, or excluding your most ardent supporters during Spring Practice was a pretty shallow decision as well. I guess when we start the season 6-0 the fans will magically start to show up at Datcu.

  23. I guess he wasn't lying when he said he wanted out of his NLI to be somewhere closer to home. Not sure what his home situation is like (maybe he has family that needs help?), but UCA is much closer to it.

  24. Something not right with this. I’m thinking this was a mutual parting of ways for some reason.

  28. We have complained for years about being left in the dark. The Mean Green Club was promised quarterly meetings that never took place, now there is little to no coverage of the spring practices, player movement is constant so the days of watching a last second scholarship player developing in to a Hall of Fame performer are long gone ala Johnny Quinn, there is little to no fan engagement, etc... It just keeps getting worse and without a push to really involve the fans, I foresee a bleak future. They, the AD, has to create excitement around the team/program or Apogee will just become a waste of money, the new basketball arena will never happen and future adds like baseball will just be an idea that came too late. The days of the G5's are on their way out. It will be whittled down to the top 40 or 50 programs as D1. We might as well go back to our D1AA days and play at the FCS level. I am just about done with sports from a financial commitment position. The greed has ruined it for me. There is zero loyalty towards the program by the players. It is all about them and how much money they can cram in their pockets and it appears our basketball coach encourages the lack of loyalty. I will watch on television, but that's about it, much like pro sports have become. I have no interest in attending a Cowboys' game live once the prices became ridiculous, same with the Mav's and Rangers' in that stupid new ballpark that was a waste of money. I had arrived at a point where I was only willing to invest in watching North Texas live, but the current situation has ruined that as well. The future of all of college sports is a disaster if some type of control isn't put in place. It is ridiculous and very sad. Guess I will end up spending my money on golf, fine food and drink, drugs, etc. and become a more interesting person.

  29. I’m not the type who’s going to say, “I’m done with college sports” and that be it. I’m moreso the guy whose interest is just going to wane to the point that I don’t watch anymore. It would actually free up a lot of time that I could be more productive🤣🤣

  30. A lot of you guys still haven't learned.... Many times, dudes transferring from a High-Major/P5 to NT looking for more PT aren't nearly as good as dudes transferring from a Low-Major/FCS, or even D2.

  31. That's not a bad idea. I don't see it happening though.

  32. I thought I saw it was just long wood for three years. I stand corrected. Just another dude floating around never happy. These kids are going to struggle bouncing around out there in real life. 10 jobs 15 wife’s 20 countries…. I mean I guess whatever. That’s normal… just move move move move because it’s all about you all the time.

  38. Maybe my anticipations were too high for him and I thought he would be a major contributor early. If he wasn’t coming here I’d just assume he had something we would perceive as a step up. But maybe this was a more mutual parting?? Otherwise I am a bit perplexed.

  42. Tough opponent? We should have beat them last year. Personally, I hate posts that are state our opponent is tough. That should be worried about playing us.
    5 points
  43. That is one way to look at it. Another would be that given a full offseason together and the addition of a couple of key pieces, this year’s team could have built the foundation for something better. I wasn’t convinced this team was special or even a top conference team but I have a hard time imagining losing the entire top six on the roster is ever really a positive unless you are just awful. We were not great but far from awful.

  44. I would like they stay where they started. One transfer and make that about one of 3 things. 1. Family 2. Competitive step up 3. location you get one move. Make it count. Better yet stay where you are. Maybe NILs need to be kept in accounts and only guaranteed if you stay in your original location. Paid out at the end unless you leave or go pro in which case that account is forfeited. There are many reasonable solutions. Instead it’s the Wild West. Anarchy…. It’s ridiculous .

  45. Great 4-1 win today....by the Mean Green! Highlights: 1) Unbelievable pitching by MackWags......a shutout into the 7th....spoiled by a solo homer. 2) Up 1-0 in the sixth....when Kailey Gamble hits a really high fly ball to right.....that just goes over the OF fence. 3 run bomb. 3) Great D by all three outfielders......especially Rylee Nicholson in center. Had a highlight reel play in the first few innings. Molly Rainey and Tatum Sparks also with some nice outfield play. 4) Morgan Medford with three hits today....now hitting .320. Lotsa games this week.......2 at A&M Commerce on Tuesday, host A&M on Wednesday...and three in Memphis next weekend. Memphis is pretty bad. Last time I looked they had a record of like 3-25. But, you can't count as wins....until you beat 'em. Go Mean Green!!!! (Edit: Memphis is 4-33..)
