  1. Layne's grandmother is bravely battling cancer and his decision was based on staying closer to her and the rest of the family as they support her during this difficult time. UNT did the right thing for this young man by letting him out of his signed NLI.

  2. Give you? This player disrespected Longwood and shows no loyalty or commitment. And you're fine with it... . . . . .

  5. Just seems like he wanted to stay close to home. I doubt theres a need to overthink it.

  6. I'm hearing Caleb Williams is withdrawing from the NFL draft and transferring to UNT after getting a lifetime mani-pedi offer from a local nail salon.

  7. If it wasn't out of the bag before, it is now since you decided to post it on a public forum.

  8. It’s INSANE!!! So we are encouraged to contribute to a NIL fund to pay players who have absolutely no loyalty to our school and then if we want to watch them play we must buy a ticket, pay for parking etc.? Count me out.

  9. Thanks NCAA!!! "You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you!

  10. Dang... after 7 years of success you'd think the company we keep on lists like this wouldn't look like THIS. Embarrassing.

  11. The game starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday if anybody is near Denton and could make it. They were $15 each. I could use a couple but will give up all nine and stand in right field if that means more people rooting on the Green Wednesday. I wanted to keep them out of the hands of Aggie fans. I know this doesn't belong in this forum but wanted to maximize visibility to help benefit the softball ladies.

  12. Yep. They want an NIL? I want a list of what players are being paid what amount and how their name, image or likeness is being used to earn these dollars. The fans give this money so we have a right to know. These kids entering the portal and signing elsewhere, I want to know what we offered/paid and what the new school is paying. Too much secrecy when the fan base is paying the salaries.

  14. "The Grand Old Man of Football" Amos Alonzo Stagg (August 16, 1862 – March 17, 1965) Stagg was a member of the first "All American Team" in 1889 when he played at Yale. He then coached from 1890 to 1946 at the University of Chicago and the University of the Pacific and won the 1905 and 1913 National Championships. He designed much of the game of football during his career. Amos Alonzo Stagg with North Texas coach Odus Mitchell the night before the 1946 Optimist Bowl. The bowl game, a 14-13 loss to North Texas, was the final game of Stagg's legendary college football coaching career.

  15. Yeah, sadly, I fear that the answer is pretty simple: we have the worst NIL in the conference. Until that changes, we'll be sending Hodge into a gunfight with a knife. The further we get into the NIL era, the harder it's going to be to keep up the momentum from past success. At this point we're basically just hoping and praying that Hodge is a WAY better coach/recruiter/evaluater than his AAC counterparts. Even if he is really good at those things, we can't just expect him to pull off miracles every single season.

  16. Getting to the NCAA tournament is an accomplishment. I think we have momentum and sustainability to lose. For us, that is a tremendous loss. Not to say we can't keep the mojo going, but it's easier when a trusted nucleus is returning.

  17. Next season will be fun. We’re going to learn a lot about Ross’ talent evaluation and what kind of team he wants. I’m excited in that regard.

  19. This sounds like a marriage counseling session that went off the rails. Nobody needs to be reminded when the season starts that they declared their intention to quit supporting the school during the offseason. Everybody knows supporting UNT is like herpes. You think it's finally gone and it flares up again.

  20. Glad to say @CMJ can rest easy. All the people who bugged the sh!t out of him for spelling Rubin's name wrong now have a new name they can get wrong: Massie instead of Massey.

  21. First year in 20+ that I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on renewing my 4 season football tickets. Tired of never "winning the big game", tired of "it's about me", and "show me the money". Very little or no loyalty to "the team or school". Maybe I'm too old to be a college football/basketball fan.....

  22. Fanbase? What fanbase? Even the hardcore followers on gmg are walking away. Very little interest or traffic anymore. Covid, the portal, NIL and the economy have all taken a hit on what little fan base we had. Ignoring, or excluding your most ardent supporters during Spring Practice was a pretty shallow decision as well. I guess when we start the season 6-0 the fans will magically start to show up at Datcu.

  25. I guess he wasn't lying when he said he wanted out of his NLI to be somewhere closer to home. Not sure what his home situation is like (maybe he has family that needs help?), but UCA is much closer to it.

  26. Something not right with this. I’m thinking this was a mutual parting of ways for some reason.

  27. Good for him. I'm glad he found somewhere close to home that he can play right away.

  31. Is our coaching staff scrambling to field a football team for 2024? This portal crap and the ability to transfer at anytime, anywhere just takes the fun out of college football. For me at least.

  32. That's not a bad idea. I don't see it happening though.

  33. I thought I saw it was just long wood for three years. I stand corrected. Just another dude floating around never happy. These kids are going to struggle bouncing around out there in real life. 10 jobs 15 wife’s 20 countries…. I mean I guess whatever. That’s normal… just move move move move because it’s all about you all the time.

  38. Maybe my anticipations were too high for him and I thought he would be a major contributor early. If he wasn’t coming here I’d just assume he had something we would perceive as a step up. But maybe this was a more mutual parting?? Otherwise I am a bit perplexed.

  39. This is an example of saying a lot while saying absolutely nothing.

  40. I just know he couldn't have meant the Central Arkansas basketball team is building something special...

  42. Tough opponent? We should have beat them last year. Personally, I hate posts that are state our opponent is tough. That should be worried about playing us.
    5 points
  43. That is one way to look at it. Another would be that given a full offseason together and the addition of a couple of key pieces, this year’s team could have built the foundation for something better. I wasn’t convinced this team was special or even a top conference team but I have a hard time imagining losing the entire top six on the roster is ever really a positive unless you are just awful. We were not great but far from awful.

  44. Thanks for the above, that demonstrates whatever is going on at NT is unusual. Obviously, there is an explanation other than it is happening everywhere; because it is not to the extent it is at NT.

  45. We lost less last year with a coaching change.

  46. Players leaving due to coach leaving makes sense to me. You like that coach and he recruited you there, maybe you don't want to play in an unknown system. I understand those reasons. We are not in that situation, our coach is still here.
