  1. Just a quick recap after the the recruiting whirlwind the last week. We have landed 8 recruits the last 5 days. We are seeing the product of the revamped recruiting staff and success on the field including back to back bowls, Conference West division championship ect. I don't see the momentum slowing down. Obviously we can't continue to land a recruit a day. But I have said this before and I will say it again. Come December this will be the best recruiting class as far as rankings and offers North Texas has seen in last decade and possibly ever. Mean Green are still in on some big names. They aren't panicking and just getting guys just for bodies. They are letting the dominoes fall and going down their prospect board. It will be an exciting next few months on the recruiting side. (gomeangreen.com Prediction: If Western Kentucky or La Tech do not land a recruit today, North Texas will take over the number one spot in 247 rankings for C-USA) Nailed it** Current North Texas commits Gabriel Murphy Bishop Lynch (Dallas, TX) OLB 6-2 215 (247 Ratings 0.8477) Other Offers included: Air Force, Texas State, UConn, Navy and UTSA Commit 6/21/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6650915/5a273a06d21b6f18c49df1c3 Garrison Johnson Manvel (Manvel, TX) RB 5-11 210 (247 Ratings 0.8466) Other Offers included: Nebraska, Syracuse, Indiana, Virginia, SMU and UTSA Commit 4/30/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6005674/5a1587090c53d827384f980e Grayson Murphy Bishop Lynch (Dallas, TX) OLB 6-2 215 (247 Ratings 0.8377) Commit 6/21/2018 Other Offers included:Air Force, Texas State, UConn, Navy and UTSA Hudl:https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6677105/5a288be9bed6cb38846136a0 Damon Ward West Brook (Beaumont, TX) WR 6-0 192 (247 Ratings 0.8265) Other Offers included: Lousiana Monroe, UTEP, New Mexico State and Southern Miss Commit 5/26/2018 Hudl: https://ww.hudl.com/video/3/6641821/59d8f58bf5600a0b38b012c4 Taylor Jacobs South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, TX) ILB 6-2 215 (247 Ratings 0.8199) Other Offers included: Texas Tech Commit 6/18/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6707118/5a293b48b53ec20d1406f16b Chris Cassidy Angleton (Angleton, TX) OT 6-4 275 (247 Ratings 0.8178) Other Offers included: Louisiana and Mcnesse State Commit 6/20/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5294396/5a39ee095ca9521164ef4cec Will Kuehne Owasso (Owasso, OK) PRO 6-1 190 (247 Ratings 0.8104) Other Offers included: Maryland and Arkansas State Commit 6/19/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/4031231/59b5af45ff01d80ad48d568b Deonte Simpson West Brook (Beaumont, TX) WR 6-0 192 (247 Ratings 0.8104) Other Offers included: Air Force, Southern Miss, Texas State, Northwestern, Lousiana Monroe, Tulsa and Tulane Commit 6/17/2018 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8259956/59d8edd1664b9d070c1498bb Kevin Wood Judson (Converse, TX) ILB 6-0 200 (247 Ratings 0.7993) Commit 6/21/2018 Other Offers included: New Mexico State, Liberty and Texas State Hudl:https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5290685/5a1f497102bbdb0fc8d4fcdc

  4. Spoke with Kevin earlier in the recruiting season. He was recruited by Coach Choice and Coach Koonz. Kevin was very complentary of both coaches. He held offers from Tx State and NMSU. He visited NMSU this week. He was a 1st Team all district LB for Judson last year as a Jr. He visited North Texas a week or so ago. He said it had a very nice feel about it which led to commitment. Very Nice addition to keep the 5 day streak going! Will have more from the interview later!

  5. Having closely followed recruiting for the last 15 years I honestly had grown more and more disinterested every year. We continued to pull in classes that ranked near the bottom of all teams in the country. What has happened thus far in recruiting for 2019 is truly exciting.

  9. As of right now with this commitment, we've passed La Tech for the best class so far. We have more total "points" but they have a higher average. https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/?Conference=C-USA

  11. Why?? His tape smothers the other OL with higher rating. Only thing missing in his tape and what kept P5s away is no pass sets. Good hip movement and explosiveness just no pass sets

  12. Sounds exciting, right? I think a consistent 60% rate per signing class is elite vs our competition. 15 per 25. Want to know why programs like Marshall, Toledo, LaTech stay relatively relevant...It's because they consistently have a talent rich roster with 3 stars scattered throughout. Many of folks roll their eyes at these systematic rating systems, but the programs that are littered with touted players are going to succeed or at minimum be competitive. Keep the momentum going...no excuses.

  13. North Texas is currently ranked 67th nationally in recruiting. Needless to say that a big improvement from last year.

  14. Like i have been saying all along. Recruiting struggle have been a byproduct of losing and no true recruiting department. We are winning and Luke is 1000 light years ahead of any recruiting coordinator has ever had.

  20. I may be off base as far as recruiting and may not know what I am talking about, but I think some of the changes in Denton have helped with this. I agree that the winning and the recruiting department changes are the biggest reason for the turn around, but I think some of the changes made in Denton helps. When I was growing up in Denton there really was nothing here. The square, Hickory and Oak Streets were nothing but pawn shops, feed stores, and other small town stuff like Wolfs grocery, etc. If you were a college student who visited Denton and considered UNT, I am sure that went into some decisions. I mean if you do not have a car, it was difficult to get to Dallas and Fort Worth to enjoy some nightlife. We all had to hang in close proximity to UNT to have any fun and being on campus all the time was boring. Now these kids come here and there is a nightlife for them, there is a transit system to get around if you have no vehicle, and DCTA can get you to all parts of Dallas. I spoke to a bus driver for Wynne Transportation that told me he has driven a lot of recruits and family members for UNT visits and they always take them to the square to show the changes that Denton has made. Again I may be off base, but I do think it helps.

  23. I've been following this program for 20+ years....I don't ever recall anything like this... The good thing is as those rankings go up, word gets out and momentum picks up. A lot of hard work going on by this staff...that's for sure. Exciting!

  28. Tyler Toney's (he's the one with the full beard) dad is a friend of mine and a fellow North Texas alum. Unfortunately Tyler did not follow his dad to UNT but went to A&M instead as did the rest of the Dude Perfect crew (I believe) and where they started their DP business. Several years ago I asked how many tries it takes before they make one of their shots. The answer was that if they didn't make it in the first 10-15 attempts they moved on to a different shot. Not sure if that's still the case, but that's the answer I recall. One of their first videos had Tyler making a shot from way up in the Aggie football stadium to a hoop setup on the field....crazy.

  29. In the second scene just before they switch to the first Canales interview you see #19 throwing the ball. As you may or may not know, he's our current back-up to Mason Fine......and he came off the bench cold last year and threw a TD pass against a B-10 school. As I recall I assessed him (Shanbour) and DW as being the best pure passers of the group. I also spent all spring scratching my head over Greer and all the reps he was getting. I couldn't decide if DW was undisciplined, unfocused, or just not all that bright.

  31. His 247 rating is a 78 (2*), which brought his composite down from over .85 earlier in the day. Honestly, they probably haven't even rated him at this point but put something up once he committed. I think the current composite rating is probably fair though!

  32. I believe the defense will be much stronger next year. The dbs should be a strong point and rank among the best in the conference. Both the dl and lb also should be much improved and should be of at least average CUSA quality. I think the biggest issue is lack of depth at linebacker, but there are a lot of young players that should develop. The defense is not going to dominate, but I predict they will much better than the doormat of last year.
