  1. This is Coach Langston territory. He has a lot of connections down there. I think we will continue to have success around the triangle

  3. I didn’t know Sydney Graham. I knew Fred just a little. But I thought going would be a good way to connect somehow to the person that created the nickname “Mean Green.” I hope I’ll know someone at the service. For anyone undecided right now (Saturday afternoon @ 1:47p), the service is at the First Christian Church on Fulton street at 3:00. This is the lady that literally coined the phrase, GO MEAN GREEN. Thank you.

  4. It was a very nice and well-attended service with beautiful music. Her son, Mark, provided wonderful words of remembrance for sweet Sidney Sue.

  5. The flag is expensive and I'm sure that the decision was made to use a smaller one over the summer and come back with the big one in August...just a guess. Smaller flags don't get as much abuse from the wind and they are cheaper....once again, just a guess.

  6. Even if he does not completely dominate, strong play from him up the middle is essential, as it could allow Young to dominate from DE.

  7. This makes the most sense based on where he is from and North Texas is definitely a step up. We could increase the salary, but not to the point that we would have to if we went after Lombardi or Gasso.

  8. I’m currently in Laramie visiting family that attends the University of Wyoming, I only say that to provide some context on what I’m about to say. First I understand the point you’re trying to make but these are two vastly different programs that I feel should not be compared. First of all...there is nothing out here. Laramie is small and supportive because what else are they going to do? The town lives or dies on the university. The IPF is a must up here, it’s Wyoming! North Texas is in a bigger market and has to compete with big time programs to get attention, Wyoming simply doesn’t have to do that. Everyone will eventually see this for themselves in 2026 I believe. GMG

  9. Sydney’s son spoke of his Mom and gave a very good insight to her. After he spoke I almost felt like I knew her. He said Joe Greene had called offering his condolences and said that Sydney had helped his career. I’m glad I went considering all the shirts I own with her phrase on the front. GO MEAN GEEEN

  10. I used to have a supervisor (my favorite one) who , when she was presented with a "full proof" plan on a previously problematic case, used to say "There's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip". Which is why I have always had a certain amount of healthy caution on uncertain situations. So, when...... 1. Mr. English is medically cleared to resume physical activity...and then 2. When Mr. English appears to be getting back into physical shape.....and then 3. When Mr. English starts getting back into football shape, with no apparent medical concerns.... Then I will start having hopeful thoughts about what his contribution will be in this fall's football campaign. Meanwhile, many positive thoughts will be directed his way.

  12. I have zero confidence whatsoever that English will play. I also think it's fairly sad that we are relying so much on one player to be a difference maker for us. I get that some guys are just more dynamic athletes/playmakers, but I'm fairly certain having English alone isn't going drop our PPG from 35 to 20 in one season.

  15. The following analysis is based on numbers & percentages provided by ESPN per their FPI measure. A win is considered as being given a 55.0% chance or better of winning a game. A loss is considered as being given a 45.0% chance or worse of winning a game. A tossup is considered as being given a 45.1-54.9% chance of winning a game. For ranking divisions, wins will be worth 1.0 points and tossups will be worth 0.5 points, with a total score of 8 meaning that all conference games were won. Parentheses will be in the following order (wins-losses-tossups). The first set of parentheses will be overall record, second set will be conference record, and the third will be divisional points. East Division: 1) Marshall (10-2-0) (8-0-0) (8) 2) MTSU (7-4-1) (6-1-1) (6.5) 3) FAU (7-3-2) (5-1-2) (6) 4) WKU (5-6-1) (3-4-1) (3.5) 5) ODU (3-6-3) (2-5-1) (2.5) 6) FIU (2-9-1) (1-6-1) (1.5) 6) Charlotte (1-8-3) (0-5-3) (1.5) West Division 1) UNT (8-1-3) (5-0-3) (6.5) 1) LA Tech (8-3-1) (6-1-1) (6.5) 3) UAB (7-3-1) (5-3-0) (5) 4) Southern Miss (5-6-1) (4-4-0) (4) 5) UTSA (4-8-0) (3-5-0) (3) 6) Rice (2-11-0) (1-7-0) (1) 7) UTEP (0-11-1) (0-8-0) (0) Of note is that LA Tech @ UNT is currently a tossup (50.6-49.4), so a true #1 can not yet be decided in C-USA’s west division.

  17. I'm sure they would. As for cost, I spoke with a parent yesterday whose son is in high school and getting fitted for one this week, and she said they are around the $500-$600 range. If this helmet does as it claims that will drop quickly. My son's Xenith, which is an excellent design, was $250 and I'd have no problem doubling that if it meant giving him that kind of protection through high school. Rick

  18. Up voted this for its accuracy. Love that English is coming back however we are still too thin on defense. English is great but we are not talking about a sure bet Blue Chip first 3 rounds of the NFL draft player. If you have a solid defensive team with just decent depth that is only kind of player you should hope for a 15 point a game impact from.

  25. The advice that I give my students (liberal arts majors), is to focus on developing skills while they are in college rather than just think very narrowly about a particularly job for a specific major (ie; political science=law school, biology=med school, etc.). While most liberal arts degrees don't train students for a specific job, they can prepare students for good jobs - if students focusing on developing marketable skills. A liberal arts student that takes advantage of the opportunities that their courses give them to develop the ability to write well, communicate ideas, and analyze data can do quite well, particularly if that student has also developed some skills along the way in something like statistics, database management, a computer language, etc.

  26. ---Different subject (mentioned above) but I absolutely oppose "free college" ...... Where I teach we did that for a while for recent grads... It was awful. We had people sign up and go a few times and never come back once they discovered it was not HS part II. . It was a total waste of money and resources. Students need to have some "money on the table" or they will not take it seriously.

  27. Just for starters........ Angelo State's Travis Scott. They are currently 52-7 and play in the DII World Series on May 24th. http://www.angelosports.com/coaches.aspx?rc=712&path=softball Scott stresses the importance of fundamentals, and it has paid dividends over the last 13 seasons. Under his guidance, Angelo State has averaged 48 wins per season, hoisted five NCAA Division II South Central Region trophies and made five trips to the NCAA D-II National Championships, bringing home the national title in 2004 and finishing as national runner-ups in 2017. Scott guided ASU to six LSC Conference Championships and six LSC South Division titles in the last 13 years. During his reign, Scott has coached 29 ASU All-Americans, 55 NFCA All-Region players and 76 All-Lone Star Conference honorees. In addition, 19 Rambelles have been named Academic All-LSCteam under Scott. As a five-time LSC Coach of the Year, Scott boasts a 626-209-1 record at ASU for a .748 winning percentage. Including his three seasons at Southeastern Oklahoma prior to his arrival in San Angelo, Scott has a career coaching record of 727-259-3 and a .735 winning percentage. He currently ranks 7th in NCAA D-II in winning percentage among active coaches. A native of Ardmore, Okla., Scott brought a winning tradition with him when he arrived at ASU. In his three previous seasons as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma – his alma mater – Scott claimed three LSC North Division titles and guided the Lady Savages to the South Central Regional Tournament in 2003. His teams also claimed a LSC championship in 2001 and finished as runners-up to ASU in 2003. Scott’s record at SOSUwas 101-50-2 and earned LSC North Coach of the Year in 2002. Scott’s coaching legacy took roots when he was the head baseball and softball coach at Lone Grove High School in Lone Grove, Okla. His softball teams posted a cumulative record of 165-62, including four 30-plus-win seasons, five district championships, four regional titles and two runner-up finishes in the Class 3A OSSAA State Tournament. Seven of his players garnered all-state recognition and 13 received college athletic scholarships. As a high school baseball coach from 1993-2000, Scott posted a 131-74 record and numerous district championships and regional titles. His 1997 and 1998 teams were Class 4A state semi-finalists. A skilled baseball player himself, Scott competed at Southeastern Oklahoma from 1990-92 and was the starting third baseman on the 1990 team that finished fourth at the NAIA College World Series, where he was named to the all-tournament team and was a Gold Glove recipient. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, recreation and dance and a master’s in secondary education-health/physical education from Southeastern Oklahoma. He is married to associate head coach Katie Scott and has three children, step-daughter Kenna Dawn Self and sons Mickey Ryan Scott and Gehrig Brooks Scott. Rick

  28. Major in what-ever you want to major in ..... just be aware of what the job opportunities are and the pay is after graduation... Pay is often determined by what you can do that others can't ( or won't ) .. I just have seen people who suddenly realize AFTER graduation that there are few good paying jobs for that major. Most people go to college to qualify them for employment in the future... and not just to take fun or easy classes. Just don't complain about the lack of jobs or the pay then..

  32. I can assure you from my visit to the University of Wyoming campus last week that the figure quoted is supportable. Although Laramie is a third the size of Denton it is a thousand times more supportive of its athletic programs and of the university as a whole. Their facilities including a state of the art indoor practice facility are outstanding. It is easy for UNT to stand on the outside and throw cold water on studies or proven successes of other universities' athletic programs, but just visit these campuses that you criticize, and you may understand that although we may have made great strides , we are still light years behind even our peers much less the P5.
