  1. They are most certainly celebrating today with mucho gusto down in San Antone. So in homage to our friends to the south.

  2. Unfortunately this will never happen until someone with the power to place their foot down and force the fracturing attitude and behavior to step in line with the rest of us. What do I mean by "fracturing attitude and behavior"? I'm talking about certain groups such as... the college of music and their football game day band. To the college of music....UNT and the Mean Green exists to serve them.....The University of The College of Music at North Texas. Not the other way around. Now....the band members are made up of some of our greatest fans. But their leadership and attitude?....nope. They could care less about UNT Eagles Fight! Fight! Fight! and the Spirit of the Mean Green. It doesn't exist and never will until the administration makes them.....or replaces them. Rick

  3. I just love being a North Texas fan. An article about how we may see a second straight 9 win season (you know, because that happens so much around here) devolves into an argument about where our coach will be running off to at the first chance. Jesus, I’d hate to double date with any of you. Listening to you tell me how you don’t want to take our dates to a fancy restaurant because “they’ll certainly leave us after the bill is paid to go home and hook up with a cooler guy” would just depress me too much.

  4. I had the pleasure of visiting with Manvel running back Garrison Johnson, fresh off his visit and verbal commitment to North Texas’s 2019 recruiting class. Johnson (5-11, 210) is listed as the 44th best running back in the nation per 247 Sports. A standout player at powerhouse Manvel High School, he was a 1st team 5A-11 all-district selection last season as a junior rushing for 677 yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnson played alongside 2018 UNT QB signee Kason Martin as well as many other high-profile recruits. Prior to the UNT commitment, he held offers from Virginia, Syracuse, Indiana, SMU, UTSA and South Alabama. UNT coaches coach Marty Biagi (Special Teams) and Tashard Choice (Running Backs) are his primary recruiters. Garrison Johnson Quick Hits Q: What led you to your North Texas commitment? A: "The relationship I have with Coach Choice. We talk on a daily basis. I hit up Coach Littrell a lot too. And it’s not always about football, we talk about life. Also, my Quarterback from this past year at Manvel Kason Martin is there and he has told me how much he likes it." Q: How was your visit to New Denton this last weekend? A: “I loved it. I got to spend time with Kason, some of the running backs and the coaching staff. They went out of their way to make me feel at home and spent a lot of time with me.” Q: Is playing close to home important? A: “Playing close to home and being around family has always been a goal of mine.” Q: Thoughts on New Denton? A: “The past two years Coach Littrell has been there is huge. To come in and take the team to bowl games in back to back years really stood out to me. I know when I get there it will only continue. Going to bowl games and winning bowl games, even going undefeated. Just like how Scott Frost turned around UCF, I think Coach Littrell can do the same at UNT. It is a great place.” Q: Thoughts on playing for Coach Choice? A: “Coach Choice knows how to get to the next level and is a great coach and mentor. His coaching style and just who he is as a person definitely stood out to me.” Q: Have you started recruiting for #F19HTCLUB yet? A: “For sure, I have been doing my homework on kids and seeing who would fit in well at North Texas.” 247 Page: https://247sports.com/Player/Garrison-Johnson-46036011 Hudl Page :https://www.hudl.com/profile/6005674/Garrison-Johnson

  6. You forgot scenario #3: Seth Littrell's tenure at UNT exceeds that of Paterno @PSU & Bowden @FSU tenures combined because he loves living in Denton, all the while taking UNT to multiple national championships!!!!!1!1!

  11. Well said, and I might add that if you have to take the field in shorts and tees until mid October just stay in the stands. Looks like a Jr. High or worse.

  12. I want to add that the throw on the third play(?) of the drive that ended up caught out of bounds is a ridiculous throw. Moving left and throwing it thirty yards downfield where only his guy can get it. Out of bounds and forgotten to history but that's a sick pass.

  13. He is not someone to blow off a good idea, and posting things here isn’t going to help anyone here or in the AD office (not a trying to be rude, but just honest since we all have posted solid ideas including me but nothing happens because it’s posted here).. if we want to see real actual change in how things are done we need to voice them to the correct people directly. A good example was people got pissed the band wore shorts and t-shirts.. then multiple people complained directly to the band officials.. boom it changed.. I hope people see other ideas, such as yours and email in.. yes 1 email won’t do much but multiple will.. also that 1 email, could give WB an idea for them to expand it but at worst it likely gets you a reply directly from WB.

  14. UNT is going where the growth and money is. This campus will have the same effect on UNT Denton that UNT Dallas, UNT Dallas Law School, and UNT Health Center in Ft Worth does, which is nothing.I am just surprised that University of Texas at Dallas didn't beat us to it.

  16. I think it's a good deal. My guess is most degrees will be graduate degrees geared toward one of the hottest young (and old) professional communities in the world. The current UNT campus had exceeded early projections. UNT is basically getting free prime real estate in exchange for committing to build out a campus. Here's the other reality, if UNT didn't do it a competitor would have. I would have been so pissed if I read UT-Arlington was doing this. I'll bet they felt the same when they read what we are doing. Managing limiting resources to invest in both Denton and Frisco won't be easy, but I trust Smatresk to figure it out.

  18. Kelly Kraft and Colt Knost both heavily considered UNT and were playing TJGT their junior and senior years. Snyman is a nice player but didn't come close to having the college career that either of those guys had. He has a LONG way to go to even come close to having the professional career that either of those guys have had. Stracke in the decade he's been here not recruited one local kid out of high school that made a difference.

  19. Any thought to the way Tech treated Leach may have put a sour taste in Litrell's mouth? Just because he coached out there once upon a time does not mean that he enjoyed the time out there, still longs to be out there again, or any of the such. he may very well want to go back out there, but Lubbock is not his home. Oklahoma is.

  20. Like you, I can truthfully say I witnessed all three. What a great player Booger was and two series the likes of which I don't think we'll see again in our lifetimes. I'm looking forward to what excitement this coming season might bring us.

  21. In my lifetime, Mean Green has provided 1) Brandon Booger Kennedy, a player on a level in college I will probably never see again. 2) The Stand. A defensive series I will likely never see matched 3) The Drive. An offensive series I will likely never see matched. ...what's next?

  27. In partnership with Athletics. I understand what some are saying about the small fee. But, it does help with headcount and preparations. While small, most that RSVP and pay it will actually show up. In the past when there was no fee...lots RSVP’d (like Facebook RSVP’s...ever tried that?), but many failed to show. Maybe they are going with the theory that if things are free, people see no value in them. Don’t know, don’t care. The $5 should not be a significant deterrent to anyone who truly wants to attend. And, as been previously stated...it is how many of the “big time” folks do it these days. Being or moving toward being “big time” costs money...right?

  28. There are a lot of people living in Frisco and the surrounding areas with more growth coming. A lot of those people are working people who would like to go back to school for one reason or another, but simply don't want to drive to Denton to attend classes. Lots of reasons for that, but they aren't doing it. Building this campus puts the University right in their back yard, so they are now able to attend classes they previously would not have.

  29. No, the WHOLE school, not just game day. Maybe one day North Texas will be able to produce a youtube video celebrating it's multi-generational connectedness like this....... instead of our usual multi-generational disconnectedness. I'm still shaking my head over that statement/question that an alumni asked someone who posts on the board........"are we still in the MVC? And that is why our football (and other sports) game day always looks the way it does...........compartmentalized and unconnected. The MVC question pretty much says it all.

  34. There are maybe 10 hc's in all of Division 1 that would not leave for a job with substantially more money and prestige. I find this endless speculation of Littrell's next job tedious at best. If NT has a great record next year, Littrell will be offered other good opportunities. If NT has a bad season, there will be little demand for his services. Of the two scenarios above, which would you prefer?

  42. My only problem with this survey is that it basically just reflects the opinions of us die-hard season ticket holders. We have somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 at most home games. I don't feel like our 750+ opinions truly reflect what most people that come to the games think. We really need to know what those other 19,250 people think, so we can figure out how to make them season ticket holders too. Personally, I think Baker should hand out surveys at the gates when people walk in at the SMU game. If each survey had a unique bar code, each ticket scanned should be able to be assigned to a ticket. There should be incentives for turning in the surveys too... field access for a future game, team autographed football/helmet, free food from the concessions, carry the Battle Flag onto the field at the introduction of a future game. Stuff like that. Winners could be announced during TV timeouts and halftime, using a field level camera and a roaming reporter. It would create a much more interactive fan experience, and our AD would have more relevant data to sift through.

  44. My thoughts are mixed, I guess. My initial reaction is that it is good to deliver services in a more convenient location for some consumers. On the other hand, I would think it necessary to deliver certain core courses to fashion a quality program and thereby duplicating efforts or forcing some faculty to "road trip". I get that we can customize a few courses to accommodate the needs of the specific businesses in that area or create a new program or two. Does that mean that Denton resident students have to "road trip" to Frisco if they find those courses valuable to their particular needs? I fear the potential for "mission creep" here, duplication of efforts, and costs that could get out of control. So I like that we're expanding our regional presence but I don't want it to cannibalize the mothership. Just my two cents.

  45. I intend to go to the Denton Caravan. The $5. fee frosts me a little. It's too little to get excited about. It's too much considering this is the fee that the Mean Green Scholarship Association members have already paid. I wish there were more gap between MGSA members and non-members. Something that would make MGSA membership more worthwhile. Maybe better parking for MGSA members the day of the event. But I'll be there. Right behind those that don't join the MGSA. GO MEAN GREEN

  46. I don't know if he will leave this year and I don't know if Tech will be the destination when he does leave. But what I do know is that he is not in this thing for the long haul. He's counting his chips...well not really. He's out the door with an FBS P5 HC offer from any and all. And if he's not offered, damnit he's going to apply. We are whipping boys in his eyes that just happen to be the people currently cutting his check. I mean think about it...He played at OU and then coached at Tech, Indy, Arizona, and North Carolina. When teams like us inevitably showed up on the schedule, it wss time to boost those offensive stats and win going away. Now, he fell into what he surely used to view as one of these very holes, player and coach, and he's apparently looking for an exit strategy. I will root for the dubs and chastise harder during the L's for this very reason. Loyalty is 2-way. But it's a financial business and he's gotta get it while he can. That doesn't mean my viewpoint changes due to that. To the point, I would be pleased with 9-3. So as long as the cumulative score of those 3 doesn't end up being 1,478,412 to 60.
