  1. Y'all didn't see this rendering of Apogee on a beach, along with a mountain/lake/rainforest/desert landscape? There were big plans for that old golf course, but, of course, RV'd.

  2. While I'm not a fan of Incarnate Word or Liberty (Let's just leave that at an opinion and stop with the nonsensical religious debates), I see no reason to be booking world beaters in OOC unless we're vying for a NY6 bowl game. Conference championships should be our goal at present.

  4. There's no doubt that Greene, Haynes and Mitchell are worthy because all three are in the Texas Hall of Fame. My choice for the fourth would be Ray Renfro. I was lucky enough to see him play most of his career at North Texas and I've got to say he was faster than anyone else on the field. But he wasn't just fast; he was a very good runner and receiver. In fact, as I recall he was All-Pro several times when he was with the Cleveland Browns. The fact that his number has been retired speaks volumes to his worthiness.

  7. I don't know about our "Mount Rushmore" , but I do have a suggestion for the stadium and a question. My suggestion is that the Randy Galloway article published back in 1967.....https://orgsync.com/8405/custom_pages/664 be reproduced (twice) on a metal plate like you see in state/national parks and one be mounted at the east entrance area where the most foot traffic goes by it, and the other one mounted on the home side. That way everyone entering the stadium will have a chance to read an important part of our history. And more importantly, the real story of how we came to be known as the "Mean Green" can be consistently told. I suggest this because, so far, our University has done a piss poor job of consistently conveying this story. And this leads to a question. How many of the original Mean Green defense, as portrayed in the 1967 Randy Galloway article (besides Joe Greene) have been voted into the HOF? If the answer is none, then I suggest that a special enshrining into the HOF should take place for all of these players that worked their collective asses off in anonymity to give our athletic program it's VERY UNIQUE nickname. And while I'm at it. How about voting Sydney Graham into the HOF for coming up with the nickname in the first place?

  8. Good article. Byron Gross was a great NT player but not close to the top 4. If I had to pick 4 to be on the mountain: Coach Mitchell, Abner Haynes, Joe Greene, Steve Ramsey. Both Coach Mitchell and Haynes were pivotal figures in civil rights as well as in athletics. Greene would be on any school's Rushmore. Ramsey held numerous national records. Booger Kennedy would replace Mitchell if it was players only. I find Kennedy's two conference mvp awards incredible for a defensive lineman. Fine may force someone off the mountain after he concludes his career.

  9. We have to go to all the way to Florida A & M to hire a replacement Dean of the UNT Dallas Law School? No other Asst Law School Deans from so many great universities in the State of Texas were approached or applied for the job?

  10. FAU Sept. 1 at Oklahoma; Sept. 8 vs. Air Force; Sept. 15 vs. Bethune-Cookman; Sept. 21 at UCF Lane Kiffin led the Owls to their first Conference USA championship last season but duplicating that feat could be difficult especially with a treacherous nonconference schedule that features road games against a pair of conference champions in Oklahoma and UCF. The good news is FAU went 1-3 in nonconference in 2017 and still managed an 11-win season. Middle Tennessee Sept. 1 at Vanderbilt; Sept 8 vs. UT Martin; Sept. 15 at Georgia; Nov. 17 at Kentucky The Blue Raiders open up the season on the road for the first time since 2011 as the team travels to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt. Middle Tennessee has split the series (3-3) but all three wins have come on the road. MTSU has lost 12 out of its last 13 meetings with teams from the SEC with the last win coming in 2016. The program is a combined 0-3 all-time against Georgia and Kentucky. UTSA Sept. 1 at Arizona State; Sept. 8 vs. Baylor; Sept. 15 at Kansas State; Sept. 22 vs. Texas State UTSA is one of just two CUSA schools to play three teams from Power 5 conferences this season (Middle Tennessee). The Roadrunners won three games out of conference in a single season for the first time since fully joining CUSA in 2013 including the program’s first win over a P5 school in Baylor. North Texas Sept. 1 vs. SMU; Sept. 8 vs. Incarnate Word; Sept. 15 at Arkansas; Sept. 22 at Liberty North Texas put together just it’s second winning season since 2005 when the Mean Green won nine games in 2017. The good news for Seth Littrell’s program is they’ll face one of the easiest schedules in the conference with an FCS foe (Incarnate Word) and a program transitioning into the Football Bowl Subdivision (Liberty). http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/co...story.html

  11. It's about 5 to 7 feet in most places in the city. Norfolk is surrounded by water, primarily the Chesapeake Bay and the Elizabeth River so combine the low elevation with the rising water and we have a big problem on our hands. Returning to the proposed stadium, another problem faced by ODU is the high density of the city. There is nowhere to go unless you exercise Eminent Domain and you can only imagine how popular that can be. Basically, they are stuck with the existing stadium and can only improve upon that.

  12. A Norfolk native here. Yes, the flooding of Norfolk is a very real problem for not only ODU but for the entire city. Just google "Norfolk Floods" and you will see what I mean. I am fortunate to own three beach front properties and worry how long it will be before the bay closes in.

  14. I agree with Rick. Our daughter is friends with Byron Gross and he looks like he could run a few wind sprints and be ready to play again. He is a good man who still represents North Texas really well wherever he goes.

  22. Appears not everyone is on board with the price tag. He makes some good points, but lost me when he stated that, outside of the Alamodome, FAU's erector set was the nicest facility in CUSA and one of the nicest G5 stadiums. https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/football/article_562dd6ef-d913-52f3-9d5f-e963ec34c3c3.html I am an admitted UNT homer, but when you state that FAU's $70 million stadium is nicer than Apogee, well you should just be quiet.

  23. Based on the global warming propaganda show I saw on "Nova" a couple of nights ago, a big part of this stadium renovation should have included raising the campus elevation. They showed an ODU campus sign and lots of shots from Norfolk to illustrate rising sea levels and the coming disaster.

  24. Beto O’Rourke to make campaign stop at UNT today.....on campus! A Democratic nominee for the US Senate making a pointed and official “campaign speech” ON CAMPUS property. Oh, the outrage!!!!! Where are the professors starting petitions, calling for the event to be cancelled, calling it outrageous???? Where are all the Daily editorials opposing it???? Anyone else see a big reason why not? Ha! I have absolutely ZERO problem using UNT resources for this event....NONE. Just like I had ZERO problem with the son of the president making a non-campaign speech raising scholarship funds at an OFF-Campus facility. But, even though, different in scope and sponsorship and purpose, the “quietness” of folks on campus surrounding this obvious pointed political appearance is more than a little ironic. Oh...and really humorous as well. One wonders just how much in campaign dollars O’Rourke will raise for himself and his personal campaign related to this event vs how many scholarship dollars were raised by the off-campus event? Oh the outrage...UNT will never recover because someone made a speech!!!!! What has happened to our beloved University! Oh, the outrage and humiliation. We shouldn’t ever have considered playing a football game at Beto U either.....oh, wrong outrage. Just having some fun this morning....you folks carry on! 😂😂😂

  26. I love real estate developers... If you ever see a conceptual drawing of any commerical (or in this case sports) development and see beautiful green fields just assume it's actually big beautiful parking fields. That whole area behind the stands that say FAU and the endzone stands to the left of the press box tower in the pic is parking lots and 2/3 story cheap ugly architecture college buildings. There's quite a bit a development between the stadium and the water... like miles of other stuff. Its like saying SMU's stadium is built on the shores of White Rock Lake.

  27. That's rich -- considering the GOP's track record with alcohol, 'deviant' sex and drugs. It isn't a crime moral turpitude. I think the left is more likely to forgive indiscretions from youth. Once you pay your price to the country for the mistake, isn't that enough?

  28. So they're moving out of large, separate offices into cramped joined spaces? Who approved that to begin with?

  29. Yeah, people were real upset about that because 30k made us look "small time" without acknowledging that Apogee is built to be expanded to 50k if ever needed.

  35. I can't see why Lance would be eliminated if Pat is considered. Lance is the all-time leading rusher in school history. The rest, even Lance's spot in a Mt. Rushmore, I agree with you. Gross only hurt because his days were in 1AA, not "big boy football". So I'd have to argue him with Craig Robertson (only 5 less tackles over his career), even though Craig is hurt by playing on some atrocious teams. Ray Renfro is certainly qualified. Ramsey as well... feels weird not having a QB on your Mt. Rushmore, so I'd probably lean with him... for now. His school records are in some SERIOUS JEOPARDY right now.

  36. Lane called plays last year, and will again this year. He brought Briles in solely to learn the tempo side of the Baylor offense along with some passing game schemes. He had run game side of it covered and you saw that in plenty of their games, that wasn't the Baylor run game schemes FAU ran. An excellent collaboration between two very good offensive coaches (literally and figuratively).

  41. I think that if you went school by school in CUSA and looked at their average home attendance you would find that a 20,000 to 25,000 seat stadium is probably appropriate. In fact, based upon recent crowds, both UNT and SMU might have overbuilt.
    1 point
  42. Since they have won so many CUSA championships, I can see why the AAC or even the SEC would want them. UTEP will probably be next because they won a national championship in 1966.

  44. I'd add in UAB here, too. I think their recruiting has been absolutely great and their head coach is a winner. They will be really tough to beat, since we play them in Birmingham this season.
